Hundreds of soldiers, civilians, family members and friends gathered at the Iron Mike Conference Center Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. for the 29th Annual Fort Bragg Installation Awards. The theme for the event was 29 Years of “Going the Extra Mile.”
As installation of the nativity window nears completion coloured light plays upon the adjoining altar wall for the first time.
The impressive 1950s Roman Catholic church of Christ the King in Kingstanding, one of Birmingham's northern suburbs is a church I have got to know well as a result of my latest stained glass project, to design and make two large three-light windows flanking the sanctuary, the first of which was installed in the last 2 days (march 7th / 8th 2011).
The church is a large brick building which originally had a rather spartan, barn-like interior as a result of it's brick finish, but thanks to the initiative of Fr Michael White the interior has been recently transformed and much improved by a more sympathetic plaster finish, which has lightened the interior since 2007. Another more recent developement is the church's new community centre constructed in 2009 which is now joined to the main facade on Warren Farm Road.
The church contains some fine examples of stained glass from the 1950s and 60s, principally the liturgical west window in the facade which features a bold Christ in majesty flanked by angels on a vibrant background. Glass of a similar date and style is situated in three of the side chapels and spaces that flank the main nave with busts of the Virgin & Child, St Theresa of Lisieux and St John. A smaller 1980s panel of St John the Baptist,by Tony Naylor for Norgrove Studios, was recently moved from the 'west' end to the new community hall extension.
The 'east' wall by contrast has no windows, just a flat wall with a wooden Crucifix at it's centre. My new window of the Nativity has just been installed immediately to the right, to be complimented by a Creation themed window on the corresponding position to the left.

Installation of my latest project, a sequence of painted panels to adorn the Altar wall at English Martyrs Catholic church in Hillmorton, Rugby. All credit here to my sister Elspeth for taking these photos which record the moment so well.
The subject is the English Martyrs, since previously there had been no depiction of them in the church. Given the large number of Catholic martyrs during and after the Reformation I chose to portray them in procession descending towards the altar around the already existing Resurrected Christ (which we moved higher up the wall). The two central groups of figures are more recognisable/better known martyrs led by St Thomas More and St John Fisher.

The "Radialign" laser alignment device ensures refractory is installed perpendicular to the axis of the kiln. The use of the Radialign prevents errors from being made due to manual measurement from distorted or worn away weld seams.

A commission I had, to design and make free-standing hardware for a permanent, interactive sound installation for Cleethorpes Academy, North East Lincolnshire, UK.
The hardware consists of 6 infra-red sensor units and 1 lectern that houses an iPad.
The sensor units pick up and track movement. This is all linked to special iPad software created by David Stevens and Simon Desorgher.
The equipment will predominantly be used to aid music and sound lessons and performances. The interactive system is great for children, as they don’t need dexterity in order to get involved and play with sound.

Never really a fun time, but always nice once it's done. Again the music is an unfinished sing I did a long time ago.
In late November 2015, an “unprecedented deployment” of instruments from the second ARM Mobile Facility (AMF2) were installed at McMurdo Station for the ARM West Antarctic Radiation Experiment (AWARE) field campaign. These data will help scientists to understand how clouds affect melting glaciers.
