Mr. Putnam had the task of teaching to me many, many techniques sometimes repeatedly over time. His patience never wavered. He told me I've been doing karate longer than he's been alive. A dedicated young man who overcame some serious medical history as a small boy.

Chief Warrant Officer Jimmy Gomez is one of eight instructors chosen as finalists for Instructor of the Year on Fort Sill. They will all go on to compete for the Instructor of the Year in the US Army Training and Doctrine Command. A ceremony was held in their honor Dec. 15, 2009 at Fort Sill, Okla. They each received an ARCOM, a Commander's Award for Civilian Service Certificate, 2-Star Notes from Maj. Gen. David Halverson, 1-Star Notes from Brig.Gen. Mathews, 1-Star Notes from Brig. Gen. Ross Ridge, coins from Halverson and Post Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph Smith. They also received a certificate of recognition from Lawton's mayor along with several prizes donated by local merchants. Fort Sill has had two winners in the final TRADOC competition and is looking to make it three. The winner will be decided in early 2010.
