The casts for the rocket engine system all came out beautifully, and as you can see I was eager to firmly superglue them down into the modules.
This is why we use reference material kids! I had glued them in upside down, there needed to be three thrusters on the outermost edge, not one....
After some question of how to remove them, I wound up whacking the modules in a vice and prying the engines out with a chisel, surprisingly I only had to recast one thruster, everything else went fine!
I can't believe how long it's been since I updated the thread on this build- I've been working on it incrementally but totally neglected to keep things posted.
Regardless, here's where I'm at;
five of the modules had severe air cavities under the main layer of resin where it ought to have been solid, so rather than ignore the issue (as it wasn't visible, but was structurally questionable) I cut out those areas before levelling them out with resin and filler.
Then this evening I rewatched Interstellar itself whilst panelling the repaired modules.
Tomorrow I'm going to build the master for the spherical joints... my intention is to vacuum form them in halves to preserve the ability for disassembly.
The nebula level has multi-layer parallax scrolling like all of the other levels. The gaseous nebula layers were created in Gimp using the clouds rendering filter.

Throughout yesterday I worked on refining the taper of the Ranger cabin, before hand scribing the panel lines.
After using double-sided tape to hold the model down to my milling bed, I tried machining the windows... long story short, I am really not skilled enough.
So I filled them back in and instead used the mill to create accurately aligned thruster holes.
Detailing on the Habitation Module. I still need to place a couple of windows in the angled recess, but overall it's nearly ready for moulding.

Photo dump: making headway on the Lander master.
Landing bulks are machined acetal, and thruster chambers in Perspex. I had to simplify the geometry of the landing bulks as I had very little success getting it correct; so I captured the essence of the shapes and moulded them. I'll cast and modify a pair for the slightly larger rear boxes.

Progression on the Endurance paintwork over the past month or so. A lot of work in pastel powders and pencil, along with fine brushwork for the thermal blanket weathering to get the real NASA uneven wear look. There's still a lot to do but we're moving forward nonetheless
