They ambush their prey, usually other insects such as beetles or caterpillars, piercing them with their curved mouthparts (rostrum). Once the prey has been punctured and is held fast, the assassin injects a powerful saliva. This fluid immobilises the prey and dissolves its tissues."

"If you're walking in the woods, you're probably going to get more annoyed by a loud, screeching bird call than a soft, complex birdsong. But dark-eyed juncos are just the opposite. These birds will find and fight their soft-singing peers.
Now, lest we think of dark-eyed juncos as simply the philistines of the animal kingdom who go about brawling with any bird that inject a little creativity into its birdsong - which, I'll admit, is a most entertaining thought - there's a more straightforward logic at play here. As with most things, it's all about mating and reproduction.
Males juncos will let out a loud, boisterous call when they're asserting their territory, but they'll favor a softer, more melodic song when they're trying to attract a mate. Researchers at Indiana University found that, when they played these two different songs for some male juncos, the birds completely ignored the loud song but actively searched for whoever was making the softer call.
In the wild, any male junco that goes hunting for the fellow junco behind that song is basically looking for a fight. It appears the birds are far more interested in maintaining their access to potential mates than they are protecting their territorial claims. They may not be philistines, then, but it does appear the juncos care far more about sex than land...which I suppose, as these things go, it's a fairly sensible decision."

How wonderfully civil; melt in the mouth butter shortbreads waiting to be eaten 'neath the Christmas tree, accompanied by a nice cup of tea.
I make butter shortbreads each year for family and friends for Christmas as a gift. What started as a small offering has now become almost too much for me as word spread, and requests came in. Since I started working part-time, it makes it a little easier. I have to set aside a whole weekend at least which I devote just to the baking of Christmas fare in my little kitchen. So as my oven temperature increases, so does the volume on my stereo as I play a selection of my Christmas albums whilst I bake.
This year I made ten trays of shortbread biscuits, so around one hundred and fifty shortbread biscuits, made with a recipe almost one hundred years old, each injected with just a bit of love to the recipients.

The female Banded Demoiselle lays her eggs which can be up to 10 eggs per minute for 45 minutes at a time by injecting them into the stems of plants which are under the surface of the water, the eggs hatch in about two weeks and the larvae take two years to develop and they over winter in the mud at the bottom of the water, they are very sensitive to pollution therefore they are a good indicator of clean water.

Also I'm really happy how the solarization turned out, it's a pretty hard darkroom technique.

All-in-all, this past week has been a bit rubbish, heartbreakingly traumatic funeral, follow-up hospital visit after surgery on my foot (thanks, chemo) and a healthy dose of poison via canula. I am grateful that this weird drug has been invented and that I'm able to have it, so many in the United Kingdom are denied this treatment because they're caught up in the post code lottery, but it's still tough having it. I am achy in my bones and really longing for a chilled glass of wine, but we don't have any in the house so it'll be a long longing...
Oh what fun we had, you can see by the look on Seth's face, this is the technical bit !!!!!

Plus de monde que la première fois, mais ambiance difficile. Quand plusieurs évoquent des effets secondaires importants, les soignants présents minimisent, protestent. Et en même temps, les pompiers distribuent des papiers pour une enquête justement sur les effets secondaires notoires du vaccin.
Paradoxe.
Certains citoyens, les plus âgés, viennent déjà pour une troisième dose, presque résignés. Quelques uns évoquent des souvenirs de morts infantiles familiales pour se rassurer, parlent de guerre...
Pour moi, c'est surréaliste.
Je ne sais pas où nous allons, mais je ne peux que constater la violence, l'arbitraire qui accompagnent le vocabulaire en lien avec l'obligation vaccinale actuelle.
