This image of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS was taken on 18 January 2026 with the FORS2 instrument on ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT). It is a stack of several images spanning 14 minutes. As the comet moves on the sky, the stars appear as trails in the background.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with NASA’s IMAP (Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe), the agency’s Carruthers Geocorona Observatory, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Follow On–Lagrange 1 (SWFO-L1) spacecraft atop stands vertical at Launch Complex 39A as the sun sets on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The missions will each focus on different effects of the solar wind — the continuous stream of particles emitted by the Sun — and space weather — the changing conditions in space driven by the Sun — from their origins at the Sun to their farthest reaches billions of miles away at the edge of our solar system. Shot for the "50 ways to leave your lover" challenge at DPChallenge.com (inspired by a Paul SImon song).
I created my own page of the book in Microsoft Word so that I could get the quote on a single line. Then I placed the page in a book and weighted it down with the ring and something else. From here it was just getting the depth of field correct, with a good composition and lighting.
Strobist Info: Lit with a single flash from camera left with a honeycomb attached. This allowed for the heavy shadows seen here, which adds bit of drama.
