This mantis entered our sitting room last night so I put him under a light and took some closeups.

Have not made an attempt to classify this species. It is a rather large insect, body size approx 2 cm. Insect-on-glass-111014(1)

Red Headed Cardinal Beetle. Stapleford Herts.

Bark fly on a leaf (psocid)

Plant bug on water barrel. Focus stacked using zerene. I think it's Capsus ater

(Par Vincent). Guêpe.

My wife found this wasp crawling out from under the back of my shirt after I finished cooking on the grill. It must have been trying to get warm.

 

Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F11, 1/250, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-24EX. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I used a artificial flower to keep the background from being black.

Dance fly hanging around on a grass blade. Spotted this when I was doing a dewdrop refraction the other morning. Focus stacked using zerene

Found at Swamplovers Nature Preserve in southern Wisconsin. Dane County, Wisconsin, USA.

 

Found on small sapling in mixed hardwood forest.

 

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
