Union Pacific TR5 No. 1875 creeps toward the GRS interlocking and 'moveable-point' frogs at Lakota Crossing in Orem, Utah the afternoon of Dec. 27, 1981. The crossing was removed late in 1985 with switches installed when the UP was granted trackage rights on the Rio Grande between Lakota and Salt Lake City.

After receiving a clear signal to proceed over CPKC’s Lacombe Subdivision, Canadian National EMD SD75IACC 8327 (originally SD75I 5697) eases train X188 through the interlocking at Alix, Alberta, on its southbound journey along the Three Hills Subdivision, en route to the line’s terminus at Calgary Logistics Park.
A GP39M and a GP39-3, the lead unit originally built for the GN as a GP30 and the trailing unit originally built for the Cotton Belt as a GP35, bring BNSF train R-HLA69311, the northbound Spring Hill local, up Track 82 of the KCT North-South Corridor at Old Union Depot Interlocking towards BNSF's Murray Yard in North Kansas City, MO. 9/15/19.
CSX 6341 and 2512 power through the Second St. interlocking in Dayton, OH with the day's J783 bound for Cincinnati. With about 10k feet of train in tow behind two second generation EMD's, they sounded really nice coming around the curve.
12,000 feet of automobile traffic and mixed freight from Alton & Southern's Gateway Yard drops down slowly off the MacArthur Bridge's elevated west approach, entering downtown St. Louis on an autumn's eve behind the watchful eyes of company re-brand SD70ACe #8504. At over two and a quarter miles long, this 13K ton, PSR-bred, Herrington, KS bound MASHN 11 stretches its westbound consist across the entire width of the mighty Mississippi River's water, occupying real estate across the state lines of both Illinois and Missouri. The pair of EMDs are seen rolling up to the busy interlocking at "Gratiot" where they'll diverge onto the Terminal "High Speeds" and around the yard at 12th St before connecting back to home Jefferson City Sub rails at Grand Ave. Back in 2022, Union Pacific recently announced a re-design of their corporate scheme that changed the look and position of their "Building America" flag from its more prominent spot alongside the locomotives' long hood, closer up front to the cab, protecting its patriotic image from damaging engine heat. With it, also came the loss of their "Wings;" Once proudly worn center stage on the noses of all new locomotives since 2002, the front now subtly displays a small, original UP company shield, forever now grounding those high-flying wings. The design concept was courtesy of employees at the railroad's Jenks Shops in North Little Rock, AR and as locomotives cycle through the program there, needing fresh paint, they'll receive this new treatment. In typical railroad fashion, the 8504's "new" paint is already covered in dirt and grime, looking almost in worse shape than its trailing protégé.
H76 power rolls north along the Pocono Main passing the beautifully restored Lackawanna interlocking tower in East Stroudsburg, PA. For most of the past 15 years the line north of Slateford has been almost exclusively used by the DL. However, recently NS has run between Slateford and Gravel Place whenever DL leaves a train for them up there.
The Giant's Causeway (Irish: Clochán an Aifir) is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland, about three miles (4.8 km) northeast of the town of Bushmills.
It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and a national nature reserve by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland in 1987. In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, the Giant's Causeway was named the fourth-greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom.
The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although some have four, five, seven, or eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (39 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres (92 ft) thick in places.
Much of the Giant's Causeway and Causeway Coast World Heritage Site is owned and managed by the National Trust. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Northern Ireland, receiving over 998,000 visitors in 2019. Access to the Giant's Causeway is free of charge: it is not necessary to go via the visitor centre, which charges a fee. The remainder of the site is owned by the Crown Estate and several private landowners. Wikipedia

But not here. A southbound (timetable westbound) SP freight approaches the Santa Fe interlocking at Stockton CA under the watchful eyes of a maintainer huddled in the hexagonal concrete shelter to the left.
It’s no question where this photo was taken, but recent drama has made this popular spot a ghost town. W003 is seen pausing just past the eastbound HX interlocking, preparing to head west on the Capital Sub.

It might be gloomy and overcast but given that this was my first time here I still needed to get the classic panoramic view from Mounds Park atop Daytons Bluff. An unidentified CPKC unit oil or ethanol train running in typical 1x1 DP fashion comes around the corner through Division Street approaching Hoffman Ave. interlocking on Main 2 of the joint CPKC/BNSF St. Paul Subdivision mainline. Interestingly Main 2 here is CP property and is MP 408.9 while Main 1 is BNSF and is MP 429.1. In the background can be seen the impressive downtown skyline and Union Station while in the top right is the dome of the 1905 built state capitol building.
Also note that Great River Road / Shephard Road is empty as it was closed during our visit due to Mississippi River flooding which had crested here on April 27th at 18.2 ft. There was also no river traffic moving and you'll note that all the barges can be seen safely lashed together and moored up along both banks.

Valadier Temple inside the Genga Cave – Marche, Italy
Set into the rock, suspended between light and silence, the Tempietto del Valadier reveals itself like a thought carved into the mountain.
Designed in the 19th century by architect Giuseppe Valadier, this neoclassical temple stands in the village of Genga, in the Marche region, inside a limestone cave that overlooks the Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi Natural Park.
Nearby, still intact, the small medieval church of Santa Maria Infra Saxa suggests that stone here has long guarded centuries of solitude and retreat.
Legend tells of pilgrims once arriving beneath this hidden dome,
seeking forgiveness.
A refuge of stone, built to welcome silence.
Still today, one arrives only on foot, as if slowly approaching the essential.
