In the summer of 1982 the train drivers union decided they wanted to help ensure the re-election of a Conservative Government and so called their drivers out on indefinite strike over the issue of 'flexible rostering'. The strike collapsed after a couple of weeks and we've hardly heard a peep out of ASLEF since. Up to then they had been regularly using me as a bargaining chip in their disputes, making my journey to and from work extremely arduous.
Meanwhile, National Express and others made hay while the sun shone. Anything with wheels was pressed into service and Victoria Coach Station in London, and the streets around it, was a scene of pandemonium.
Moby Dick is my favorite American novel, and Melville inspires my landscape and seascape photography! “But as in landlessness alone resides the highest truth, shoreless, indefinite as God - so better is it to perish in that howling infinite, than be ingloriously dashed upon the lee, even if that were safety! For worm-like, then, oh! who would craven crawl to land!” ― Herman Melville, Moby Dick

NOTE: This was reuploaded on 3/29/2017 after I realized that I had foolishly deleted the original image from Flickr when I accidentally turned on auto-upload on my phone and freaked out when I saw all my phone pictures on Flickr (although this really wasn't the case). This was unfortunately caught in the mass-deletion crossfire.
Out and about in the snowy countryside a few days back with my friend and birthday buddy Jim we came upon a field of corn sprinkled with cows and one huge bull! Trying our hand at capturing the bovines in the corn proved fruitless. We watched them weave their way through the stalks and captured them as they emerged. Jim caught one kicking up his *heels* and I hope he posts that shot.
Best viewed in lightbox ... press "L" ... hopefully that will whiten up the shot which has managed to change hue when posted to flickr ... go figure !!
Origin
The meaning of this popular idiom is: for a long but indefinite time. Cows are notoriously languid creatures and make their way home at their own unhurried pace. That's certainly the imagery behind 'till the cows come home' or 'until the cows come home', but the precise time and place of the coining of this colloquial phrase isn't known. It was certainly before 1829 though, and may well have been in Scotland. The phrase appeared in print in The Times in January that year, when the paper reported a suggestion of what the Duke of Wellington should do if he wanted to maintain a place as a minister in Peel's cabinet:
"If the Duke will but do what he unquestionably can do, and propose a Catholic Bill with securities, he may be Minister, as they say in Scotland "until the cows come home."
Groucho Marx was never one to pass up an opportunity for a play on words and this occurs in his dialogue of the 1933 film Duck Soup:
"I could dance with you till the cows come home. Better still, I'll dance with the cows and you come home."

From Wikipedia : "This work by the Florentine artist Baccio Bandinelli (1525–1534) was commissioned as a pendant to Michelangelo's David, which had been commissioned by the republican council of Florence, under Piero Soderini (gonfaloniere for life), to commemorate the victory over the Medici.
The colossus (height: 5.05 m) was originally given to the Medici family and meant to complement the David but later appropriated by Michaelangelo as a symbol of his renewed power after his return from exile in 1512, and again in 1530.......
Here, the demi-god Hercules, who killed the fire-belching monster Cacus during his tenth labor for stealing cattle, is the symbol of physical strength, which juxtaposed nicely with David as a symbol of spiritual strength, both symbols desired by the Medici. This marble group shows the basic theme of the victor (the Medici) and the vanquished (the republicans). The pause suggests the leniency of the Medici to those who would concede to their rule, and served as a warning to those who would not, as this pause can be indefinite or simply temporary."

I thought that the contrast between this trio of ancient wooden wheels and the general chaos behind them made a nice composition. "Triptych" seemed an age-approriate caption. The wheels and the other objects shown here are in what one can call "indefinite long-term outdoor storage."

A rare photo of the Nipigon River Suspension Bridge with not one of the 1000s of vehicles that pass over it daily at the only road crossing in Canada between Atlantic and Pacific on or near it.
Underneath runs a huge amount of water in the narrowest part of the river that is the largest Tributary to Lake Superior.
A steel deck truss road bridge was built at the site in 1937,[3] parallel to an existing Canadian Pacific Railway bridge.
In 1974, the original bridge was replaced with a steel plate girder structure. The 1974 bridge was rehabilitated in the mid-2000s, which involved replacing the old Jersey-style concrete parapets with steel guardrail which offers a less obstructed view of the river, and adding a pedestrian walkway on the north side of the structure.[4][5] The 1974 bridge was demolished by Priestly Demolition from 2015-16, to make way for the second span of the new cable-stayed bridge (see below). The dismantling project won two honours at the 2016 World Demolition Awards, the Civils Demolition Award and the top prize which was the World Demolition Award, as "[i]t turns out that dismantling a bridge perched over icy waters in the midst of a northwestern Ontario winter is no easy matter".[6]
New bridge
A $106 million project to replace the 1974 bridge began in 2013 as part of a region-wide project to widen the Trans-Canada Highway to four lanes. The cable-stayed design for the twin bridges, with two parallel spans carrying four total lanes, was to be the first of its kind in Ontario. The future westbound bridge opened on November 29, 2015; both directions of traffic were shifted onto the new bridge to prepare the old span for demolition. The eastbound span was scheduled for completion in 2017.[7][8] The eastbound span was completed in 2018, and the bridge fully opened to 2 lanes of traffic in each direction at the end of November, 2018. [9]
Underneath the new cable stayed bridge, with the railway bridge in the background.
Closure of new bridge
Since the bridge is asymmetric, with a longer eastern span, the western side of the bridge must be held down to balance the tension in the main cables. That is done using three sliding bearings, which hold main deck girders down to the concrete abutment while allowing lengthwise motion to act as an expansion joint.
On January 10, 2016, the new bridge was closed to traffic after a winter storm after all 40 M22 (7⁄8 in) bolts attaching a main deck girder to the northwest bearing had failed, causing the deck to lift by 60 centimetres (24 in),[10] resulting in the indefinite closure of the Trans-Canada Highway at the bridge.[11][12][13] As the bridge is a single point of failure in Canada's National Highway System, its closure effectively required vehicles travelling between eastern and western Canada to detour through the United States.[11] The deputy mayor of Greenstone, 125 kilometres (78 mi) northeast of the bridge, declared a state of emergency for the municipality as a result of the closure.[13][14]
The bridge was partially reopened to traffic the following morning, after 17 hours of closure, using one lane alternating between directions. The Ministry of Transportation inspected the bridge for further damage and determined that it would be able to handle cars and regular-weight transport trucks in the interim. 200 metric tons (200 long tons; 220 short tons) of concrete Jersey barriers were placed to weigh down the deck.[15][16]
Among the several points on the Trans-Canada Highway with only one crossing, all of which are in Northwestern Ontario, the two-lane Nipigon River Bridge was the longest.[17] It was estimated that over $100 million of goods per day shipped within Canada by truck were delayed by the bridge closure.[18]
A temporary fix was performed, a hold-down support system securing the steel girders to the bridge structure with a hanger system.[19] The bridge fully reopened to one lane in each direction on February 25, 2016 although the exact cause of the failure was not fully known.
NIPIGON RIVER
The Nipigon River is located in Thunder Bay District in Northwestern Ontario, Canada.[4] The river is about 48 km (30 mi) long[1] (or 209 kilometres (130 mi) when measured to the head of Ombabika River[2]) and 50 to 200 m (160 to 660 ft) wide[citation needed], and flows from Lake Nipigon to Nipigon Bay on Lake Superior at the community of Red Rock, dropping from an elevation of 260 to 183 m (853 to 600 ft). It is the largest tributary of Lake Superior.[5]
Since 1943, 14,360 square kilometres (5,545 sq mi) of the Ogoki River basin has been diverted to the headwaters of the Little Jackfish River, a tributary of Lake Nipigon. This diversion increases the size of the river's watershed by almost 60% to 39,760 square kilometres (15,350 sq mi), and contributes an average of about 116 cubic metres per second (4,100 cu ft/s) to the Nipigon River.[6][7] This increased flow has caused significant erosion and landslides along the river.[5]

“In his every movement a man of great virtue
Follows the way and the way only.
As a thing the way is
Shadowy and indistinct.
Indistinct and shadowy,
Yet within it is an image;
Shadowy and indistinct,
Yet within it is a substance.
Dim and dark,
Yet within it is an essence.
This essence is quite genuine
And within it is something that can be tested.
From the present back to antiquity,
Its name never deserted it.
It serves as a means for inspecting the fathers of the multitude.
How do I know that the fathers of the multitude are like that?
By means of this."

Part of the set, Anthropology of Color.
"When a name for a color is absent from a language, it is usually blue. When a name for a color is indefinite, it is usually green. Ancient Hebrew, Welsh, Vietnamese, and, until recently, the Assyrians turned uknu, the noun for lapis lazuli, into an adjective. The Icelandicword for blue and black is the same, one word that fits sea, lava, and raven ... Goethe's blue is the color of enchanting nothingness.
It has been shown that the words for colors enter evolving languages in this order, nearly universally: black, white, and red, then yellow and green (in either order), with green covering blue until blue comes into itself. Once blue is acquired, it eclipses green. Once named, blue pushes green into a less definite version. Green confusion is manifest in turquoise, the is-it-blue-or-is-it-green color .... "

Tiger Woods is one of my respected and admired athletes.
And I have a confession to make. I watch golf if Tiger is playing. If not, I have no interest.
Shocked as his millions of fans around the globe, the story that dominated the news somehow tarnished his clean image not as the best golfer in the world but as a man and as a husband and father.
Sad to say he tried his best to cover his imperfection but failed. His money could not stop the desire of the public to know the truth.
His transgressions, his infidelity, his adultery finally became the talk of the town. A Tigerville is now part of our lives, whether we like it or not.
There's a saying that when you become a popular entity, you are owned by the public. That is the bad trade off for being a popular and rich individual like Tiger. That is a reality you cannot escape if you are famous and most especially, adored, by millions.
His sponsors are singing a different tune nowadays. Although Nike, his biggest commercial backer is sticking with him, AT&T and Gillette are staying away for now. How many more will leave Tiger? Update: Gatorade and Accenture are dumping him.
Life is really like a game. One day, you win. And the next day, you lose.
He announced yesterday that he is taking a break from professional golf to focus on repairing his relationship with his family.
I wish that he could recover. I hope he will be stable and will prove some people wrong that said he had suicidal tendencies.
I am imperfect. And so does everyone else. So, Tiger is just one of us.
Tiger, it is time to get out of that sand trap. It is still my wish for you to show up even with a bandaged face and speak to everyone rather than convey your feelings through your website. Be a Tiger again.
_______________
His TW on his cap could mean not Tiger Woods but Tiger's Women.
Tiger finally found out that there was another Tiger inside his house. More ferocious than him.
Tiger loves white women. I wonder why?
_______________
What Tiger said:
I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.
I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What's most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.
After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.
Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.

This was founded in 1862 to serve as a scientific research institution for the rapidly growing city of Melbourne, the capital of the colony of Victoria. The observatory was tasked by the Victorian government with maintaining an accurate time reference for the colony through observations of stars using a transit telescope as well as general astronomical research. The site chosen was a gentle hill adjacent to the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Shortly after founding a 48-inch telescope was installed at the observatory for astronomical research and for a while it was the largest fully steerable telescope in the world. This instrument was referred to as the "Great Melbourne Telescope".
In 1874 the observatory took part in the worldwide effort to observe the Transit of Venus in order to better determine the distance of Earth to the Sun. Towards the end of the 1880s the observatory took part in the international "Carte du Ciel" project to map the heavens using the-then novel technique of photography. Being the most southerly of the sites taking part, Melbourne was assigned the region around the south celestial pole south of declination -65°.
With the coming of federation in 1901 the Commonwealth government was assigned the responsibility for astronomy and time-keeping and control of the observatory was gradually handed over by the state government. At the same time, the encroaching light pollution from the growing city of Melbourne gradually made quality astronomical observations increasingly difficult.
In 1933 the flood-lit Shrine of Remembrance (from atop which this image was taken) was completed in the parkland adjacent to the observatory impacting its skies further, until the observatory was finally closed in 1945. Most of the scientific equipment and instruments, including the Great Melbourne Telescope, were sold or moved elsewhere.
Today, while most of the original buildings still stand on the site, only two of the original instruments remain. Both were installed in 1874 to observe the transit of Venus. One is an 8-inch refracting telescope by Troughton and Simms of London, and the other is a fully restored 4-inch Photoheliograph by Dallmeyer of London. The Photoheliograph is privately owned and on indefinite loan to the Astronomical Society of Victoria. The building which was used by the 13-inch astrograph telescope for the "Carte du Ciel" survey now houses a 12-inch Newtonian reflector telescope owned by the Astronomical Society of Victoria.
The Great Melbourne Telescope was eventually moved to the Mount Stromlo Observatory where it was badly damaged in the 2003 Canberra bushfires. Subsequently, a project has begun to restore the telescope to working order so that it may be used for educational and public viewing in its original home at the Melbourne Observatory. This is a joint undertaking of Museum Victoria, the Astronomical Society of Victoria and the Royal Botanic Gardens. The restoration project, which began in 2013, will incorporate bringing the telescope's optical, mechanical and electrical systems into line with current best practice.
I posted a monochrome version of this image some years ago.
Édouard Manet -
Flowers in a Crystal Vase [1882]
Washington NGoA
Édouard Manet (1832-1883) was a staunch city dweller all his life and strolled through the streets of Paris in elegant clothes every day. He felt himself to be part of bourgeois society and at the same time kept the necessary distance to thematize modern life in his paintings. Manet is particularly known as a painter of corresponding portraits and genre scenes.
The situation changed in 1879 when his syphilis disease broke out openly. Manet spent his last three summers in country houses near Paris to cure. In 1882 he was in Rueil on the Seine. Small-format still lifes were intended to distract him and finance his treatment. Therefore he painted various flower bouquets until shortly before his death.
For this purpose, Manet carefully arranged his bouquets in crystal vases on a marble base in the studio, thus capturing their stems with foliage. But here it is a particularly intimate one, a "handful" of white-rose, blue, and red-yellow flowers, so to speak. Reduced to the essentials, they seem to float ageless in front of an indefinite blue-gray background.
Power Girl, also known as Kara Zor-L and Karen Starr, is the Earth-Two counterpart of Supergirl and first cousin to Kal-L, the Superman of Earth-Two.
Journey from Krypton
After discovering Krypton was about to explode, Kara's father Zor-L launched her as an infant to Earth in a ship at the same time that Kal-L's ship was launched. However, Kara's ship took a much longer journey, resulting in her arriving on Earth decades after her cousin.
Power Girl's existence was not revealed to the general public until years after her arrival on Earth-Two. Her cousin Clark and his wife Lois provided her with a family environment that aided her transition from the virtual reality she had experienced during her voyage to real life relationships. She came to regard her cousin and his wife as her "uncle" and "aunt" for raising her on Earth-Two despite being cousins by blood and marriage. Lois Lane-Kent stated that they regarded her as their daughter.
In her first recorded case, Kara assisted Justice Society members Flash and Wildcat in containing an artificially induced volcano that had erupted in Peking, China. She then joined them and other young heroes Robin and Star-Spangled Kid to form a Super Squad, along with active members of the Justice Society, to defeat Brain Wave and Per Degaton's scheme for world domination. Later, she was granted full membership when she took over Superman's vacated spot on the team roster.
Having been raised by the Symbioship with artificial Kryptonian life experiences, Power Girl had trouble fitting into life on Earth, but with the help of reporter Andrew Vinson, she eventually adopted the secret identity of computer programmer Karen Starr. She developed her knowledge in this field from treatment under Wonder Woman's purple ray on Paradise Island. Outside of the Justice Society, she developed a close friendship with Helena Wayne, the daughter of the Earth-Two Batman and Catwoman and was later a founding member of Infinity, Inc.
Following the events of the original Crisis, Kara's background was completely altered. With Earth-Two no longer existing, Kara's origin could only be guessed at, and it was mistakenly thought that she was the granddaughter of the Atlantean sorcerer Arion and had been frozen in suspended animation for millennia until the present day.
In search of her origins, Kara traveled to Skartaris. During her journey, she met Jennifer Morgan whom she ended up considering like a sister. Eventually, the Fates called Kara back, claiming the surface needed her. It was with a broken heart she left the people she had grown to consider like her people.
After the Invasion, Kara joined Justice League Europe and was later badly injured by the second Gray Man suffering a significant loss of power. Despite this, she remained a key member of the team throughout its history, including the first encounter with the Extremists and the Overmaster.
Power Girl was recruited to be one of Oracle's first field agents. Their short-lived partnership ended in failure after a disastrous mission that resulted in a large loss of life. Power Girl believed that poor orders from Oracle were to blame for the tragedy and disliked Oracle intensely as a result (although she has worked with her again on a few occasions when needed.)
When Black Canary resigned from the JSA, she recommended Kara take her place, bringing Power Girl full circle back to the Justice Society of America.
During the events of Infinite Crisis, the Psycho-Pirate showed Kara multiple versions of her origin in an effort to drive her insane, but eventually revealed that she was not only Kryptonian but also a survivor of the entire Earth-Two universe.
Kal-L himself returned to the mainstream universe after breaking down the walls of the paradise dimension in which he, Lois Lane-Kent, Alexander Luthor, Jr., and Superboy-Prime had been living since the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Appalled by the rapidly-deteriorating state of affairs on the contemporary Earth, their goal was to replace the post-Crisis planet with a recreated Earth-Two.
Kal-L's first order of business was to track down Power Girl and explain the events of the original Crisis to her, as well as confirming Psycho Pirate's claims of her Earth-Two origin. Kara's memories of her Earth-Two life were restored to her when she was re-introduced to an ailing Lois Lane-Kent.
Soon after, Kara stumbled upon a machine in which the Martian Manhunter was held captive. Before she could free him, she was attacked by Superboy-Prime and attached to the machine alongside J'onn J'onzz. Alex Luthor then revealed his true ambition of restoring the multiverse using representatives of various Earths, with Kara selected because of her link to Earth-Two.
Kara was later freed by Wonder Girl and Kon-El and joined them in fighting Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor, Jr.. Superboy-Prime fled Earth for Mogo, pursued by the two Supermen whom he fought. During the fight, Kal-L was mortally wounded and Power Girl arrived on Mogo with the Green Lantern Corps just in time to bid a tearful farewell to her dying cousin.
Power Girl went on to help reform the Justice Society of America, where she was elected Chairperson of the team. She led the team through its dealings with the Superman of Earth-22 and the confrontation between the JSA and the super-being known as Gog. During that battle, Power Girl was sent by Gog to the parallel Earth known as Earth-2.
Thinking she had somehow returned to her home reality of Earth-Two, she sought to adapt to life there with the counterparts of her long dead (and historically erased) friends. However, she noticed several major differences from her reality, particularly in the actions of Helena Wayne, who was going to murder the Earth-2 Joker. When Earth-2's actual Power Girl returned, it became clear that this was not her home and she returned to the Justice Society.
Following a disagreement in operational methods, Power Girl and the younger members of the JSA split into the Justice Society of America All-Stars. At the same time, she began devoting more time to her old R&D firm, Starrware Labs in New York City. and became friends with the young superheroine Atlee aka Terra III, becoming something of a mentor to her.
While in New York, she defended the city from Ultra-Humanite, who tried to transfer his brain into her body. After his defeat, Kara was spared any major conflicts until Ultra-Humanite's ex-girlfriend Satanna tried to avenge his defeat. She nearly succeeded in killing Power Girl, but Atlee's intervention saved her life.
Ultra-Humanite eventually returned to fight Power Girl, this time having Satanna put his brain in Atlee's body. She was able to knock out Ultra-Humanite without seriously hurting her friend's body, then tracked down Satanna to force her to undo the damage. When that failed, she then took Atlee and Ultra-Humanite to Strata.
Atlee's brain as returned to her body, and Ultra-Humanite' brain was put into a clone, also curing him of his genetic disease at the same time. Later, Kara offered him a job, but he refused. Before having his memories erased, he revealed that he was still evil, and swore vengeance on Power Girl before having his memory wiped.
Following Blackest Night, Power Girl returned to duty with the Justice League in order to hunt down the resurrected Maxwell Lord. While in Moscow, Booster Gold ends destroying the Justice League International embassy, greatly upsetting Power Girl. She flew off to investigate the next lead provided by Batman alone, only to encounter OMACs. She fought them, but they shut down after Maxwell Lord activated a device that erased his identity from minds of everyone on Earth.
When she returned home, she found out that her financial officer and trusted friend Donna Anderson stole all of her company's money, leaving Starrware in bankruptcy. The bank and Kara's rival companies systematically took everything all of Starrware's creations.
She then encountered a mysterious cyborg called C.R.A.S.H that was programmed to level New York City. She managed to stop the cyborg, but before she was able to turn him in, Maxwell appeared and rescued C.R.A.S.H. It was also during this time that Nicholas Cho, an employer of Starrware, figured out Power Girl and Karen Starr were one in the same and threatened to expose her.
She manages to convince him otherwise and convinces him to serve as her partner. Power Girl then went to Batman to investigate both Maxwell Lord and Donna who stole from her company. Due to Maxwell's powers, though, they forgot about him once again. Focusing on finding Donna, they learned that she died of an apparent drug overdose. Not buying the facts, Kara traced a potential lead to Antarctica. Upon arrival, she fought Divine, a clone of her created by Maxwell Lord and Dr. Sivana. When Power Girl came close to winning, Maxwell appeared, stunning her and taking Divine away. After the encounter, Kara remembered who Maxwell Lord was.
Power Girl tried to convince the JSA and Batman about Lord and the threat he posed. However, during the meeting, another mind wipe causes them to forget about him once again. Power Girl then goes to Professor Ivo's new lab in Vietnam where he's revived, Project Cadmus.
Before she could shut it down, Maxwell stopped her and used his powers, to force her to kill the Justice League International. The JLI managed to snap her out of Maxwell's control and decides to join them in stopping him.
She then goes to dig up the corpse of Ted Kord to prove that he was murdered. When she takes the body to Batman to examine it, he initially refused, but after some convincing with Batman (the recently returned Bruce Wayne), the two examined the body to learn that Ted Kord was indeed killed by Lord.
Power Girl then joins Batman and the JLI in stopping Maxwell Lord. After Lord was defeated, Kara was able to restore her company and refocus it on using her creations to help the general public. Knowing that this would mean Karen Starr would have to enter the public spotlight, she puts some advice she received from Superman into action and begins putting more effort into managing her secret identity.
Powers
Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Power Girl possesses the same potential powers as an average Kryptonian. These include:
Solar Energy Absorption: Under optimal conditions, this is the main source of Power Girl's super powers as they are contingent upon exposure to solar radiation from a yellow sun star system.
Her biological make up includes a number of organs which lack analogues in humans and whose functions are unknown. It is believed that between one or more of these and her bio-cellular matrix, "yellow" solar energy is stored for later use. This allows for the use of these powers to fade when yellow solar radiation is not available instead of immediate failure.
Heat Vision: Power Girl can, as a conscious act, fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it. She can vary the heat and area affected.
Super-Hearing: Power Girl's hearing is sensitive enough to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. With skill and concentration, she can block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source or frequency.
Enhanced Vision: Power Girl's vision processes the entire electromagnetic spectrum as well as allowing vast control over selective perception and focus.
This umbrella ability includes the following:
Electromagnetic Spectrum
Vision: Power Girl can see well into most of the electromagnetic spectrum. She can see and identify radio and television signals as well as all other broadcast or transmitted frequencies. Using this ability, she can avoid detection by radar or satellite monitoring methods. This also allows her to see the aura generated by living thing.
Telescopic Vision: This is the ability to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. Though limited, the exact extent of the ability is undetermined. In function, it is similar to the zoom lens on a camera.
X-Ray Vision: This is the ability to see through any volume of matter except lead. Power Girls can see things behind a solid, opaque object as if it were not there. She can focus this ability to "peel back" layers of an object, allowing hidden image or inner workings to be observed.
The exact type of energy perceived—such as x-rays, cosmic rays, or some other energy invisible to normal humans—is unclear. This ability perceives an ambient energy source though, it does not involve the eye projecting a concentrated, possibly toxic, beam to be reflected back from objects.
Microscopic Vision: This is the ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the atomic level.
Infrared Vision: Power Girl can see with better acuity in darkness, and to a degree in total darkness.
Flight: Power Girl is able to manipulate graviton particles to defy the forces of gravity and achieve flight. This ranges from hovering to moving in any posture, in any direction.
Invulnerability: Due to the interaction of her dense molecular structure and supercharged bio-electric aura, Power Girl is nigh-invulnerable to extreme energy forces. In addition, her extends this protection against toxins and diseases.
Enhanced Immunity
Superhuman Stamina: Power Girl is able to maintain continuous strenuous physical action for an indefinite period of time. This based on her body converting yellow solar radiation directly to energy, but is limited by physiological and psychological needs to eat, drink, and sleep.
Superhuman Strength: Power Girl's strength is augmented by yellow solar radiation interacting with the greater than human density, resilience and biological efficiency of her musculature. Her strength is more an act of conscious will on energy fields than actual physical strength. It is this act of conscious will that enables her to perform physical feats that are beyond the mere application force, such as moving a mountain top without said rock crumbling under its own mass.
Superhuman Speed: Power Girl is able to move at incredible speed by sheer force of will. This extends to her perceptions and allows for feats such as catching bullets in mid flight as well as covering vast distances in little or no time.
This also confers:
Superhuman Agility
Superhuman Reflexes
Super-Breath: Power Girl is able to create hurricane force winds by exhaling air from her lungs. She can chill the air as it leaves her lungs to freeze targets. She can also reverse the process to pull large volumes of air or vapor into her lungs.
Longevity: Power Girl can live longer than regular humans, remaining at her prime as long as she was under the exposure of the "yellow" sun.
Abilities
Hand-to-Hand Combat (Advanced): Kara has trained with several notable teachers including her teammate Wildcat, who is a world-renowned boxer and hand to hand combatant. She was also trained in Karate by martial arts instructor Mongo Krebs.
Boxing
Karate
Genius Level Intellect: Power Girl has shown enhanced memorization, intelligence, and computational abilities.
Business Management
Computer Operation: Once Power Girl's computer abilities were crucial in order to save Keystone City.
Super Ventriloquism
Weaknesses
Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Power Girl possesses the same potential weaknesses as an average Kryptonian. These include:
Vulnerability to Kryptonite
Vulnerability to Magic
Vulnerability to Psionics: Kara Zor-L is as vulnerable to psionic attacks as a normal human being. She is subject to mental domination attacks against her. Those whose mental powers are superior to her own have been able to render her unconscious or disrupt her natural thought processes in battle.
Vulnerability to Raw Materials: Power Girl was vulnerable to unprocessed, natural materials, such as branches and rocks for a short while.
Power Limitation: Kara's x-ray vision cannot penetrate lead or lead-lined walls, or objects of dense enough structure. Certain energies also can be used to block her from visually analyzing them.
Power Instability: Originally Power Girl, as an Earth-Two Kryptonian, did not function on solar power, but her own body generated its own energies. However, based on recent events, Kara operates in a similar way to the New Earth universe Kryptonians, whereby she requires solar energy to function at peak capacity, or her powers fade to greatly reduced levels, some disappearing entirely if her solar reserves are empty. How Power Girl's powers function under suns not colored red or yellow is unknown.

And in issue 487:
From L to R:
Aquagirl: Tula was born in Atlantis, and was raised to a traditional family. She grew up and would join the Teen Titans, while also being a loyal sidekick/protege to Aquaman, aka King Orin, or Arthur Curry. However one day Arthur disappeared without any reason, leaving the sea kingdom with no king, until Nereus was chosen. However, Black Manta has much control in Atlantis, where he serves as a close advisor.. She found a pre-recorded message of her former king, telling her that she was one of the most trusted in his circle and she could use his equipment freely and many of his possessions now belong to her. Taking the Trident of Poseidon, Tula vows to protect Earth and also maintaining peace between humans and the oceans, while still aware she's being under the shadow of Black Manta and his followers.
Age: 22
Powers: Telepathic contact with marine life, super strength, durability, leaping, swimming at a very fast rate. Able to see in the dark. Tula' suit can remain on land for an indefinite amount of time, Trident can summon hurricanes, lightning and thunder etc. Create water constructs out of density, control water/hydrokinesis, Atlantean sorcery, electricity (additionally taught by Garth, former Aqualad).
Weaknesses: Mid-levels of dehydration, but not severe, must return to the sea after hours.
Equipment: Trident of Poseidon/Aquaman, much possessions that once belonged to her lost king, Atlantean suit/armour, weapons, magic, technology, books, shrines and etc
Superman: When Krypton's core was unstable and the planet was dying, Jor-El placed his son in a spacecraft that would take him to Earth, but unfortunately the pod malfunctioned, and in mid-air it crashed. Luckily there was a second pod, and Dru-Zod, who at the time was a young soldier, volunteered to be put in and he promised he would not let his people down.
After Zod's escape and the planet exploded, he crash landed in Coast City in America, and was found by a family of four. Zod was welcomed as the "cousin" of the family, and was subsequently given the name "Hal Jordan". He studied and learned quite fast and eventually, took a job as a pilot/technician at Ferris Aircraft. However, he has yet to fully take much more control of his powers, as well as much more to adapt to this new world, as well as the big threats which currently harm Earth.
Age: mid-20s, at least 25 now.
Powers: Currently possesses super-strength, speed, durability, endurance, superman senses, hearing etc, flight, invulnerability, heat vision, enhanced resistance, x-ray vision. As a Kryptonian, his aging is slowed down.
Weaknesses: Can't really absorb solar energy yet, 1% vulnerable to kryptonite, affected by magic, lead.
Equipment: Supersuit with solar functions, has access to his own ship with a Kryptonian key and materials, as well as Ferris Aircraft.
The Flash: Tim Drake was originally under the tutelage and third protege of Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, and also was part of the Teen Titans, operating as Red Robin. During a year ago, he went through a series of tragic events that weren't supposed to happen: The Bat-Family had gone to war against Ra's Al Ghul and fought on Nanda Parbat. One of the unfortunate casualties was Jason Todd, the Red Hood, had fallen in battle. Tim wasn't present because he was with the Teen Titans on a mission, and regretted it.
The other thing was a couple of months later, the speedsters also went to war and the Flash Family had to participate in the Speed Force. After a lengthy battle, Wally West was the only one who turned out to be alive, albeit heavily injured. With his dying breath, he gave most of his powers to Tim, as well as his suit. In the aftermath, the Bat-Family disbanded, as well as the Teen Titans and most of the other super teams. Tim eventually restructured and added more touches to the suit Wally had given him, and also used Jason's helmet fused together to become the Flash, the current (and only one) fastest man alive, while still working part time as a reporter at the Daily Planet in Metropolis.
Age: 18-20
Powers: Almost every power that a member of the Flash Family or speedster has, commonly super-speed, generate electricity, vibrate himself to phase through objects, access to the Speed Force, infinite agility and stamina etc. Has access to his old Robin gear, and has skills/abilities during his time as Red Robin.
Weaknesses: PTSD, a quarter of his powers can't really be used, can't time travel.
Equipment: Flash suit, some Bat-gadgets, Robin gear.
Batman: After the falling out and disbanding of the Bat-Family, some unknown assailant donned one of the Bat-Suits which was stole from the Batcave. On the day he fought crime, he allegedly took down a group of 30 criminals. His skills and abilities were unmatched and was almost identical to Bruce Wayne's. Wayne, now retired and usually does what has being a rich man (billionaire, president of Wayne Enterprises).
Bruce knew someone would take the suit and allowed the person to do so, but who would? He had one condition: never to kill. This new Batman was even more of a deadlier vigilante and pushed to harder limits and levels, modifying the suit to be mostly greyish-silver and slightly lesser black. The suit had much more hardened Kevlar-armor, lethal gears/weapons and newer technology which amused Wayne himself. Currently, this stranger patrols Gotham City, while also travelling to the other ones and keeping an eye on those cities too.
Age: Unknown, slated to be 30s
Powers: Similar abilities and skills to Bruce Wayne, the suit is much more reinforced, state of the art. The weapons and technology are dangerous, and thus causing fear to most criminals.
Weaknesses: Unknown
Equipment: Seemingly possesses the same equipment as the original Batman did, but more sharp and lethal. Hardened, armoured Bat-suit, lots of tech and gadgets.
Built as an A4D-2 serial 142905. Redesginated to an A-4B in 1962. To the US civil register on 29Sep70 as N905MD and I noted it at Palmdale with Douglas Flight Test on 10Oct78. Civil reg cancelled on 19Apr79. Currently on display at the museum in the markings of VA-212 'Rampant Raiders'
The following is from the museums website.
The Museum’s aircraft (142905) served with Attack Squadron Fifteen (VA-15) in the early 1960s. It is depicted in the markings of an A-4F flown by CDR Frank Green, who was shot down and killed over North Vietnam in 1972. This aircraft is on indefinite loan to the Museum from the U.S. Navy.
Few aircraft bear the designer’s imprint quite so clearly as the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. The designer, Edward H. Heinemann, is a legend in the aircraft industry; and the Skyhawk is the ultimate embodiment of his simple, no frills approach to the creation of combat aircraft.
The Skyhawk was conceived as a small, light-weight, carrier-based attack bomber able to deliver nuclear weapons. Typical of Heinemann, he developed a design perfect for the mission. Unlike most carrier-based aircraft, the A-4 did not have folding wings. This allowed a much simpler, lighter wing enabling the A-4 to carry enormous weapons loads. Dubbed “Heinemann’s Hot Rod,” it first flew on June 22, 1954. Delivery to U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps squadrons began in September 1956.
The A-4B was the second production version of the Skyhawk. The B model featured a midair refueling probe on the starboard side of the fuselage and could carry a 330-gallon “buddy” refueling tank to refuel other aircraft inflight. Originally designated A4 D-2, the aircraft was first delivered to the U.S. Navy in September 1957, and redesignated A-4B in 1962. A total of 542 A-4Bs were built.
The A-4 was widely used by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, and played a major combat role in the Vietnam war. It was also flown by the air forces of many nations, including in combat with Israel and Argentina. The A-4 also flew with the U.S. Navy’s Top Gun fighter school and the famous Blue Angels. When production ended in 1979, Douglas had built 2,960 Skyhawks of all variants.

Last year I would call – a year of reading Mari. I have always loved reading, but ever since you become involved into the process of official studies you ought to read something that is in the program. After finishing school I was eager to read something for myself, but then the studies at the university absorbed me, we had foreign literature and also needed to read tons of books. I would not lie some of them I especially liked. One of the greatest example would be my beloved Kafka. But nevertheless, it was always about analysis, time periods, but not about the deepest soul of each book and the author.
I guess it wasn’t until the last year when I realised how important is reading for me. The time is passing rapidly and I know that I can’t waste any more time longer. My love for the German language and admiration for beautiful titles led me to the book ‘The clown’ by Heinrich Böll. The clown? And what is beautiful in this title? Agree, nothing. Thanks to the translator. In German the book is called ‘Ansichten eines Clowns’, which means ‘Clown’s viewpoint’ or ‘From the clown’s perspective’. Sounds intriguing for me and vividly hints that we deal with a very subjective story.
The book tells a story that happens within one day. Imagine: few hours of one day, post Second World War Germany, city of Bonn and a clown that has lost his job for indefinite time because of the injury with one mark left in his pocket. Let’s add to that the fact that he has also lost his loved one, his future wife and is in deep life crisis. With this luggage of problems we go through the whole book with the main character diving into his recollections on his childhood, Hitler’s fascism, the role of religion and importance of forgiveness.
No spoilers. I would like to highly recommend this book for those who are interested in philosophy and psychology, who love to see things from a new perspective, who are eager to analyse the past. The book has wonderful writing style!
Any book recommendations?
Stay tuned! 🌱⠀

ET40-45 with mixed freight train from Gdańsk Port Północny station is going southbound, now closing up to the mainline from Gdańsk just before Pruszcz Gdański station. May 18, 2002.
A "bomber" was a nickname of ET40 class. 60 locomotives for PKP were built in Czechoslovak Škoda factory in Plzeň between 1975 and 1978 as factory type 77E. Very similar series 67E was manufactured for newly electrified broad gauge line from Soviet station Ужгород-1 (Uzhhorod-1; today in Ukraine) to Haniska pri Košiciach, where gargantuic steelworks were constructed (presently US Steel, but there're some rumours the steelwork is to be sold).
The locomotive contains two identical 4-axle sections that actually could play the role of separate locomotives. The continuous output is 4080 kW. The nickname is from the very characteristic sound coming from the locomotive transmissions and bring to the mind the sound of a heavy bombers from 2nd World War.
To end this story - all ET40 locomotives that were yet in working condition were withdrawn around 2010 and up to 10 years later scrapped. Just few units were left for indefinite purpose in indefinite future.

I have now relocated to the Philippines for an indefinite period of time, possibly forever. My over-active imagination tends to see the fronts of vehicles as having faces. Depending especially on the front grill design, the faces can look aggressive, sad, happy, etc. I was pleased to find this old VOLVO tractor having an outright laugh, in spite of having lost the sight of one eye.
This image should also help refute the idea some people have that the Swedes are always very serious. (It also suggests they have never seen either a Pippi Longstocking movie or the costumes Abba wore when they won the Eurovision Song Contest.)
Speaking of a laugh, this tractor is in the Kreiterhof's amazing, photogenic collection of items in "indefinite long-term outdoor storage."

WE DENOUNCE: The blocking from European courts that the Spanish Constitutional Court imposes upon us
Access to the courts without delay or unnecessary obstacles is a right that every person has. Making it difficult to exercise this right with full guarantees and on fair conditions can lead to irreparable injury and damage to fundamental rights.
The case being brought by the Spanish State for the October 1 2017 Referendum demonstrates a whole set of infringements of our fundamental rights, including the presumption of innocence, freedom, political rights and the due process of law. Violations of the European Convention on Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights are very prominent in many of the rulings issued against us by both the Supreme Court and the National Court since October 16 2017, when the first pre-trial detention orders were issued.
Our determination to have a fair, lawful trial is stronger than ever. We have not ceased to appeal to the courts against all the violations of our rights that the Spanish courts have committed. But today it is in the international courts, and especially the European Court of Human Rights, that we deposit our trust to obtain justice.
However, the Constitutional Court (CC) is blocking our access to European justice. The action of the CC is as simple as it is blatant: to admit 100% of our appeals for constitutional protection of our fundamental rights, without resolving any of them afterwards. According to the CC’s official data, only between 1% and 1·5% of the total number of appeals for protection that are presented to it are admitted. In our case, they have admitted 100% of them, only to forget them in a drawer. Spanish legislation (the Criminal Procedure Act) and the doctrine of the CC lay down that appeals against pre-trial detention orders have to receive preferential processing and must be resolved within a 30-day deadline. The first appeal for constitutional protection of our fundamental rights that was admitted by the CC against the pre-trial detention order, issued by the Spanish National Court (NC), was filed on November 22 2017, more than 365 days ago. This is an unjustified delay, and more so if we bear in mind the records of several express resolutions resolved by the CC, when it has even met during a weekend and/or just 24 hours after its intervention being requested.
We underline the need for an impartial and diligent CC, which does not impede the exercise of our rights. We denounce the de facto blocking, imposed by the Spanish CCt, of our access to the European Court of Human Rights. We reaffirm our determination, in accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights, to fully exercise our defence rights. We shall never relinquish our right to a fair trial.
We do not ask the CC for any treatment of favour. But we do not passively accept any discrimination or unwarranted procrastination. The question is not even for the Court to rule in our favour, but simply for the appeals presented to be unblocked (by not being admitted or by being turned down). Only in this way will the road to access European justice be opened to us. We are well aware that the longer it takes for us to access the European Court of Human Rights, the longer regaining our freedom will be delayed.
The blocking from European courts that the CC imposes upon us. And we do so with all the strength and dignity of a line of political action rooted in non-violence. One of the few legitimate forms of protest that being imprisoned allows us is to undertake a hunger strike.
We are doing this not against anyone, but rather in order to stir people’s conscience and foster action to prevent something that is not normal being accepted as normal. The irregular functioning of the CC is of unequivocal gravity for the rule of law. And this ought to reach out to all democrats of whatever political credence.
We ask for the attention and support of all democratic people in Catalonia, Spain, Europe, and the world. We invite people to stick to the civic, peaceful behaviour that has made us so strong over these years. We urge the “Smiling Revolution” to flourish afresh, by means of events that will continue to be held in Catalonia in the form of concentrations, “yellow dinners”, and concerts in the coming days and weeks. And we also ask our hunger strike not to alter the spirit or celebrations that on these dates, close to Christmas and the New Year, mean to the vast majority of us.
Finally, we are grateful for the solidarity of all women and men who feel themselves called and committed to the effective defence of personal and collective rights and liberties.
All together, with our heads high, till freedom is achieved!

I'm sorry for the wait for this MOC, and if the final MOC is disappointing. It's not the least of my problems right now.
This MOC has been in the works for well over a month. As Ayen was considered one of the best of the original Vihagu, which had generally mixed reception, I had intended to make a truly spectacular version of this MOC - one that looked great, and looked markedly different than the other Vihagu (as the basic design I have for Ayen is meant to be somewhat esoteric.)
However. This past month has been quite busy - busier than usual for me - and over the course of it I lost interest in finishing this MOC. I tried sometimes to work on it but nothing productive came of it. I also ended up becoming disinterested about MOCing in general. New ideas for MOCs don't interest me like they used to, motivation to actually MOC has been harder and harder, and I don't think I've given someone a good constructive critique in weeks.
So this might be the last you see of me for a while. I've more or less gone into the dark ages. I know the term dark ages implies that I'll pick up the hobby at some point in the future, and I have hope that I will continue the progress that I've made so far in future, but for now... it's just not coming to me.
Italia - Florencia - Piazza della Signoria - Estatua de Hércules y Caco

ENGLISH
Hercules and Cacus is a white sculpture to the right of the entrance of the Palazzo Vecchio in the Piazza della Signoria, Florence, Italy.
This work by the Florentine artist Baccio Bandinelli (1525–1534) was commissioned as a pendant to Michelangelo's David, which had been commissioned by the republican council of Florence, under Piero Soderini (gonfaloniere for life), to commemorate the victory over the Medici.
The colossus (height: 5.05 m) was originally given to Michelangelo and meant to complement the David but later appropriated by the Medici family as a symbol of their renewed power after their return from exile in 1512, and again in 1530. Although descriptions of its unveiling in 1534 provided verbal and written criticisms of the marble, most were instead aimed at the Medici family for dissolving the Republic and were not aesthetic. A few of the writers of these hypercritical verses were imprisoned by Alessandro de'Medici, further suggesting a political commentary. The two harshest critics were Giorgio Vasari and Benvenuto Cellini, both of whom were champions of Michelangelo and rivals of Bandinelli for Medici patronage. Vasari lamented the change of hands from Michelangelo to Bandinelli, and the change of design. Cellini referred to the emphatic musculature as "a sack full of melons", forgetting that Michelangelo had received similar deprecation previously by Leonardo da Vinci. Neither Vasari nor Cellini can be viewed as unbiased resources due to their rivalries. The patrons (Medici family) were quite satisfied and rewarded Bandinelli greatly for his efforts with land, money, and he was later placed in charge of all sculptural and architectural programs for the Medici under Cosimo I.
The pause suggests the leniency of the Medici to those who would concede to their rule, and served as a warning to those who would not, as this pause can be indefinite or simply temporary.

Air-drop-ready and affordable. The Box Sentry is armed with twin 20mm machine guns on retractable mounts and a multi-spectral optics suite for rapid target acquisition. The radioisotope battery allows for indefinite deployment, but limits the unit's overall range, however it fulfills its sentry role adequately.
HAPPY WINDOW WEDNESDAY(S) !!
Your are looking in one porthole and out its twin. They serve a small, landlocked, old boat in a state of serious disrepair. The far porthole is open, with its plastic window hanging down. The chrome frame of the near porthole has a golden glow, thanks to wonderful late-summer, late afternoon light.
The boat is in "indefinite outdoor storage" (along with a myriad of other items) at one of our favorite places in nearby southwestern Germany, See information below.
Location: Kreiterhof, near the Village of Nebenau, District of Lörrach, Baden-Württemberg DE.
In my album: Dan's Windows.

II
Suppose these houses are composed of ourselves,
So that they become an impalpable town, full of
Impalpable bells, transparencies of sound,
Sounding in transparent dwellings of the self,
Impalpable habitations that seem to move
In the movement of the colors of the mind,
The far-fire flowing and the dim-coned bells
Coming together in a sense in which we are poised,
Without regard to time or where we are,
In the perpetual reference, object
Of the perpetual meditation, point
Of the enduring, visionary love,
Obscure, in colors whether of the sun
Or mind, uncertain in the clearest bells,
The spirit’s speeches, the indefinite,
Confused illuminations and sonorities,
So much ourselves, we cannot tell apart
The idea and the bearer-being of the idea.

This series is a kind of Flickr prolegomena to a book which has been in (SLOW) progress for some time now, about the making of houses. I have not shared my ideas with many (partly because they have been and still are so fragmented), but my intent now is that people I am in correspondence with re this project can come here to guide me, though I also hope that Flickrers who are interested in such things might become new readers and correspondents as well.
The title for my book lies hidden in this excerpt from Wallace Stevens's poem An Ordinary Evening in New Haven, New Haven being – coincidentally and perhaps poignantly – the place where I have lived for the last 27 years.
Though Wallace Stevens has not left my side since I discovered him in a college bookstore in Alabama, fifty years ago.
