Sometimes, when I am working on the street, I come up with the composition with some objects that are around me. This time, I just came up with the specific composition, so I asked her to stand right beside the traffic light. Opps. I was so stoked about taking photos, so I almost forgot the cars behind me. They were saying something to me, but I don't care.
Instant Reborn event started 2 days ago and quite a crowd gathered on this sunny Saturday afternoon in the store. I felt happy seeing familiar faces who were in our event 2 years ago, lingering around chit chatting with each other.
Interestingly camera people usually have quite decent stamping etiquette, not like those who make quite a mess stamping on the table and wasting so much postcards without reading instructions on the how-to.
The passport book is so much fun and from what I heard, many like the idea and decided to own one at HK$25.
Polaroid collector TM refurbished some 636 cameras and painted them black and white, added "Instant Reborn" face plates, there you go, a limited edition "Instant Reborn" camera for the event, at this stage only 10 pieces are available. A leather/camera/watch fanatic Jemmer helped to add a leather strap too. It also came with a nice cotton bag and is sold at HK$1395 with a free pack of PX-600 film.
I did sold an SX-70 and a few pack of films myself today to a lady who is going to give this as a gift to her husband. I forgot to ask her to take a picture with Dr. Land though, people from the community did this naturally and one of them looks very much alike Dr. Land :)
BTW, Mijonju came all the way from Tokyo to this event, I bet he will be having a lot of fun going through TM's camera collections tomorrow in a private appointment.
Although the exhibiting items are not as jam packed as in 2008, we do have some polaroid T-shirts, poster, SX-70 shutter button, straps, etc for sale. I wish I could have more time to create better contents, but the not so stable PX films did gave me a few hiccups. Anyway, I'm glad we have good support from the community, I can't wait for next week's talk in City University.
I will be updating more photos of this event to the Flickr set Instant Reborn 2010, stay tuned.

Nottingham Old Town Square, as captured on 5x4 inch instant film (Fuji, not Polaroid, but essentially the same stuff).
The view is from the big old council chamber building. This was taken on the UK Flickrmeet #3 and we had special access. Frenchyphil caught me taking it and nilexuk was behind the camera with me

A 36 degree hot Sunday stroll to grandma's place, Shu Long's face turned red and became quiet under the heat. Luckily he got to wear my old Oakley sunglass, it was new to him though. Took this very colorful polaroid using SX-70 Sonar Autofocus and 779 color film. The film is advertised as "a professional, high-speed, medium-contrast film for high-defition instant color prints", boring buzz words, however I can really see the difference out of the combination of 70% visual clues and 30% psychological presupposition . Compared with 600 film chemistry, "779 film has superior color performance, sharper images, and better overall exposure performance for professional use. Dentists, insurance agents, and law enforcement professional use 779 film for instant photographic documentation". Gee, I got better use than all these - to capture that Sunday instance of my lovely son.
This is really priceless. Time flies and it is like magic, suddenly he is 2.5 years old and the dam broke, he started to ask "what is this?" (咩嚟㗎) dozens of times last night and each time before I could answer he already came up with new objects to point to. He can now recognize Mini Cooper, Mercedes Benz and Toyota on the street, in magazines and TV unmistakably (even though I'm not a big fan of cars, he somehow fell in love with them). Last week or two I bought him a 1:16 remote control Hong Kong taxi coz he'd been flipping though Toys'rus catalog and kept coming back to that corner of a page. The instant he unwrapped the box and took the taxi out, he said "Why no Toyota?" (點解冇Toyota?) Isn't that amazing?! He could recognize such a difference that the toy taxi has no Toyota logo on it! He is probably a detail minded person and it will be my challenge to help him to make good use of it.

I imagine her feeling as I felt during the Sigur Rós show in Berkeley last Friday during this song. (I was about four rows in front of the person shooting the video)
Such tingly chills zipped throughout. It was beyond description. It was beyond wonderful.
$0.89 Instant Ramen is even cheaper at 40% off! :D
The local, just-down-the-street supermarket that I've shopped at for all of my 28 years is going out of business at the end of the year, after switching hands 3 times in a matter of months. Probably a victim of the new Super Wal*Mart. :(
It's a sad thing. So I went this morning (40% off everything!!!) and said goodbye to some of the long time employees and took some pictures, since rumour has it the place is going to be a warehouse. :-|
When I was a baby, I believe it was a Foodland. Then there was a big fire, and it became vacant for a time. It reopened as Apple's, and remained so for most of my childhood. As a teenager, it became Bilo. Recently, Bilo became Shop N' Save, but then Shop N' Save became Foodland again. I think it was always under the "Friedman's" name, since they celebrated their 100th anniversary a while ago.
Very sad. 40 something vintage grocery store pics are on the way.
Mostly I'm ticked I can't walk to the grocery store any more. Yuck.
