The Mercedes-Benz 300SL was introduced in 1954 as a two-seat, closed sports car with distinctive gull-wing doors. Later it was offered as an open roadster. It was the fastest production car of its day.

Built by Daimler-Benz AG and internally numbered W198, the fuel-injected road version was based (somewhat loosely) on the company's highly successful competition-only sports car of 1952, the somewhat less powerful carbureted Mercedes-Benz 300SL (W194).

The road model was suggested by Max Hoffman. Being intended for customers in the booming post-war American market it was introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show, unlike previous models introduced at either the Frankfurt or Geneva shows. In Mercedes-Benz fashion, the "300" referred to the engine's three litre cylinder displacement. The "SL" stood for "Sport Leicht" (Sport Light).

The 300SL was best known for both its distinctive gull wing doors and being the first-ever four-stroke car equipped with a gasoline direct injection. The gull wing version was available from March 1955 to 1957. Production of the roadster ended in 1963 with the introduction of the 230SL.

In 1952, the original 300SL (model Mercedes-Benz W194) scored overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in Bern-Bremgarten, in the sportscar race of the Eifelrennen at the Nürburgring, and in Mexico's Carrera Panamericana. It also managed second and fourth places at its first outing, the Mille Miglia in 1952.

These successes, especially those on the high speed open road races, were rather surprising as the engine then was fitted only with carburetors, producing 175 hp (130 kW), which was not only less than the competing cars by Ferrari and Jaguar, but also less than the road car of 1954. Low weight and low aerodynamic drag made the 300SL fast enough to be competitive in endurance races.

Technique: I injected artificial nectar into an Eggplant flower so the bumblebee would have a reason to let me get close. I'm holding on to the flower's stem with my left index finger and thumb, and resting the lens on that same hand to keep everything steady. The color is due to the quality of the light (I didn't have to push the saturation in post).

Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F11, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens with 25mm of extension + a diffused MT-24EX (flash head "A" set as the key and "B" as the fill). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. Camera set so that I could use natural light to expose the sky in the background, with the short duration of the flash freezing subject motion.

Technique: I injected artificial nectar into a Lavender flower, and even though I was using bait it was still a difficult shot. Of all the bees in my yard this one is the most skittish.

Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F11, 1/250, ISO 400) + a Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens + a diffused MT-24EX (flash head "A" set as the key and "B" as the fill, both on the Canon flash mount). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. Camera set to expose the natural light in the background, with E-TTL flash metering exposing the subject.

Technique: I injected artificial nectar into some of my Lavender flowers, and when this Common Carder Bee took the bait I grabbed onto the flower's stem with my left hand to keep the scene steady. I then rested the lens on my hand and looked for a good angle, adjusting the plane of focus as the critter tried to avoid me and the camera. Lots of deleted frames...

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 200 with highlight tone priority) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (under 2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on the Canon flash mount, E-TTL metering with -1 2/3 FEC, and second curtain sync).

Injected with ink during development in shell and feather with the colour of the ink. As it grows, it shades of the baby feather and becomes a normal chicken.

This make it cute and colourful but appears to be some kind of sick science experiment. What if they do it on human?

FINALLY! After days of waiting it's finally arrived. My official bottle of Trump Medical Injectable Bleach! You know it's good when it features one of my favourite quotes from the big man himself "I'm not a doctor but i'm like a person that has good 'you know what" We know you do big fella. Trust us, we know.

In just the days it's taken to move from unsubstantiated claim into production they've even managed to cram in 'added heat and light' and we all know that can only be a good thing when combatting viruses. It even works in under a New York minute. Now that's speedy. Where's my hypodermic? If you want to use it after just let me know...

Cheers

Dilithium is a precious crystal used in tactical warp drives. It is semi-permeable to both deuterium and anti-deuterium, and provides a natural chamber for a controlled matter-antimatter reaction, focusing the energy so it can be harnessed and used for power.

Injected with radioactive isotopes, then scanned by these (and other) machines! Wheeeeee!

Probably not a fuel injected 283 originally. Just noticed no V on the hood, which should indicate an originally six cylinder car. This one won't win a trophy at this Hershey show.

Injecting a bit of colour to a overcast day.

Technique: Injected artificial nectar into a zucchini flower that I taped to a leaf. I was shading the subject, and the sun was behind the clouds, so there is no natural light on the bee in this frame.

20/52 Something You Dislike

There is something that everyone dislikes whether it is doing the laundry for the 30 millionth time, the sound of a baby crying, inconsiderate smokers or the daily commute. We are pretty sure that you will not have to think for very long to think of something!

This is however an ideal challenge to tell a story with your photo. Are any senses shown in the photo? Why do the viewers realize that your photo show something that you dislike? Maybe it is something universal that we all dislike or maybe they can see the reason in your photo.

This is once again a theme that is barn-door wide open for personal interpretation. It could be a thing or a place or an action or a situation. Please be as creative as you want and surprise us with a large variety of the things that you love to hate!
