Ongoing exploration of work as I develop a potential series "Introspective Illumination". This project is a deeply personal exploration of mindfulness and self-reflection. It is set against the relentless pace of our hyperconnected society with its incessant urgency and the pervasive challenge of accomplishing more in less time. The project seeks to juxtapose the relentless pursuit for efficiency and productivity with the inherent human need for rest and contemplation.

Trying to see, part of my Introspective Illumination series

“Introspective” began with the idea to photographically document the arctic and sub-arctic regions of six different countries using some of the last remaining Kodak Aerochrome infrared film in existence. Due to political and economic pressures for development that are beginning to overrule environmental preservation, not to mention the effects of a warming climate, the Arctic, as we know it today, will soon be unrecognizable. My journey of roughly three months took many unexpected turns, including living for a week in rural villages of Kenya and watching a father and son gut a seal in Greenland. Yet, the more zig-zagging around the world I did, the more it seemed everything was connected. “Introspective” became a personal Odyssey, one of searching for inner clarity by seeing and photographing the marvels of the natural world.

This work is about Hong Kong and essentially an introspective examination of a phenomenon that I experienced during my stay in the vertical alpha city. By capturing urban and suburban places, I tried to explore the intriguing shifts in my spatial perception.

I will upload a small selection of photographs from the series here on Flickr.

As for the complete series, I was able to publish it as a limited edition photo book.

If you are interested, you can buy it here for 20,- €: www.buchhaltung-verlag.de/invisiblehorizons.html

Been a while since I've done one of these!!

Things are really busy at the moment which is great, but leaves little time for those nice little introspective moments we all need from time to time. I'm heading to London next week to teach a wedding workshop, and have a flourry of weddings to follow late august/early sept. To be totally honest I'd rather go out and dance my socks off this moment in time than sit at my computer and look longingly at the lovely weather HOWEVER this does not pay the bills!!!! :)

Maybe tomorrow night...

You may read a story “Deep in the Wilds of Fiordland” about my multi-day expedition to the shores of that lake.

“Deep in the Wilds of Fiordland” is an immersive nature memoir that follows a solo journey through the untouched wilderness of New Zealand’s Fiordland. Inspired by the introspective spirit of Thoreau, Muir, and Dillard, this poetic narrative explores themes of solitude, self-discovery, and connection to nature’s raw beauty, reflecting the timeless ideas of transcendentalism. From traversing dense rainforests to contemplating life by pristine lakes, this story invites readers to experience the serenity and transformative power of true wilderness adventure.

I've been more introspective with photography here of late. Not so worried about perfect exposures, but capturing the mood I've been feeling.

Deep in the Pyrenees, I found myself surrounded by this ethereal dance between earth and sky. The mist moved like a living entity, weaving through valleys and caressing the forested slopes with an almost mystical presence. There's something profoundly moving about these moments when mountains disappear and reappear through veils of vapor.

My intention was to capture the soul of these ancient peaks - not their imposing granite faces, but their quieter, more introspective side. The soft, muted palette reflects the contemplative mood that overtakes you in such places, where time seems suspended and nature speaks in whispers rather than roars.

This image represents what draws me to mountain photography: those fleeting moments when weather and light conspire to reveal landscapes in their most vulnerable, poetic state. The Pyrenees, with their ever-changing moods, offer these gifts to patient observers. Sometimes the most powerful mountain images aren't about dramatic summits, but about the gentle mysteries that unfold in the valleys below.

In this black and white portrait, a barefoot Kayja sits on a chair, cradling a twelve-string acoustic guitar. The interplay of light and shadow wraps her in mystery, echoing the quiet strength and soul of a solitary musician.

One light chiaroscuro style.

I don't often shoot birds from this point of view. But this snowy egret seemed introspective so I liked it.

But of all these friends and lovers

There is no one compares with you

And these memories lose their meaning

When I think of love as something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection

For people and things that went before

I know I'll often stop and think about them

In my life I love you more

Be blown away and BEE dazzled by seeing our BEE in ORIGINAL Sin (1233 x 1179)

there’s a stillness in his expression, as though he’s carrying the burden of time. the man sits in contemplation, earphones hanging loosely, as if the world around him is playing a distant soundtrack to his thoughts. his hand resting on the bottle suggests both patience and weariness, a moment paused in quiet resignation. the subtle texture of his skin and the soft fabric of his shirt add to the humanity in this scene. shadows blend into the soft blur of the background, making it feel as though he's waiting for something unseen, perhaps beyond the frame—lost in the quiet intervals of life, where thoughts can weigh heavier than anything physical.

The cloister of the Clarisses is known for the unique addition of majolica tiles, added in 1742 by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro in Rococò style. The brash color floral decoration makes this cloister, with octagonal columns in pergola-like structure, likely unique and would seem to clash with the introspective world of cloistered nuns. The cloister arcades are also decorated by frescoes, now much degraded.

On the wind-swept coast where the ocean whispered secrets to the rocky shore, lived a Macaw named Solano—feathers ablaze with scarlet, sapphire, and green. He was unlike any other bird in the rainforest, not only for his vivid plumage but for his singular devotion to the ocean’s twilight hour.

Each evening, as the sky began to blush and the waves turned to molten silver, Solano would glide from the tallest ceiba tree and follow the breeze to his favorite driftwood perch. There, he would wait—not to hunt or call—but to witness the world soften. The sun, as if knowing it had an audience, dipped slowly into the sea, unfurling a banner of colors that rivaled even Solano’s own radiant wings.

Locals believed he was a spirit—some ancient soul returned to savor beauty in its purest form. Others said he was waiting for someone who once watched sunsets beside him. Solano never told. He simply watched, still as stone, until the last ember of gold vanished beneath the tide.

Man (me): "What do you want, Kimmy, after being on SL for this long?"

Woman (me): It appears to me that SL offers a lot of things: the opportunities to create, to interact with people we can't reach with our hands; it's a place where we can be creative, we can break rules, redefine roles...I thought we could change the world.

Man (me): It does sound like that. Aren't you happy with that?

Woman (me): When people think that SL is a simpler version of RL, SL is just another kind of complication. When we are enjoying the creativity or new ways to approach things, we come cross other issues, e.g. being too provocative that people can't accept it. e.g. caring too much. We are used to complication. SL is just another kind of complication. It's not simpler.

Man (me) wipes away her tears.

Woman (me): Whether SL is seen as a game or interaction platform, it's part of our RL. We can't entirely live our lives ignoring RL rules, and etiquettes, nor the heart of the other user we are intereacting with.

Me (me) pulls her closer.

Woman (me): And our heart does not function like our brain. It can't tell what is rl , what is sl. Feelings are feelings. They are developed even when we are interacting in a virtual world. The loving feeling feels real, the hurting feeling isn't fake either.

Man (me): And, word is king. They affect our brain directly, without walls. For people who type well, they have the advantage to influence our emotions. There are no ways you can tell how sincere the person is. You can only trust blindly, sometimes.

Woman (me) cries.

Man (me): Are you hurt, Kimmy?

Woman (me): There were moments, I felt loved. I felt hurt. And, I might have hurt others too.

Man (me) wipes away her tears and says gently, "What do you want, Kimmy, after being on SL for this long?"

Woman (me): I want a break.
