As "interesting" as some of these photos may be, photos in Explore are not there because of a vote by viewers (in other words, they're nobody's favorites). They're displayed in Explore only because they meet the parameters of a computer algorithm, nothing more. "Explored" is not an award.
And why does an algorithm select the 500 most "interesting" photos of the day? It provides a way to display photos Flickr members might enjoy looking at.

For some reason, 2004 was an event filled year for our local weather. All the photos in this set were taken within a few hundred metres of each other in Maleny Queensland Australia.
It seems like my "microformats.org needs you" picture is now the "most interesting" picture of Jeremy Keith there is - even pipping to the post the two fantastic Star Wars themed images that were previously taking up the top spot.
Go me, and stuff.
Who knew pictures of the iPhone would be so damn interesting. Are we sure Apple doesn't make the Explore software?

I haven't been able to ID this wildflower I saw in the Francis Marion Forest. It was quite small; in fact, I didn't realize it was a compound flower until I looked at the photo. Anyone know what this is?
Interesting place. It is Jewish tradition to leave a stone when visiting a gravesite. Some graves had many stones .... some had none. via 500px ift.tt/2fhokNM

i find it interesting to watch newer pictures disappear while old pictures suddenly surface in Explore. I can never get all 24 at once.
