"Water Lilies" by Claude Monet (1907); Oil on Canvas

1. The renewable resources present in this painting are water, flowers/ plants, and sunlight.

2. The intermediate renewable resources that are present are sunlight and water.

3. The fields of study that can be represented and related to the painting are the areas of ethics, ecology and even atmospheric science.

4. On the continuum from ecocentric to anthropocentric, this artists' viewpoint can be considered ecocentric because it is showing an ecosystem in its natural state without human involvement or interruption.

5. The possible level of human influence can possible be considered low to moderate because, once again there is not any human presence, but the water can possibly contain some pollution from man.

6. The energy flow in this piece can be interpreted as going from Producer (phytoplankton) --> primary consumer (zooplankton)-->secondary consumers (fish and tadpoles)--> tertiary consumers (frogs and birds)-->decomposers (bacteria that can be found in the water)

7. The biome that is depicted in this painting is that of an aquatic system because the water temperature, salinity, dissolved nutrients, and the light levels that is regulated by the force of the sun, will all affect the pond and the way that it functions.

8. One of the biogeochemical cycles that can be observed in this landscape is the water cycle. Obviously there is water present. meaning that the water can transport nutrients, sediments and even pollutants across the pond to different surrounding areas. The water will eventually evaporate and cycle through the atmosphere over and over again, even the lilies can provide additional nutrients.

9. The food web that is depicted may go a little something as follows: soil/ underwater sediment-->phytoplankton-->algae-->lilies-->flowers-->fish-->frogs-->birds

10. An example of succession in this painting can be the dying off of algae, lilies, plants, and phytoplankton, which will eventually lead to the growth of more zooplankton which can lead to the water being filled with organic matter and the emergence and development of a terrestrial system.

A long time photographer, I did a professional course back in the late '70s, and am now building up my business to (hopefully!) make me some income in retirement. I’d love to have done this earlier in my life and urge young photographers to go for it!

My equipment consists of full frame Canon DSLRs, plus medium format digital (Hasselblad).

I shoot mainly landscapes, with nature/wildlife running a close second, and I am interested in steam trains, historic buildings/structures,; domestic animals, sport including surfing.

After 32 years in and around our nation’s cold capital, Canberra, I now live on the beautiful (and sunny) Tweed / Gold Coast and can take photos on demand of the many stunning and unique locations here.

The Intermediate Egret, Median Egret,[2] or Yellow-billed Egret (Mesophoyx intermedia) is a medium-sized heron. It is a resident breeder from east Africa across tropical southern Asia to Australia. It often nests in colonies with other herons, usually on platforms of sticks in trees or shrubs. Two to five eggs are laid, the clutch size varying with region. This species, as its scientific name implies, is intermediate in size between the Great Egret and smaller white egrets like the Little Egret and Cattle Egret, though nearer to Little than Great. It is about 90 cm tall with all-white plumage, generally dark legs and a thickish yellow bill. Breeding birds may have a reddish or black bill, greenish yellow gape skin, loose filamentous plumes on their breast and back, and dull yellow or pink on their upper legs (regional variations). The sexes are similar.

Some taxonomists put this species in the genus Egretta or Ardea.

The Intermediate Egret stalks its prey methodically in shallow coastal or fresh water, including flooded fields. It eats fish, frogs, crustaceans and insects.

King Intermediate Principal Sheena Alaiasa is the first educator from Hawaii to be named National Middle Level Principal of the Year by MetLife and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

In May, Sheena Alaiasa was named Hawaii’s Middle School Principal of the Year. From the pool of nationwide winners, NASSP judges chose the three finalists. Ms. Alaiasa was chosen over two other finalists from California and Mississippi after an intense round of interviews, which also included a PowerPoint presentation.

Ms. Alaiasa’s award includes a $3,500 grant. In September, she will be honored during a learning institute event in Washington, D.C., where state winners will share their knowledge and meet other education leaders and politicians.

In her four years at King Intermediate, Ms. Alaiasa has received recognition for significant contributions toward student achievement, leading the school out of restructuring and elevating it to statewide acclaim.
