These Rainbow Bee-eaters (Merops ornatus) are on the watch for crunchy insects to snack on. They are widespread throughout Australia.

Bee and Butterflies feeding on bird feeders . but i put fruit in the centre then covered it with honeyed water, it is understood the insects are suffering in this hot weather, they are drowning in bird baths looking for a drink so this is my answer, i hope you find this idea useful, i also i have used a plastic egg cup,

About two inches long and climbing up a mustard stem to eat the flower. It's head is at the top with two small black eyes facing toward the camera.

(I added a 20mm extension tube to get close.)

When I was a kid in the early 1970s, Off! insect repellent was one of the smells of summer. The commercials featured a man sticking his arm into a clear box filled with mosquitoes and would get attacked by dozens of them. Then he'd pull it out and spray it with Off! then stick it back in, and the voiceover would say, "Bugs don't bite, they don't even light." It was available "in spray or foam." We almost always got the spray but my dad got the foam once. A product of Johnson Wax.

macro in insects

None of the flies (or other insects) in my photos are frozen or dead. None have been manually 'posed'. All are photographed alive and well in their natural environment, unless they are being killed or eaten by another insect in the photo.
