Metra's Tower A2 interchange on Chicago's Near West Side is one of the busiest intersections in American railroading. Commuter trains from three different Metra lines (Union Pacific West, Milwaukee District North and North Central Services) cross and converge on their final approach to Ogilvie Transportation Center.

I make the two-hour round trip to Muscatatuck NWR as often as time and my desire to be a good husband allow. I always try to be there before daybreak so I can hear the creatures of the night calls wane and the refuge come alive with its daily activity. More often than not the colors of sunrise disappoint. Not on this day.
A thin sheet of ice covered much of the lake, pushing the Grebe close to my position. They took turns diving for breakfast as one kept an eye on the perceived threat at all times. I captured many shots, enjoying the contrast of black with the morning’s light. It was when they came in close to each other causing the snakelike pattern between them and their reflection that I decided to share this one.
I hope your day is blessed and your focus sharp!

Interlocking building as a concept of balanced interaction between wall and opening. This allows views into the environment and at the same time offers windowless wall surfaces as a place of retreat.

Both NS H76 and 21M are left-hand running today as they pass each other at the site of Bethlehem Steel. Until recently, the Lehigh Line was directional territory, and such a scene would not have been possible without track authority forms. Bidirectional running allows 21M to continue moving west around H76 where they would have otherwise blocked the entire interlocking at Bethlehem to cross over under the old configuration. Careful observers will note that 21M has an SD80MAC leading on this day - such things tend to happen when you are set up at a location where only a going-away view is possible.
10 Grand Street (l) and 1 South 1st Street are joined at the shoulder. Just one of the radical pieces of Williamsburg, Brooklyn architecture.
Monumental abstract stone sculpture in front of the Hilltop Science Centre of Wisley Gardens (Royal Horticultural Society) in Surrey. A good way of beginning to explore this vast area is to look at its sculptures. These two gigantic stone slabs are different, one bright, the other dark. There is an immediate polarity. However, they are interlocking and, therefore, despite their difference, complementary. They belong together. Out of duality, a new unity is formed. You can't get more abstract or basic than this. We are at an elementary level with this sculpture, and I find it quite appropriate for a place of science.

BNSF L-CHI657 (the Paducah turn) rumbles over the diamond at Waltonville with the Union Pacific's Pinckneyville Sub. The Pinckneyville Sub is mostly out of service, only seeing storage trains these days. A pair of Warbonnets lead today's 657.
The Kilfitt 90mm macro lens from the 1950s produces this characteristic and quite unique double circle bokeh. The lens includes a 'bi-radial' element, which effectively makes it an early aspherical lens design, something that's usually considered to be a modern innovation. I'm not sure if the design had the desired effect but it does something no other lens can do. It gets more normal stopped-down a little :-)

Steel Tower in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania controlled interlockings on the east side of Allentown Yard. Although its name may imply a proximity to the sprawling Bethlehem Steel complex, it was actually across the river behind Bethlehem Steel Fabricators. Here a set of power heads for Bethlehem Engine Terminal.
