...intersecting lines and shadows, early one morning some months ago.

Cette église se dresse sur Pfarrplatz qui devient ensuite Ettalerstrasse, à Oberammergau, Land de Bavière, en Allemagne.

 

Vue de l’intersection Dorfstrasse et Sterngasse, cette église datant de 1735-1740 se distingue par son style Rococo et son charmant clocher en bulbe.

 

Oberammergau est un gros village qui se situe sur le site d'un fort guelfe du 9e siècle baptisé Villa Ambrigow. Oberammergau est aujourd’hui reconnu internationalement pour son artisanat du bois (sculptures et gravures), ses maisons aux façades peintes appelées Lüftlmalerei, typiques des Alpes bavaroises (Oberbayern), et enfin ses représentations du Mystère de la Passion organisées tous les 10 ans (prochaine en 2020) par des bénévoles villageois (qui laissent pousser leur barbe une année à l'avance).

 

Ces représentations font suite à un ancien vœu fait par les villageois désespérés par la centaine de morts causées par une épidémie de peste apportée par un voyageur en 1632. En l'absence de morts supplémentaires, le village décida de respecter sa promesse et organisa sa 1ère représentation en 1634. C'est la plus vieille tradition du genre en Allemagne.
