I took this photo last year, during the freak massive snow storm that hit Portland around Christmas time. There's a winter wonderland right behind me when I took this shot.

Fuji Instax instant film stuffed into a Holga.
Lit by the modelling lamps on two Profoto D1s. The one in front is through a 3' octa; the one behind is bare and aimed at my head.
I had to unload the film from the Instax and load it into the Holga in a dark bag so that no light ruined it. After taking the photo, I had to load the film back into the cartridge and put it back into the Instax, again in the dark. This was so that it could be fed through the camera's rollers, which are the things that spread the developin' chemicals around. Basically, that is how the magic happens.
Bit dark! Ahh well, it's an experiment. The white edge came from the film mask blocking some of the instaxiness.
Oh and I think it went through the rollers face down. Meh.

For those of you who think that Polaroid beat Kodak at its own game (that is, making cheapo plastic cameras for dumbs), you should take a look at Kodak instant cameras. Kodak made it again: a camera still more low-end than even a Polaroid 600. Even more anti-ergonomical than a Polaroid. Gratz, Kodak.
You know, yester I was looking at Ansel's 'The camera'. Funny thing: in an entire chapter dedicated to instant photography, where ole Ansel praised the virtues of Polaroid pro cameras and films, there were only two lines about Kodak instant system. He, or whoever wrote the book for him, only said about it that it was aimed at amateurs and that he had not tried it. At least, if guys there in Rochester had shown Ansel the color of money Kodak instant system would have had a few more lines in 'The camera'. Who knows if we could even have quoted a beautiful epitaph from the book. Tsk tsk. Very ugly thing from you, Ansel, taking into account that your first pics of the Half Dome were shot with a Brownie. Damn good pics, tho...

Smaller than an average playing card! The instant back to my camera turns it into a fucking beast of a thing, heavy and clunky and I just love looking at it. The photos are excellent, I can never get over how much detail gets packed into such a tiny shot. I dig miniature anyway.

Instant Reborn event started 2 days ago and quite a crowd gathered on this sunny Saturday afternoon in the store. I felt happy seeing familiar faces who were in our event 2 years ago, lingering around chit chatting with each other.
Interestingly camera people usually have quite decent stamping etiquette, not like those who make quite a mess stamping on the table and wasting so much postcards without reading instructions on the how-to.
The passport book is so much fun and from what I heard, many like the idea and decided to own one at HK$25.
Polaroid collector TM refurbished some 636 cameras and painted them black and white, added "Instant Reborn" face plates, there you go, a limited edition "Instant Reborn" camera for the event, at this stage only 10 pieces are available. A leather/camera/watch fanatic Jemmer helped to add a leather strap too. It also came with a nice cotton bag and is sold at HK$1395 with a free pack of PX-600 film.
I did sold an SX-70 and a few pack of films myself today to a lady who is going to give this as a gift to her husband. I forgot to ask her to take a picture with Dr. Land though, people from the community did this naturally and one of them looks very much alike Dr. Land :)
BTW, Mijonju came all the way from Tokyo to this event, I bet he will be having a lot of fun going through TM's camera collections tomorrow in a private appointment.
Although the exhibiting items are not as jam packed as in 2008, we do have some polaroid T-shirts, poster, SX-70 shutter button, straps, etc for sale. I wish I could have more time to create better contents, but the not so stable PX films did gave me a few hiccups. Anyway, I'm glad we have good support from the community, I can't wait for next week's talk in City University.
