Lorenzo Lotto (Venice, 1480 - Loreto, 1556/1557) -Portrait of a gentleman (1543-45) (1543-44) - Oil on canvas 115 x 95 cm - Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan

This portrait’s kinship with other portraits that Lotto painted while in Treviso (for instance his equally austere, sober Gentleman with Gloves) has prompted scholars to date it c. 1545. But if the sitter is indeed Giovanni Taurini da Montepulciano, the viceregent of Ancona, then the date is more likely to be 1541, when Lotto returned to the Marche. The man is shown standing, a formula introduced by Titian for portraits of the aristocracy, but he also wears the introspective expression typical of Lotto’s work.

The Große Fuge is a single-movement composition for string quartet by Ludwig van Beethoven famous for its extreme technical demands on the players as well as for its unrelentingly introspective nature.

"The Große Fuge is as incomprehensible as Chinese", wrote a critic of the first performance of the work.

Their journey, they saw, had never been about wealth or dominion. These were illusions, skins shed in the tide of existence. What endured was the more profound call, the pursuit of meaning that only life's raw, unadorned connections could offer. Success was transient. Their connection was eternal.

Another great cloud day here in Los Angeles.

This area was total sketchville. Way off the road. Lots of homeless and trash and I had a fare amount of gear. Still, had a blast.

In mid October there was a heavy misty, white fog that settled all over the quiet streets of Brampton. I headed out as soon as the sun came up.ready for an adventure! the nearby fields were thick with the white mist and the low lying areas were completely socked in. As i made my way through the neighbourhood I began taking pictures of what i saw. this shot of a nearby field shrouded in fog; Karen introspectively staring out into the fog... wondering what the future holds for all of us.

We wish you and yours a happy new year and pray a rich blessing upon your lives.

Ongoing exploration of work as I develop a potential series "Introspective Illumination". This project is a deeply personal exploration of mindfulness and self-reflection. It is set against the relentless pace of our hyperconnected society with its incessant urgency and the pervasive challenge of accomplishing more in less time. The project seeks to juxtapose the relentless pursuit for efficiency and productivity with the inherent human need for rest and contemplation.

On my recent wildflower hike up Ingalls creek close to Leavenworth, an old Johnny Rivers song somehow started playing in my mind and I could not get it out. The song was "Look to Your Soul" on his introspective Realization Album released decades ago, I believe the late 60's. I have not even thought of this song in decades also, but somehow on this trip it moved front and center of my mind for continuous playing. The song is about loosing oneself trying to be something one is not and finding redemption through looking into one's own soul. We can not help but look into our own souls when in such beautiful places like this. With lupines in a meadow between trees, with the steady flow of the river water running right through the core of our being, with a gentle wind caressing our skin, with an impenetrable deep and dark ok to Your Soulforest in the distance-we are in nature, and nature is in us.

There’s a moment between restraint and release—when you’re not hiding, but holding. This is that moment.

I don't know why, I don't know how

I thought I loved you, but I'm not sure now

I've seen you look at strangers too many times

A love-you-once is of a, a different kind

Remember when we felt the sun

A love like paradise, how hot it burned

A threat of distant thunder, the sky was red

And when you walked, you always - turned every head

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down

(All day, all day) Domino dancing

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down

(All day, all day, domino dancing)

I thought that when we fought I was to blame

But now I know you play a different game

I've watched you dance with danger, still wanting more

Add another number to the score

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down

(All day, all day) Domino dancing

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down

(All day, all day, domino dancing)

When you look around you wonder

Do you play to win?

Or are you just a bad loser?

(All day, all day)

(All day, all day)

I don't know why, I don't know how

I thought I loved you but I'm not sure now

I hear the thunder crashing, the sky is dark

And now a storm is breaking within my heart

So far 2014 has been a frustrating year. Physically, at work & in my personal life - all have experienced unwanted change. My reluctance to accept them just compounds my unhappiness and does nothing to improve the issues.

I see more changes coming. I would like to move forward, adapt and influence the new directions. I guess that choice is up to me.

Sometimes strength looks like stillness. In this fine art black and white portrait, a quiet story unfolds, not of motion, but of presence. The hood drawn close, the gaze turned inward, the world momentarily held at a distance. He wears the expression of reflection, that soft defiance between youth and resilience, where emotion lingers just beneath the surface. The monochrome tones amplify the honesty of the moment, the texture of thought, the solitude of becoming, the courage to be seen without saying a word.

This photograph belongs to a series exploring introspection, strength, and emotion, the kind found in athletes, dreamers, and those still discovering their place in the noise. A study of grit in stillness and truth in silence.

When it comes to making art as I see it, there are two ways to go. The first is to do it to satisfy your own creative enquiry, to follow a path untainted by others and attempt to explore thoughts and feelings from ‘your’ perspective. This need not ever been seen by others, it only has ‘one’ audience and generally is recognised as being the ‘correct’ way to be ‘true’ to one’s vision. Then, there is the other way. To decide on a target audience, (consciously or not), to collect a bunch of elements together that the current ‘fashion’ dictates, and to mix it all up, synthesise and present ‘your vision’ to the audience. In theory if done correctly, there should be applause, awards and plenty of back patting. Both ways are fun, they both offer lots of interesting outcomes, they both produce work that pleases somebody, but, and its coming don’t worry, there is always a but.

As I see it there isn’t a difference. There is always a target audience, even if it’s small. Some ‘artists’ know how to manipulate the market and present their ‘original’ work, (so they convincingly pretend to bump up the price) they know how to work the market and give it what it thinks it wants. But others plough their own furrow into a corner with only an introspective reflection for company. They still are making decisions (conscious or not) to produce something that presents and works out, ideas, feelings and attempts to communicate them visually.

Anyway, as promised from yesterday here is an image that has a few more spoons full of sugar, but with I hope a twist of something that gives it kick! Enjoy your new beginnings all and I hope to see lots of interesting twists in 2015.

The beauty in old things.

Have you ever felt the need to take a break from your most passionate pursuit? I’ve recently taken a small respite from getting out for, post-processing and writing about photography lately, like I’m always motivated to do. I think sometimes we all need a quiet mental break to recharge our creativity. This image taken last September in Colorado, reflects it’s photographer’s quiet introspective mood, but the good news is my favorite month is right around the corner, and with it, a renewed vigor to chase compelling compositions.

Another entry for round 3 of the Iron Builder Forge competition, built as a little introspective reflection on what I have accomplished so far. This is the most social media attention I have ever gotten, and it truly does feel like I'm on a stage of sorts now, with a fantastic audience cheering me on! So I'm going to keep this concert going on my rise to stardom!

He said nothing. But something pressed behind those lashes, a quiet storm of thoughts too big for words, too early for answers. Behind him, the world spun soft and unaware. In front of him, a moment, still, private, and quietly infinite.

"Oh, it was so dark along this street. Just that hooded, half-dimmed light on the other side, too far behind me to do any good any more. Looking downward into the little pool of its own reflection, like a discreetly retiring eye refusing to see what happened to me..."

Two juvenile bald eagle siblings are perched closely on a tree branch, surrounded by lush green leaves. Their gaze is directed downward, creating a serene and introspective scene!!!

captured in stark black-and-white, this image tells a quiet story of light and shadow, movement and stillness. one figure enters through a brightly illuminated door, casting long shadows across the floor, while another stands partially hidden in shadow, watching from the sidelines. the intense contrast and cinematic framing lend the scene a sense of mystery, reminiscent of classic film noir. in this moment, light becomes both a barrier and a bridge, highlighting the solitude of each figure in their own space within the frame.

beneath portoâs neoclassical facades, an old man folds into shadow like a page curling back in time. light and smoke trail behind him, and the stone around him seems to watch in silence â buildings, like people, remembering more than they say.

a fleeting moment through the window. shadows of the present pass by, blurred and faceless, while the statue stands still, timeless and unmoved. a silent witness to all who come and go. between stone and shadow, past and present merge. a quiet reflection on memory and time.

Draped in a red dress, the subject's back is turned to the camera, her hair caught mid-movement. This image speaks to the unspoken narratives of everyday moments, where the familiar meets the mysterious.
