La première chapelle de Notre-Dame-de-Rocamadour fut construite en 1183. La partie la plus ancienne de la chapelle actuelle date de 1527. Ce lieu de culte ne doit pas son nom au pèlerinage d’un prêtre médiéval à Rocamadour en Quercy comme il est souvent affirmé, mais au socle de pierre sur lequel la chapelle a été construite au bout du Sillon, le Roc’h a ma dour (du celte Roc’h = rocher, am a= au milieu, et Dour = eau, soit le « rocher au milieu des eaux »).
La chapelle, comme la Tour Vauban, se trouve sur un rocher relié à l’Esplanade Jim Sévellec par le « Sillon ». Certains habitants de Camaret l’appellent « Roz Madou » qui a, sous une forme linguistique un peu différente, le même sens que roc au milieu des eaux.
Il serait imprudent de donner une date précise quant à la construction de l’édifice. Dans divers documents on trouve des dates qui se contredisent. Il est notamment fait mention de ND de Rocamadour dans un bref du pape Grégoire XI, daté de 1372 et accordant des indulgences aux fidèles qui contribueraient à la reconstruction du monument. Ce qui laisse supposer qu’auparavant il y aurait eu une chapelle. Il semble néanmoins que l’on peut dater la construction, compte tenu de l’inscription figurant sur le pignon ouest en abréviation d’usage à l’époque : « L’an 1527 fut fondée la chapelle Notre-Dame du Roc ».
La construction a été lente. Au-dessus de l’inscription sur le même pignon, on peut lire les dates suivantes : 1610, 1647, 1683. Suivies des noms des recteurs D. Myttern, Torrec, Kéraudren, D. Palud, lesquels ont restauré l’édifice.
Le clocheton a été décapité lors de la bataille de Trez-Rouz le 18 juin 1694 par un boulet anglo-hollandais.
Les armes des seigneurs de Crozon, successeurs des Rohan et représentés par la famille de Goulaine, sont demeurées intactes malgré les décrets de la Convention, ordonnant de les marteler. Elles sont visibles au-dessous du clocheton.

Because of global warming bogs in the Midwest are all but gone. This one in NE Indiana is probably one of the most southern ones left. they are amazing things, I almost died in one in Michigan.

The 2020 Perseid meteor shower was a great light show. The lights on the right are from a small town called Big Pine and the line of lights on the bottom are from vehicles on highway 395.
NGC 2442 is a galaxy in the Volans constellation, around 50 million light years from earth.
While technically a spiral galaxy, the quite distorted shape of its spiral arms is what immediately stands out. This is likely the result of gravitational interaction/merger with another galaxy in the past.
I opted to stick with a wider view (instead of cropping to just the galaxy) because the surrounding area has quite a bit of colourful stars and interstellar dust (which are both foreground elements within our own galaxy) which frames everything quite nicely I think.

The milky way over Gunnamatta beach, with a slight pinkish glow from the aurora australis. This image is a 7 image stitched (portrait orientation) panoramic.
The interstellar visitor 31Atlas will pass 167.1 million ml from Earth on 19 December 2025, when it will be inside the asteroid belt and beyond the 4:1 Kirkwood gap.
It will then head on to Jupiter where it will pass it in the Spring of 2026.
After that it will continue on it's way out of the solar system never to return.
