At the start of the year i wanted to experiment with a medium that i had not experienced with before which turned out to be ink. Loosely based from my visit to a forest my art pieces where a reflection of how i felt in the forest and the visual i created from it. I fell in love with the way that ink dripped downwards like black water or blood that brings life to the object of your focus. I wanted to add a personal touch to the artwork by using my handprint; everyones hand print is unique and mine just so with my dislocated thumb in each print. Eventually i went back to my inspration from the woods and personified a illustrated picture using ink and watercolours.

While out on my morning walk, I pass by this bare tree. The branches were pretty interesting. They remind me of an abstract drawing or ink blots.

These ancient cans of litho ink sit in a corner of the studio shelf; nobody uses them but nobody will throw them away either. There are five different Handschy label designs represented here. I thought it was pretty funny that one can is dated 1984 (older than some of my colleagues) until I saw the ones dated 1971 (older than me!). A few have never even been used.

With all the colours that the printmakers workshop has on offer, why do I only ever print in black or blue?

Explanation

Apparently the young woman was going to write a paper for her high-school English class about her experience selling the wrapped books. She said she really wanted people not to judge the books by their covers; I just thought it was a fun idea.

If I saw her again, the feedback I'd provide would be: please don't tape the paper to the book, and figure out a way to keep the ink from bleeding through the paper and staining the books.

These will gradually be registered, perhaps read, and released.
