When China meets Bauhaus/
In the beginning of British industrial revolution, China was at war with multiple foreign countries. During the period of Bauhaus, the engineering and mining industries were withering and stagnate. Thereafter, the civil war between KMT and CCP caused the complete alienation of the development of industrial revolution in China. Until now, the Chinese style of furniture still consider should involve great amount of woodcarving and complicated totems. There’s someone has told me Chinese furniture can’t be form with modern industrial material and minimalism design. This motivate me refuse to concede defeat of accepting the current trend. As a designer from Asia, I feel I have the obligation to make up for the absence of Bauhaus. In this series, there’s no over decoration but keeping it simple and clean to demonstrate the Chinese furniture with clear image. And best part, it actually qualifies for industrial production and the concept of practical use.
Introductions is an exhibition featuring eight artists who
have recently graduated from BFA or MFA programs around the country. Trestle Gallery introduces the
artists in this show and each of the artists in Introductions display a pressing sense of time, transition,
and the unknown through their artwork.
