These three domed beads are made using Maggie Maggio's watercolor technique. I pulled out my Rapidograph pen that has a very fine points (0.35 and 0.5 mm) and used black India drawing ink to draw these designs.
Scratches on the table...
breaking up my pen strokes...
I take another drag of my smoke...
another drink from the bottle, that I once broke...
All the words are stirring in my head...
but there's trouble translating them to hand...
Like the time I tried to write you a message in the sand...
and waves kept washing it away...
like they knew what I was really trying to say...
I put everything out on the cluttered surface...
making a mess of the mess,
and I guess
you could say I'm giving you all my kryptonite...
with all those talks, that went late into the night...
we know who's gonna win this fight...
I bared my chest...
prepared for plunging swords...
and lashes from whips...
And still I remember the last words,
repeating from your lips...
as I tried to pull you back by running fingertips...
down your hips...
across your lips...
I don't believe that sincerity,
is measured by the number of words that are written...
or the number of pages turned since I've been here sittin'...
Maybe instead...
it's measured by the pressure,
that I'm putting on the pen...
And now...
...pain drips promises on my words...
...ink blooms appear where I've signed my name...
and now I know,
that this will never be the same...

Horimyo is one of the last irezumi artists in Japan to exclusively use the tebori (hand-inking) technique. He bases his designs on religious imagery (he is a devout Buddhist) and Ukiyo-e illustrations.

my new friend i met at the beach this weekend. i think i could live the life of a beach cat .... ink made friends easily and made you feel welcome at his home by the sea.
Ink smooshing is a really fun and easy technique and was a great way to create a background for these cute dolphins from the @ClearlyBesotted new Make A Splash set. 🐬

Number 2 is more in an Oriental style, following the techniques of the great contemporary artist, Gao Xingjian, whom I admire greatly.
Original is 8x11 inches.
These little flowers in front of this barbed wire fence are used to create red dye by Peruvians. They use the dye on fibers that will eventually be spun into yarn, and transpformed into beautiful, colorful clothes.

...the ultimate accessory for use
in the search of artistic insight and enlightenment.
Also, it
doubles as another example
to inspire the students in my watercolor mandala
workshop here in Arizona
coming up March 1st.
Watercolor was applied first...patterns and shapes
drawn last...ink straight in...
no lead...:)
