Manila Metropolitan Cathedral, the ecclesiastical seat of the Archdiocese of Manila.
Plaza Roma, Intramuros, Manila, Philippines
Officially established on September 21, 1581, the first Cathedral of Manila was constructed out of wood, bamboo, and nipa — materials which were readily available at the time.
Throughout the centuries, the cathedral had been ravaged by natural disasters and bombed during the Battle of Liberation in 1945. The present-day structure is actually the eighth cathedral which rose from the desolate ruins of its predecessors.
i just got home from a night fun-shoot and can't wait to save and review my shots. the man in this pic is my photo buddy who was the brain of this shoot. we just played badminton last night, had a bottle of beer and agreed to conquer Intramuros because of its classic and historical ambiance.
According to wikipedia, Intramuros which is located along the southern bank of the Pasig River, was built by the Spaniards in the 16th century and is the oldest district of the city of Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Its name, in Latin, intramuros, literally "within the walls", meaning within the wall enclosure of the city/fortress, also describes its structure as it is surrounded by thick, high walls and moats. During the Spanish colonial period, Intramuros was considered Manila itself.
Huuh what a day! my wife and i really enjoyed this shoot. many thanks to ian for inviting.
Intramuros is a centuries old Spanish walled city in Manila. This is one of the corners/turrets. It is surrounded by a golf course now, and has night golfing. Photo credit tropical.pete
Intramuros is famous for the original Spanish architecture left over from colonial times. Construction within the walls of Intramuros is highly regulated so that new buildings or renovations stay true to the old Spanish styled architecture.

In 1940 - 1941 before the 2nd WW - I used to walk these walls going from somewhere at the back of St Ignacios Church, from Calle Anda to Manila Cathedral - but not up to Fort Santiago, using the walkways on top of the walls. We resided at that time right across St Ignacios Church at Calle Arzobispo.
