A female Spreadwing damselfly (Lestes species) inserting her eggs in a plant stem. This plant is growing in a dry pond bed. When the pond fills with water the larvae will hatch from the egg and fall into the water to develop. Smith Farm, Maryland

I believe this is a female black-winged damselfly. Very common along streams and ponds during the summer months.

On a cold and windy day, insects were hunkered in sheltered places, like this very lethargic daddy long legs, hunkered in a geranium leaf.
