captured during a site visit to our townhouse el mar in portixol, mallorca, this photo tells a quiet story of a rare rainy day on the island. the reflection of the figure on the rain-streaked glass creates a haunting double, while the monochrome tones and overcast sky add a sense of calm and introspection. with the mediterranean sea in the background, the scene blends the modern structure of the building with the natural setting, finding beauty in the rare texture of raindrops on glass—a detail not often seen here. it’s a reflective moment, both literally and figuratively, where the unusual mallorcan rain brings a unique depth to the shot.
Ese momento en el que todos hemos vivido o reconocido que lo hemos hecho, ese estado en el que reflexionas y piensas desde el interior siendo verdaderamente sincero contigo mismo…
That’s me as an author-mid-thought, mid-mug, mid-muddle. Feet up like I’ve conquered something, but really I’m just trying to outstare the desk until it gives up a good idea.
The books are judging me. The decorations are nostalgic but unhelpful. The plant’s thriving, which feels like a personal attack. I’ve got a speaker humming low in the corner, hoping a bassline will shake loose a metaphor. Nothing yet.
This is my ritual: sit, sip, stare. Let the shadows stretch across the wall like half-written sentences. I pretend I’m relaxed, but I’m actually negotiating with silence. I ask it nicely to hand over a spark. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it just watches me squirm.
But here’s the thing-I believe in this moment. The not-yet. The almost. The ache before the idea. Because when inspiration finally arrives, it never knocks. It just slips in quietly, sits beside me, and says, “You ready?”
… change is in the air as I move from one job to another … nothing negative in that, but this, plus Covid in the house (and the income tax deadline approaching) lead to a day of thinking inward and about how things turn and to get things done …
Detail at Tamala Park Conservation Area. Such a peaceful quiet place of solitude and introspection. One of my favourite places to visit
at port de pollença, where the sea whispers tales of yesteryear to the shore, the waning winter sun drapes its soft blanket over the scene. in this monochromatic symphony, the clouds parade across the stage of sky, flaunting their textures against the light. beams break through, an ethereal spotlight on the earth below. a duo, small against the expanse of sand, traverses the beach, their footprints a testament to presence in this vast emptiness. the tree, gnarled and wise, bends in silent observation, its bare branches a stark contrast to the softness of the sands it watches over. the moment is still yet transient, as if all the elements have conspired to pause, just for a breath, in reverence of the day's final act. this photo is not just an image, but a verse in the ballad of the balearic winter, a dance of shadows and light, a fleeting embrace between the land and the fleeting day.
amidst the architectural marvels of valencia's ciudad de las artes y las ciencias, a solitary figure stands, embodying the contrast between human presence and grand design. the sweeping curves and towering structures create a backdrop of futuristic elegance, while the lone woman, cloaked in shadows and light, invites contemplation. her presence adds a touch of humanity to the cold, imposing lines of modernity, emphasizing the scale and beauty of our built environment. this moment, captured in monochrome, reflects the quiet introspection amidst urban grandeur.
A moment of introspection on a Dublin street.

Aussi impitoyable que le fil de l'épée

Reefnetting allows for much needed introspection and reflection. Yesterday, while not catching fish for eight hours, I had time to ruminate on the beautiful symmetry of this unique pastime. Two boats, two stands, two buoy lines, two head cans, and sometimes too much time between hauls. I wouldn't trade this experience for the world.

Strobist info: two speedlights (SB-900 and SB-600) with the built-in wide angle panels engaged, facing the model at shoulder height from both sides. The speedlights were triggered by the camera's built-in flash set in CLS commander mode. I blocked light from the built-in flash by using Nikon's SG-31R IR panel.
We often feel that if we’re not actively accomplishing something, our time is being wasted. But "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" invites us to reconsider that perspective. Taking time to pause—without deadlines, tasks, or goals—isn't wasted; it's essential.
These moments of stillness, like watching the waves or sitting quietly with a guitar, help us center ourselves, reconnect with who we are, and find clarity amidst the chaos of life. It's in these pauses that we restore balance and regain the strength to keep moving forward.
Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay
There are so many people dying needlessly at this time due to disease, hunger, acts of violence and fleeing from them.To the victims of ideology and fundamentalism, ignorance and intolerance, of greed and avarice, stupidity and ruthlessness.

Note by the creator
Welcome to THE HILL OF CROSSES,
My version of a RL site, bearing the same name, in Lithuania.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hill_of_Crosses
This is not a graveyard, but a quiet place of peace, introspection and tranquility.
A sense of melancholia lies over the small hill, and it can be a site of mourning and longing. The items and plants - even the layout of the ground - are often symbolic, but instead of telling too much I would like to invite visitors to create their own meaning and story here.
Please feel free to explore the parcel, there are many hidden (non-adult) corners inviting to rest and relax.
…
Thank you for visiting, and enjoy your stay,
Fleming Helfenstein

Fulton Street Station.
Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time. Which was the case with this photo. These moments don’t happen often, but when they do…
This is the first of a series that I’ve been working on for the last few months. It’s hard to create something different that has been shot a billion times, but here is my take on the interior of this iconic station.
Stay safe everyone

the underground tunnel stretches into infinity, its walls a mirror of the world both outside and within. one figure walks alone, cast in shadow, while their reflection offers a glimpse into a parallel reality. here, silence and solitude merge with the soft hum of the city above. light bounces, dances, but the atmosphere remains still—a moment of introspection, frozen in time beneath the hustle of berlin's "rotes rathaus."
