Out of the night that covers me

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance,

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate

I am the captain of my soul.

"Invictus" is a short poem by the Victorian era British poet William Ernest Henley (1849–1903). Henley wrote it in 1875, and in 1888 he published it in his first volume of poems, Book of Verses, in the section titled "Life and Death (Echoes)".

usually, i'm not a quote-girl. but this one is so very special to me that i decided to post it.

i'm going to my hometown for the next couple of days to get started with the research for my bachelor-thesis. the first part takes place at my old school; i still have to figure out a way how to convince the recalcitrant teenagers to participate... my only weapon is candy. any advice?

i'll be back at the end of next week (if the trains are riding; we're going to have tons of snow, like 40cm only on saturday!)

have a great weekend everyone!

Trooping the Colour also known as The Queen's Birthday Parade, is traditional display of pomp and pageantry originating from preparations of battle.

Colours, or flags, were carried or "trooped" down the rank so that it could be seen and recognised by the soldiers. This year the Colour being trooped belonged to 7 Company Coldstream Guards.

More than 1,600 soldiers and 300 horses took part in the parade to celebrate The Queen's 90th Birthday.
