Rosa contemplates quietly as the sun sets ... I find she is always a little more introspective when she is at 'home.'

This was very difficult light ... what little of it that was left created a challenge for the camera but it performed very well under the circumstances. A bit of post-processing helped too (no doubt someone more proficient could have done better with the RAW file) and Rosa and I agree that this is quite close to the reality of the scene we enjoyed that evening. I wish only that you could also feel the fresh and invigorating westerly winds in our faces to truly appreciate the place that evening as we did. Thank you cousin António for rushing us to the coast in time to catch the sunset ... cousin Elsa was busy at home preparing for a trip to Angola and also preparing yet another delicious meal for us!

each monday, my class pins up their projects corresponding to the weekly theme and then we critique. professor jean-paul bourdier starts us off with some words and then we launch into the critique.

when i read the description (scroll down to about the middle, see 'vis std 186b') i thought, 'ah! c'est parfait pour moi! c'est exactement où je suis maintenent. trop parfait.' and, as i am finding more and more, i was right. this class, along with the rest of them, is teaching me so much about the world and also about myself simultaneously, which i am realizing is simply the beauty of our existence; as we are able to search introspectively, we become more able to project these realizations and comprehend the world outside of ourselves. i am becoming more whole with every experience i am having. the more, the more. and i am delighted at the things i am discovering.

on a more technical note, i am learning through this particular class that the narrative behind the image is not relevant. as jean-paul says, 'forget about the author.' that being said, i will not try to relate what my thoughts were in the process of this image. i will allow it to speak to you for itself. and for this purpose also, i will title them with the name of the assignment, rather than my interpretation.

Pandemic Places -- Where People Used to Be

Most people throughout the world have been trying to create their own "new normal" in order to find a way to get through the Coronavirus pandemic. For me, documenting the impacts of the pandemic with my camera, riding my bicycle, and listening to music have helped me stay grounded and maintain a positive attitude. All of these things came together in a bit of serendipity last September. I spotted this bicyclist, listening to music, sitting along a pandemic-deserted Mass Avenue, and as I looked through the viewfinder in my camera, I noticed the plaque in front of me with the word "VIEWFINDERS". This serendipitous moment in the midst of a pandemic made me pause and be thankful for what I have. It's easy to focus on what the pandemic has taken away, but it's important to realize what the pandemic has given us. It's given us a chance to slow down and take an introspective look at who we are. To summon strength from where we may have thought we had no strength. To cement our friendships. To be thankful for things we likely took for granted. To understand that situations we can't control are fully under control and not overlooked by God. To live one moment at a time. To realize one moment at a time is all we are promised. And to love like there is no tomorrow.

ARTIST STATEMENT

ELOY JIMENEZ “El Mixteco”

“When an art historian was preparing a lecture for a symposium on art and sexuality, he asked his friend Picasso where he drew the line between these two concepts. The painter replied: They the same thing, because art can only be erotic.” (Widmaier 2005)

In my sensitivity art is only erotic.

In the Mixtec region of Oaxaca, where I am from, where my roots begin, the culture is flooded with ideologies related to sex.

I am deeply influenced by my culture and my country. The codex (ancient Pre Columbian pictographs) contain representations of sexuality, none of which are considered immoral, to them it is part of life. Their Gods, their history, were all represented in this aspect.

Sexuality is, part of self not exclusive to a group or a certain culture.

In addition to my culture, I am also influenced by many important artists. Schield, Klimt, Picasso, Kokoschka and Toledo all work with erotic imagery. My attention was based primarily how they conveyed eroticism and sexuality. Each artist represented their own erotic style based on the premise of love, passion, emotion, sensuality and sexuality. In some cases they walked a thin line between eroticism and pornography.

I perceive that eroticism goes beyond the normal standards of love, passion, sex, and emotions. I discern that art is intertwined with pornography, and eroticism, and that they are inherent to each other. If one threatens to separate these concepts it will only justify societies judgments on what is moral and what is immoral.

My art work is more than a simple thematic representation; it is a procedure, a contemplative introspective arrangement. I was able to produce textural aspects that are not typically found with other traditional painting techniques on paper. I utilize the ancient Mixtec use of grana Cochinilla (ground Coachanil bug) in a new way.

I focused on two notions: the concept of diverse human sexuality and the concept of animal sexuality. Both have the same objective: to preserve the species. Only the humans have the ability to understand and recognize the sexual act as a pleasure.

My style is individual and distinctive; I call myself as an erotic artist. I focus on primitive conceptions in a contemporary society. For some pornography or eroticism is an attack on moral values, however, the erotic exist, unbeknownst to most, in the everyday.

“I sit beside the fire and think

Of all that I have seen

Of meadow flowers and butterflies

In summers that have been

Of yellow leaves and gossamer

In autumns that there were

With morning mist and silver sun

And wind upon my hair

I sit beside the fire and think

Of how the world will be

When winter comes without a spring

That I shall ever see

For still there are so many things

That I have never seen

In every wood in every spring

There is a different green

I sit beside the fire and think

Of people long ago

And people that will see a world

That I shall never know."

~J.R.R. Tolkien

a rainy thought trapped in motion. he walks past a window, unaware that his world has already started to melt. the raindrops aren’t falling from the sky — they’re falling from within.

hannover central station, a nexus where countless stories intersect. through a kaleidoscope of reflections, life unfolds in layers. a moment, fleeting yet full, as strangers share a platform, each absorbed in their own world. the cold bite of the morning air contrasts with the warmth that lingers behind the glass. colors blur, a vivid streak across the canvas of daily commute. here, a figure stands out, cloaked in contemplation, their gaze fixed on a destination unseen. another, a silhouette against the morning rush, finds solace in the sanctuary of her thoughts. this image, a snapshot of transient solitude amidst the communal rhythm of travel, captures the quiet intimacy of public spaces, where every passerby is a story, every reflection a window into another life.

No deep thoughts, no introspective musings. Just me and my imagination today. Hope you enjoy.

To exceed the ordinary, the artist knows, is both a blessing and a curse. Each touch, each word, each act of creation becomes a paradox: an offering to eternity but rooted in the fleeting frailty of the present. What if they fail? What if the light within, so achingly bright, burns them to ash rather than illuminating their path?

ALIENATED by Adwehe, the December 2024 exhibition @ Nitroglobus main hall.

Adwehe returns to the gallery with an introspective collection that explores feelings of estrangement in the face of a rapidly shifting world. Drawing inspiration from the global socio-political landscape, Adwehe’s work reflects on themes such as the upheaval in Western political movements, the persistence of global conflicts, and the dramatic evolution of societal norms. Her art serves as a poignant response to these sweeping changes, offering a personal view into the alienation and disconnection many of us feel in these turbulent times.

Visitors can expect a vibrant and heartfelt presentation that not only showcases Adwehe's multi talent but also sparks meaningful reflection on the state of the world today.

See you @ the gallery

Description of the artist:

In this exhibition, I attempt to touch on some of the darker sides of what technology has brought us in recent decades. Even with all the benefits it brings, social media and AI continue to cast an ever-growing darker shadow over society and the world, leading to division, destabilization, exploitation, and alienation.

The title of the exhibition also reflects my own feelings of alienation from the creation of more images, in the context of the unimaginable amounts of images produced every day. I embarked on a journey using only SL and the EEP sky options in the viewer to slowly delve into these feelings of alienation, drifting through the stories of our time.

Nuance and greyscale are not popular these days, its all black and white, a one second attention span, no thinking needed, all subtlety and depth erased.

I just want to be reborn, again and again, in beautiful vibrant colors.

Grayscales... translated into vibrant color.

Playing the guitar has been my hobby since I was in high school. I had a band, we played some terrible covers and some decent songs written by ourselves. Music has been with me all my life.

Shoegazing (or shoegaze, initially known as "dream pop") is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock that emerged in the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. It is characterised by its ethereal-sounding mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume. The term "shoegazing" was coined by the British music press to ridicule the stage presence of a wave of neo-psychedelic groups who stood still during live performances in a detached, introspective, non-confrontational state with their heads down. This was because the heavy use of effects pedals meant the performers were often looking down at the readouts on their effects pedals during concerts. (from Wikipedia)

Willem Vermandere is a famous Belgian Artist.

We always enjoy a get together when we visit the Continent, this time no different!

Well, he had just acquired another new instrument, an Autoharp, which he cradled with tremendous affection whilst his hands caressed the strings and he was clearly in his own musical world... forgetting for a brief moment that we were there?

Such moments are pure magic.

Ongoing exploration of work as I develop a potential series "Introspective Illumination". This project is a deeply personal exploration of mindfulness and self-reflection. It is set against the relentless pace of our hyperconnected society with its incessant urgency and the pervasive challenge of accomplishing more in less time. The project seeks to juxtapose the relentless pursuit for efficiency and productivity with the inherent human need for rest and contemplation.

Know your Exits

Emerging from the dim light of the underpass, where the city's heartbeat pulses faintly against the cold concrete, everyone seems lost in their thoughts. What paths lay ahead of you? This direction is not just a way out of my place of shadows and echoes but a chance to make an existential choice. Exits in my urban chasm are not merely roads and streets; they are the decisions that define me, the moments of truth where my very being is distilled into action.

As I ponder existence and essence, I question whether freedom of choice is the most authentic expression. My choice carves a path that leads me back to the same variant of existence, and I never seem to leave. What are the invisible threads that connect my choices to a predetermined destiny?

I take a step forward with a deep breath, embracing the uncertainty that ensures my return. Lost in the labyrinthine streets, shadowed alleys, and false exits, I promise myself liberation and self-discovery as I take the next step that could redefine me.

Berlin, Gardens of the World, Chinese 'Dule Yuan' Garden Cabinet: Light and shadows on the ground of the hut

www.gaertenderwelt.de/gaerten-architektur/internationale-...

"The preoccupation of humans with themselves hasn’t only been in fashion since the advent of yoga studios and meditation apps. Introspective and independent ways of thinking were, for example, already a central element of the way of life of Chinese scholars. Sima Guang, politician, historian and scholar of the Chinese Song dynasty, created a garden in the 11th century that was said to be particularly beneficial to this lifestyle: the Dule Yuan, translated as "Garden of Secluded Pleasure". In an essay he described the structure and landscape highlights of the garden. Since then, the Dule Yuan has maintained a pre-eminent position in Chinese horticultural history. The design of the garden is based on a painting by Dule Yuan from the 16th century. Its geometric axis structure is composed of a bamboo path, a rectangular plaza and a water channel. The garden's eye-catching and popular photo spot is the modern designed steel bamboo hut painted in gold, which blends in harmoniously with the gentle geometry of the surrounding garden landscape. The surrounding mirror surfaces create a vertical depth that blurs the boundary between man and nature. In the spirit of the Dule Yuan, the mirror surfaces are also intersections between reality and imagination, between seeing and being seen. This fluid awareness of space is what makes up the spiritual essence of Chinese gardens."

A little alone time can go a long way.

It is early autumn in the southern hemisphere.

I see flowers and leaves on the floor.

Hibiscus dawns closed.

I wake up closed, at home

I'm introspective and reflective

I breathe and I take inspiration...

Contemplate hibiscus, butterflies and

Some birds from my little garden.

Smile and play with my dogs

before the rain arrives

Until the coronavirus pandemic passes

It's time for recollection ...

Time to be quiet...

the last light of the week cuts sharply through the city, carving out silence where noise has been. christopher, the bookseller, sits in its path, framed by the weight of his own stories. smoke curls into the cold air, dissolving like unfinished sentences. his wristwatch catches the light—a quiet reminder that time moves even when he does not. in his hands, a book, pages worn, read by others before him, waiting for those who come after. the moment feels borrowed, as if palma itself paused for just a breath.

"You must write every single day of your life… You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads… May you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world." - Ray Bradbury
