NASA’s IMAP detector being tested at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) located at Brookhaven National Lab. The Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe, or IMAP, is an orbiter that will help researchers better understand the boundary of the heliosphere, a sort of magnetic bubble surrounding and protecting our solar system. It is projected to be launched in 2025. (Kevin Coughlin / Brookhaven National Laboratory)
Within three years the anual Dekmantel Festival in the Amsterdamse Bos has grown an international reputation, with visitors from all over the world. Rightfully so, since it's hard to find a festival line up so strong and balanced as Dekmantel does.
Together with two colleagues I wrote a report and brought a camera. www.djbroadcast.net/article/124735/djb-report-dekmantel-f...

Part of Into the Unknown: A Journey through Science Fiction
(June-September 2017)
Uncover the mysterious lands of Jules Verne and Ray Harryhausen where Science Fiction narratives first took root. Venture on an odyssey into our solar system, with vintage artwork promoting Soviet visions of space alongside immersive work by Soda_Jerk. Visit a gallery of aliens, and stand alongside iconic spacesuits from a galaxy of blockbusters including Star Trek and Interstellar.
Imagine dystopian worlds with Margaret Atwood and 28 Days Later. Then, with nowhere left to explore but human consciousness, delve deep and experience the transformation and mutation of the body through the eyes of Jack Kirby and Ex Machina.
Curated by historian and writer Patrick Gyger, this festival-style exhibition consists of more than 800 works, many of which have never been seen in the UK before.

Okay, seriously, how cool is that?
This test tube contains 1.2 mg (1/25,000 oz..) of small diamond crystals isolated from the Allende meteorite, suspended in an acid and alcohol solution.
This diamond dust is billions of years old and predates our solar system.

A science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan and written by him and his brother Jonathan Nolan, from a treatment by Kip Thorne and producer Lynda Obst. The film is an exploration of physicist Kip Thorne's theories of gravity fields, wormholes and several hypotheses that Albert Einstein was never able to prove.
Loved how the abstract comet startrail showed the movement of the heavens...? Hrs in the cold, 227 images and hrs of processing, phew. All worth it. ??✨ via 500px ift.tt/2IZwVR0

Preliminary Report on Unidentified Object 92002, "The Chiron Derelict"
I created a video to demonstrate the (hand-cranked) flickering backlight of the Neuronal Node. (This is the Director's Cut - if you saw the video when I posted earlier pictures, the music is better now and the whole thing has been reworked. The video is over on YouTube, because Flickr's video player doesn't seem to work very well.) Enjoy!
Discovered by a robot probe exploring the minor planet 2060 Chiron, object 92002 appears to be nothing less than an interstellar spacecraft of nonhuman origin.
The relevant probe imagery was suppressed, and an unprecedented manned exploration mission was dispatched to investigate the artifact.
Adrift, apparently long abandoned, the vessel is nonetheless far from lifeless. Indeed, the ship itself is alive. It shows every indication of being a complex colony organism composed of many disparate subunits, which the exploration team calls "nodes".
This appears to be no natural space-going lifeform, but a deliberately assembled combination of biomechanoid modules. Most of the nodes are so completely self-contained, so tightly specialized, and so efficient at their functions, that they must have been genetically engineered with near godlike skill.
This "neuronal" node appears to be a small-scale neural network, equivalent in decision-making power to perhaps a few dozen biological neurons. These nodes - many thousands of them, no two exactly alike - are part of a larger apparent network that covers the derelict's surface in complex stripes and webs, integrating other types of nodes at times.
Many of the derelict's neuronal nodes seem to be still active, even when excised and placed in shielded storage. There are dark patches, but it would be prudent to assume that the derelict as a whole may be, even now, intelligent and aware.
The unexpected discovery of such an advanced alien artifact so close to Earth is alarming, and the apparent abandonment of the vessel by its presumed crew is hardly reassuring. If they - whoever they are - are not still on board...where did they go?
This is an illuminated alien/organic greeble study for Greeble De Mayo 2015, Week Three.
