Grevillea is a genus in the family Proteaceae. Most Grevilleas are endemic to Australia. The flowers are coiled and curled and are sometimes referred to as spider flowers. The style expands and bursts out of the side of the corolla as the stigma remains in the end, where it is coated with pollen from anthers. What comes next is not seen in this photo: the stigma is released from the corolla as the tepals fold back and springs up with its coating of pollen. It is an example of secondary pollen presentation, a floral mechanism where pollen is presented to pollinators on structures other than the anthers, the typical pollen-bearing organs. After a day or two, pollen on the stigma dies and a receptive surface emerges to be pollinated by pollen from other plants. This link shows the stages clearly: www.researchgate.net/profile/Byron-Lamont/publication/276... florabase.dbca.wa.gov.au/browse/profile/1949

You know how sometimes you see someone's photographs, and they touch something very deep in you, and you just sigh and think "I wish I could make a picture like that one day...."?
Well, this is a picture that would not exist if I hadn't felt like that about the night photographs of 415Kurt.
Until 1989, strict GDR border controls were carried out at Probstzella station (Thuringia) on the Frankenwaldbahn railway line. This mainly affected trains carrying passengers to and from cities in the GDR. On interzone trains from Munich and Stuttgart to Berlin, the controls were carried out on the train itself.

I would call this a cityscape if not for the perspective, so instead here's another image without a real title of a place where the manmade and natural intersect.

In that Jazz corner of life / Wrapped in a mist of sound / His legacy, our Jazz-tinted dawn / Walking his triumphs of oddly begotten dreams / Inviting the nerveless to feed once more / That fierce dying of humans consumed / In raging fires of Love (Mario Rom's Interzone, poem by Bob Kaufman)

Engine of the East German “Deutsche Reichsbahn”, 1970ies. Shot on film. These steam engines pulled the Interzone trains between East and West Germany. Bebra in West Germany was one destination and also service point.
Maybe the Zone is a very complex system of tolls. I have no idea what goes on here in the absence of man. But as soon as someone arrives everything goes haywire. The Zone is exactly how we created it ourselves, like the state of our spirits. But what is happening, that does not depend on the Zone, that depends on us.
(Andrej Tarkovskij, 1979)

Interzone
Joy Division
1979
‘The lights shined like a neon show
Inserted deep fell a warmer glow
No place to stop, no place to go
No time to loose, had to keep on going’
The song ‘Interzone’ is based on the William S. Burroughs novel ‘Nova Express’, forming a trilogy with ‘The Soft Machine’ and ‘The Ticket That Exploded’. The train depicted is a TransPennine Express ‘Nova 3’, though I’m quite certain the name isn’t linked in any way to the book!

Burroughs was unsure who was running him, like ‘a spy in somebody else’s body where nobody knows who is spying on whom’. Until the end of his life he struggled against the ‘Thing inside him. The Ugly Spirit’ remarking that: ‘I live with the constant threat of possession, and a constant need to escape from possession, from Control.’

The shadow that stood by the side of the road
always reminds me of you.
How can I find the right way to control,
all the conflict inside, all the problems beside
as the questions arise, and the answer don't fit
into my way of things
into my way of things.
L'ombra che stava sul lato della strada
mi faceva sempre ricordare di te.
Come posso trovare il giusto modo di controllare
tutti i conflitti interiori, tutti i problemi circostanti
mentre sorgono le domande e le risposte sono inadeguate
nella mia situazione
nella mia situazione.

Well what better way to spend New Years Day than to defrost my film fridge. :-p The ice was pretty bad - It had eaten up some of the rolls which are now freed from their icy film prison. And after the amount of interest I've had in this photo of the fridge full of film thought I'd lay em out nice and post a photo up here. Aren't I lovely...There's a grand total of:
-56 sheets of 5x4
-138 Rolls of 120 (1056 shots)

Works out at roughly 4000 shots available. Think I'd better get some of it used eh?
