We have now arrived at the south-west point, where we see the horrors when the sea is given free rein.
We see the remnants of the once mighty drift dike that was built in 1950, but has been swept away by storms since the Dutch State finished maintenance work on the sea defenses in 1991.
The basis of this drift dike consisted of construction rubble that was covered with the so called "Gobi mats", a large and huge nylon tarp that was weighted with concrete blocks that were glued to it.
The intention was that this drift dike would accelerate the formation of dunes at the south-west point over the years.
Due to the many and violent storms, these plans and attemps did not achive much and the dike was finally completly destroyed by the raging sea and all that remains are the gigantic nylon mats and the concrete blocks.
The contrast with the beautiful east side of Rottumeroog is in stark constrast to the rough and destroyed west side, where the sea can go its destructive way unhindered.
In this place the immense power of the sea becomes visable and you feel insignifcant towards it....
Behind the numbers, this is what frigid looks like. The truly cold winter weather always arising with a high bringing bright sunny skies with insignificant clouds if any. Without wind and with adequate clothing, a brief venture outside is still possible...with emphasis on the word "brief." Here, a shot from the road leading from my house shows that we still don't have a lot of snow, but a storm is in the forecast following several more days in the deep freeze with even colder temps predicted for the weekend. And winter has not even officially arrived yet...

I was sitting in the train and approaching center of Helsinki, lazily looking out of the window... It was a typical cloudy October day in Finland, but when just few minutes were left until the train would stop, I noticed almost an surreal view. On the park hill under colorful autumn trees appeared figures of few horses that looked like just stepped out of an epic movie, and it took a while until I believed they were real. All other plans immediately became insignificant, I had to postpone everything else but seeing those horses. So after leaving the train I turned to the opposite direction and walked back towards the park. Yes, the horses indeed were real, very real... Not far from there was a huge travelling circus tent, and between the shows they let the horses graze in the closest green area. What a wonderful view it was!
I took a good set of photos, and one of horses even managed to negotiate my lunch apple as a compensation for its photo session. The only disappointment was my camera. When I returned home it went on strike and stubbornly continues it. I even don't know what it is striking against...
Do I detect a smile on its face? A smiley bee, whatever next?
I think the picture is at its best when viewed from a distance.
So, lean back and zoom right in while in lightbox and on full screen, of course!
★ Food for thought :
The bee is fast becoming an endangered species in many parts of the world. In France, the newly arrived Asian hornet is just another nail in the coffin. Without the bee, we too could well become an endangered species! :-(( - Love thy neighbour and thy bee however small and insignificant it may appear to be.
"If the Bee Disappeared Off the Face of the Earth, Man Would Only Have Four Years Left To Live" - Albert Einstein
God slay the Asian queens and save our noble bees!
(ironically, to the tune of "God Save the Queen")

“To hear never-heard sounds,
To see never-seen colors and shapes,
To try to understand the imperceptible
Power pervading the world;
To fly and find pure ethereal substances
That are not of matter
But of that invisible soul pervading reality.
To hear another soul and to whisper to another soul;
To be a lantern in the darkness
Or an umbrella in a stormy day;
To feel much more than know.
To be the eyes of an eagle, slope of a mountain;
To be a wave understanding the influence of the moon;
To be a tree and read the memory of the leaves;
To be an insignificant pedestrian on the streets
Of crazy cities watching, watching, and watching.
To be a smile on the face of a woman
And shine in her memory
As a moment saved without planning.”

Who are we?
We find that we live
On an insignificant planet
Of a humdrum
Star lost in a galaxy
Tucked away in
Some forgotten corner
Of a universe in which
There are far more galaxies
Than people.
When we look up, it widens our horizons. we see what a little speck we are in the universe, so insignificant, and we all take ourselves so seriously, but in the sky, there are no boundaries. No differences of caste or religion or race.

The wisdom of mountains is that they show us how truly insignificant and small we are.

Taken at Gaustatoppen in Norway. This mountain have the widest view in Norway. On a clear day you can see 1/6 of Norways mainland from the top of the mountain, 1883 meter above sea level.
Footnote: Norways coast line is 20 000 km long. 10% longer than the coastline of USA. The country as such is 1 600 km.
Thank you for visiting!

Back at the Fairy Forest of Fanal. Today without a forest but with a fairytale pond very close by. Well, maybe the water should be blue and not brown and the fences should go. But apart from these two insignificant details, this place radiates something very mystical. I wouldn't be very surprised if a mythical creature suddenly came out from behind the tree or a little elf floated over the water. If I were shooting a fairy tale film, it would be an almost perfect setting.
I can think of several scenes that could take place here (perhaps you too?) That's why I'll stop writing now, otherwise I'll never get out of this picture again.

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”

Staubbach Fall
" The Staubbach Fall (German: Staubbachfall (sing.), lit.: dust creek fall) is a waterfall in Switzerland, located just west above Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Highlands. The waterfall drops 297 metres (974 ft) from a hanging valley that ends in overhanging cliffs above the Weisse Lütschine.
The stream, on reaching the verge of the rocky walls of the valley, forms a cascade so high that it is almost lost in spray before it reaches the level of the valley. After rain, and early in the season when fed by the melting snows, the Staubbach Fall is a very striking object. The force of the stream above the fall at such times is sufficient to carry the water clear of the precipice, and the whole mass descends in a condition of liquid dust, between spray and cloud, that sways to-and-fro with the gentlest breeze. In a dry summer, when the supply of water is much reduced, the effect is comparatively insignificant.
The falls were featured on the Swiss 3-centime postage stamp of the 1930s.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was inspired in 1779 on his second trip to Switzerland from Staubbachfall and wrote there his song of the spirits over the waters [2] :
Man's soul
Is like the water:
From heaven comes,
To heaven it rises,
And down again
To the earth it must,
Eternally changing.
Flows from the high,
steep rock face
The pure ray,
Then it dusts sweetly
In cloud waves
To the smooth rock,
And easily received, It
Walling veiling,
Leisrauschend down
to the depth.
If cliffs loom
The fall contrary,
it foams angrily
Gradually
the abyss.
In the shallow bed he
creeps down the valley of the meadow,
And in the smooth lake
her countenance graze
All the stars.
Wind is the wave
Lovely lover;
Wind mixes from the bottom
. Foaming waves.
Soul of man,
how are you like the water!
Fate of man,
how are you like the wind!

But eternally grateful.

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a black and white day at Color my world Daily and we celebrate Sliders Sunday.
My weekend was super busy but very cool !! It was almost back to pre-pandemic era normal ! We had lots of kids over (my sons’s friends), my parents came and we had a power shortage !! I know that putting two exclamations points after a « power shortage » makes it feel like something very positive but in the end it was ! We had a BBQ with candles and lots of gin and tonic. It is hot as hell in Montreal right now so spending a night without AC was truly difficult but luckily for us the electricity came back just in time.
Today is my running day so I feel like this egg: I’m set free to go ! Since it is very hot, I will run inside. So far I did 295,2km this month and I hope I will get me badge (I know it is very insignificant but I have a very addictive personality !!) and be able to get to 400km until the end of this month…
Once again, with the power being out for more than 3 hours, I didn’t had the time to answer your comments. I will catch up as soon as possible…
Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! And see you soon !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !
Even the wicked brambles have their own beauty in the universe, illuminated by magnificent clouds, "hope springs eternal".

Uttakleiv beach on the Lofoten islands being the stage of an absolutely fascinating weather scenario. Just standing there by the shore and watching this spectacle makes one feeling very tiny and insignificant
Prowling earlier this week armed with a macro lens, I came across some insignificant looking pale green patches on the wooden handrail of a bridge crossing some water. Lichen. The individual growths were only maybe 3mm across at most but the macro lens showed them as delicately structured entities of a different world.
It's probably greenshield lichen, some living some gone. All lichen are a symbiotic (some say parasitic) combination of fungus and cyanobacteria.
Bologna is worth a visit. Eight years ago, Bologna's large main square, the Piazza Maggiore, was insignificant in terms of tourism, but today it is full of people. Yesterday morning, the square was fortunately still empty, except for the juggler who lifted giant soap bubbles into the air.
The Word of the Spirit of God Do You Know? God Has Done a Great Thing Among Men"
Almighty God says, "This time, God comes to do work not in a spiritual body but in a very ordinary one. Not only is it the body of God’s second incarnation, but also the body in which God returns. It is a very ordinary flesh. In Him, you cannot see anything that is different from others, but you can receive from Him the truths you have never heard before. This insignificant flesh is the embodiment of all the words of truth from God, that which undertakes God’s work in the last days, and an expression of the whole of God’s disposition for man to come to know. Did you not desire greatly to see the God in heaven? Did you not desire greatly to understand the God in heaven? Did you not desire greatly to see the destination of mankind? He will tell you all these untold secrets, and He will even tell you of the truths that you do not understand. He is your gate into the kingdom, and your guide into the new age."

One can't help but feel totally humbled and insignificant when standing in the presence of the grandiosity of nature. Northern Lights are one of those aspects that are capable to instill us with awe and wonder and I am utterly grateful for every such moment I have been able to experience.

Taken from the top of the lighthouse (The Eierland Lighthouse) on the northernmost tip of the Dutch island of Texel.
With its 30 kilometres of sandy beaches, Texel island is a paradise for beach lovers. Texel has much more to offer, however: seven villages – each one pretty as a picture – and unique natural scenery. Moreover, Texel is within easy and quick reach. Starting in Den Helder, the veerboot takes just twenty minutes to sail to the island!

RESISTANCE
They chose the resistance
Facing furious winds,
Facing the threatening sea,
Facing the ravages of passing time,
Faced with the exodus of those who inhabited them and gave them life once.
They are small fishing villages, scattered by the hundreds along the coast
Some have emptied their lives, leaving only sparse traces,
Others have found the strength to resist, somehow...
In this cruel logic of modernity, there are losers and... survivors;
They resist as do these insignificant grains of sand jostled by the tides
Ingrained deeply in the hearts of those who inhabited them,
Inlaid in the soul and human history
Like those protective havens that sailors always found instinctively, even in bad weather
They chose the resistance
They chose persistence.
