Not posted much in the way of industrial photos lately, so here's two to make up for it.
This one is a revisit of an old shot, but in B&W and on 5x4 this time. Original here. Lots changed in the three or four years since I originally shot this, the cab light has sadly gone out and the surrounding area is looking more overgrown. And the other crane has moved to the other end of the yard.

"I'm Set Free..."
My first encounter with those TaAp artists was a godsend. It took me out of my lonely wilderness and into the light of comradeship. . .
. . .They were being severely admonished for stupidly spraying a large, public, dead xmas tree black, and whilst they were lovingly coating each needle a cloud of toxic vibes was to engulf them. That was just a minor reprimand amongst the meltdown that was engulfing their lives, domestic breakdowns, a court case, addictions and financial chaos were providing a rich compost for ideas. The tree ended up being suspended upside down as the crowning glory to the show 'Possessed Possessions'.
With no money and no hope they fought back creating a series of posters with their own brand of anarchic surrealism and laughed in the face of impending doom. Under the prevailing crises and distorted consumerism of Xmas, they embraced the darkness with the torch of absurdity.
I often break into the studio before they get together. I sit in the rafters just out of eyesight, Ray, my sister likes to come as she has a fancy for them. She says whilst individually they all have impressive attributes, brave and original careers of their own, she finds collectively they could fulfil her, she says they become like one man... tender, brutal, honest, deceitful, strong yet vulnerable.
I love to watch them share their maleness in such a refreshing way, accessing memories that become embellished to enrich their conclusions. I had given up hope, but here are 4 blokes pretending to be artists in a very real way; then they work with a glistening tirade of ideas, that's so beautiful to watch.
They offer up their drawings like secure children to proud parents. But they relish and encourage each other to tear up and blacken out their efforts. But you should see how tenderly this is done. The results are concluded quickly and easily its either good or bad.
"I often want to climb down and join them. How would they welcome me? But I prefer to watch. As Yogi Bear famously said, "You can learn a lot by simply observing".

On 24th September 2017 , about 500 protesters participated in a muscial rally held by the Story of the frontiers in Edinburg Square to show support and solidarity with the jailed activist. Performers included the Interzone collective, Anthony Wong, Denise Ho, Edmund Leung, Wong Hin Yan, Adrian Chow, BoyzReborn and others.
Friends and family members of the jailed activists also shared their thoughts and read out the letters from the prisoners.
Before the concert, a mobile classroom was held , inviting the former legislators Leung Kwok Hung and Margaret Ng as speakers.

So basically I'm going to a conference in the States, which I'm terribly excited about. My schedule is a bit hectic however. I fly today (11 hours + 3 in the airport), conference tomorrow and Friday two hours from San Francisco, Saturday off, then fly back on Sunday arriving back in the UK on Monday morning. I only managed four hours sleep last night for a whole range of reasons, which is giving everything a satisfyingly unreal distant feel (which I get anyway from the bland uniformity of airports).

Ann Lauterbach What We Know As We Know It: Reading “Litany” with John Ashbery from Conjunctions: 49, Fall 2007
Occupying two posts in the central stairwell of the Mackintosh Museum, two speakers made from wood, silver Mylar and Blacktak tape emit a constant, slowly changing soundtrack into the stairwell and surrounding gallery. The audio is composed from several sources: a commercially available recording of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe/Zambia, a recording of Ann Lauterbach and John Ashbery reading Ashbery’s epic poem for two voices Litany (1979), and a field recording made in The Apple Store by the artist, all tweaked at points with specific tremolo or rotary speaker effects.
Victoria Falls is the ‘largest natural source of Brown(ian) noise’ (as distinct from white noise), and the recording is sold to aid relaxation or mask other sounds, presenting a steady background, an indistinct but unavoidable presence. A German scientist noted that ‘The notes C, E, G, F, belong to all rushing water, and in great falls are sometimes in different octaves.’ The female and male voices reciting Litany have been slowed and dropped in pitch leaving a guttural, animalistic residue of the vocal inflections that Ashbery’s poem skilfully weaves around what Lauterbach discerns as the core sense of his poetry: it’s ability to allow us to ‘listen for the multiplicity, the plurality, of experience’. She quotes William James: ‘each part hangs together with its very next neighbour’s in inextricable interfusion.’

One of a series of 2009 views of the changing face of Church Street and Lord Street in Liverpool, where the old (upper storeys) contrasts with modern business and retail (ground floor). The two (continuous) streets form the interzone between the (almost) totally new build 'Liverpool One' and the older part of the city centre.
