As coastal artillery guns became larger, and their range increased, growing demands were placed on the fire control systems that targeted potential naval targets. By World War II the 16” guns of Battery Townsley and Battery Davis could fire a projectile 25 miles to sea. And there is a lot of sea out there at that range. To be effective the projectile would have to strike its target and that is where the artillery fire control system came into play.
Fire control systems basically sighted targets from multiple vantage points along the shore. The vantage points were connected by baselines of known relationship. The sighting direction from each fire control station was transmitted to a central fire control plotting room where the readings were fed into an analog computer, essentially adjustable arms on a large plotting table (see video). The coordinates of a target ship were updated at 20 second intervals to establish a ship trajectory, A projectile fired by the 16” guns was in the air for about 90 seconds so several intervals of plotting would occur while the load was in flight.
Coastal batteries with smaller weapons could use fire control stations that were relatively close to each other. However, the range of the 16” guns required fire control stations that were quite far apart. In the Bay Area these began down past Pacifica to the south and ranged all the way up to Wildcat in Pt. Reyes. The Hill 640 Military Reservation, located on coastal bluffs just south of Stinson Beach near the intersection of Panoramic Highway and Highway 1, had five fire control stations with each station associated with a different 16” gun installation. The site has fire control stations for completed batteries (Townsley and Davis) and unfinished batteries (129 and 243) plus a fifth fire control station of unknown association. It is interesting that while the fire control stations all belonged to the same era they have different designs. There must be a story behind this circumstance. It is also interesting that targeting information was not shared between the batteries.
Our visit found the fire control stations all grouped together above Highway 1. They seem to be in pretty good shape for structures built 70 years ago.

This is a photograph from the 3rd annual running of the Trim AC 10 Mile Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 5th February 2017 at 12:00. The race attracted over 1,200 participants which shows a 100% increase on last year's participation. The event shows growth year on year mirroring the growing popularity of the race. The race started on the Trim/Athboy road on the town's ring road and proceded to take an anti-clockwise loop out towards the village of Dunderry and townland of Kilbride before returning back to the Trim Industrial Estate for the finish. The route is held on quiet country roads with some hills at 3, 6, 8 mile segments.

The weather for this year's race was perfect for racing. There was a hard frost overnight but this brought clear bright skies and crisp air. There was no real wind to speak of.
Waterstops were provided at the 4.5 and 7 mile marks on the course. All access roads were well stewarded. The event was sponsored by Bewleys 1840 and many local business establishments. Credit must go to the Trim AC team for their flawless organisation. If the first three years of this year are anything to go on then this race will continue to grow. For runners around the North Leinster area this 10 mile race serves as a perfect training progress stepping stone to the Bohermeen Half Marathon which will take place in March 2016 and is located only 15 minutes drive from Trim.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

CANAL INFO:
The Leeds and Liverpool canal was built from 1772 to increase industrial transportation between West Yorkshire and the Merseyside ports. Limestone, textiles and coal were in critical demand between Yorkshire and Lancashire at this time where trains were still only beginning to happen. Committees in Bradford and Liverpool formed and for a while disputed over their different respective plans for the route Following appeasement, the route as proposed via engineers John Longbotham and James Brindley was built at a cost of nearly £260, 000 and a length of 109 miles. The first phase, from Bingley to Shipley was up and running by 1774. By this time, Brindley had passed, and Longbotham had taken over as chief engineer. The construction from the Liverpool end reached Wigan in 1781.
The canal's overall construction spanned five decades, delayed further by money and disputes and also the colonial war in the late 1700s. Trade from Yorkshire to Liverpool was already brisk by the time construction finished, including branches - significantly the ones to Bradford and Wigan. Although both steam and horse drawn railways were available by 1800, the canal continued to thrive for a century.
Horse drawn barges would last impressively until 1960 while industrial trade remaining until the 1980s, by which time the bulk of such work was being done, quite inevitably by trains and lorries.
Today, the Leeds and Liverpool canal stretches for 127 miles, crossing the Pennines between the two cities, with additional branches bringing people - and still business - to and from other towns in Yorkshire and Lancashire on its journey. 91 locks are included, notably the notorious 5 Locks at Bingley, which take an apparent 3-4 hours to negotiate.
The towpath is used heavily by both walkers and cyclists on its route, with the Leeds end being notably active especially during commuter hours. At the newly developed Granary Wharf, the canal basin area has been heavily redeveloped in recent years while the new southern entrance to Leeds station also providing additionally quick access to the canal route.

Are you presently experiencing chest pain regularly? Would it increase while resting? Would it occur after eating? What is the real bitter aftertaste inside your mouth? Will you experience frequent hoarseness? These are typically all symptoms linked to acid reflux, and you will find relief in this article.
Try drinking somewhere between meals as an alternative to during them. This will significantly allow you to manage hunger pains, as you are likely thirsty as an alternative to hungry. Also, when you drink beyond eating times, you'll find your stomach doesn't get as distended if you eat and acid doesn't pass back into the esophagus.
Record the types of foods that appear to trigger acid reflux symptoms. Folks who suffer from acid reflux have triggers that can make things worse. When you are aware anything they are, you can test to protect yourself from them, especially through the night.
Chew cinnamon flavored gum as soon as you eat. When chewing happens, the level of saliva made in the mouth increases. Saliva aids the neutralization of stomach acid. Also, when chewing gum, more swallowing occurs, making acid go back down in the stomach on the esophagus. Fruit-flavored gum will do this too. Will not, however, chew gum with mint inside. Mint may actually cause acid reflux, to you need to be making things worse.
Eat your meals slowly. Give up eating prior to feel stuffed. Relax, sit upright at the table and chew your meals thoroughly. Acid reflux will get much worse if you overeat or eat too rapidly. One trick to alleviate several of your issues is usually to place your fork in your plate in between each bite.
Don't wear tight clothing. Tight belts, slimming underclothing, and restrictive waistbands are typical suspect. These sorts of garments put pressure in your digestive area that you just don't need or want. This pressure might cause heartburn and reflux. Always wear garments you see comfortable and which let your midsection breathe.
Eat smaller meals frequently. Eating just a few big meals daily can certainly make acid reflux worse. Full stomachs cause pressure being added to the esophageal sphincter, which in turn opens as a technique of gaining relief. This gives stomach acid to creep into the esophagus, causing heartburn. Eat smaller, more frequent meals instead.

2. A realistic plan for execution and getting your vision implemented.
3. (Most importantly) A team, able to see the grand vision and execute the plan.

ZoomCharts had an excellent time participating in the TechHub Rīga March Meetup on March 12, 2015, taking place at Kaļķu street 12/14, Rīga, LV-1050, Latvia.
ZoomCharts CEO and Co-Founder Janis Volbergs gave an engaging presentation on the startup path from idea, to market, to investment, and what it takes to build a product from the ground up and take it to a new level.
How did it all start?
A problem was spotted. There were no visualization libraries delivering truly interactive charts for touch enabled devices that were capable of working with big data.
And so the idea emerged. This was the right time to build such a library.
Why?
Because touch screen displays will become a $31.9 billion dollar market by 2018. Smart mobile sensor devices were used by 1.75 billion people in 2014. The Big Data market will grow exponentially (from $8.8 billion in 2013), to $48 billion in 2018. HTML5 adoption is wide enough and touch enabled devices are powerful enough to generate interactive visualizations.
The ingredients for a successful startup include:
1. A grand vision. ZoomCharts’ vision is to become the number one SDK for interactive chart development in web and mobile apps.
2. A realistic plan for execution and getting your vision implemented.
3. (Most importantly) A team, able to see the grand vision and execute the plan.
ZoomCharts started small, but focused. A vision was set, a core team of professionals was assembled, and a detailed business plan was derived, which led to a €200,000 seed investment.
The product was created in less than a year, and launched public downloads and a shop in March 2014.
In less than a year, the customer list grew to include companies such as TCI Business Capital, Hewlett Packard, D8 Corporation, Proteus Enterprise, Narus, SwissLife, Taykey, Derivitec, Sensors, Click & Pledge, Ryan Scientific, Inc., Booxs, Frostbyte Consulting, Image webdesign, Norbit, Helm, Zengo, Ense Group, RCS, Helbling, Loonloon, Fractalerts, Thinktecture, bitmama, KeeSystem, Trulia, Maxfone, and many more.

ZoomCharts started with a €0 investment in dedicated marketing. A follow up investment of €500,000 raised in November 2014 enabled us to scale our team from 3 to 11, and get us moving forward fast.

The gradient on Hill Cart Road increased slightly but suddenly: it was just too much for poor No. 01 and our crawl slowed to a stop. Some more work on the cylinders.
Despite appearances, the engine is not actually derailed: there is just some sort of kink in the track. The angle makes the gradient look steeper than it is - but you can tell what is vertical by the way people are standing and smoke is rising.

The Pakistan Strategy Support Program (PSSP) held the conference, “Increasing Productivity and Unleashing Growth” at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad on May 26-27th, 2012. This conference also marked the final round of the Competitive Grants Program that was launched by PSSP in January 2012 for Pakistani PhD and graduate students studying locally and abroad on economic development issues of Pakistan. The finalists presented in front of the Research Advisory Committee, donor heads, professors and students from local universities. The event also consisted of plenary sessions on Pakistan’s various economic growth issues by renowned academics from all over the world, such as Dr. Jock Anderson, Dr. Regina Birner and Dr. David Spielman.
African countries have made considerable progress in increasing agricultural productivity and reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. But continued population growth, urbanization, changing diets, and climate change are putting pressure on food systems not only to provide more food but also to make more diverse and nutritious foods available and accessible. New digital technologies and services are already making an impact on how food is being produced, processed, marketed, traded, and consumed across the continent. How African countries position themselves to harness and deploy digital technologies will determine the future competitiveness of African agriculture and its contribution to African economies.
This seminar will explore how African countries can develop a “digitalization ecosystem” to help foster growth and competitiveness in the continent’s value chains. Participants will also discuss the institutional and policy innovations that have already been implemented by African governments as well as efforts by the private sector and ag-tech startups to increase the development and use of digital tools and services in agriculture.

Taken around lunchtime when the protest was peaceful. The gates at the front of City Hall were closed to stop any trespass by the students. At around half 3 a sit down protest began outside City Hall which closed the road for at least 2 hours. There were about 4 arrests and by and large the protest was benign.
Despite the humourous nature of the signs the protests are serious and valid. A 200% increase in university fees brought in by the coalition government, yet the liberal democrats in their election manifesto stated that they would not bring in any increases.
Whats that you say? A hypocritical political party who'd have thought it eh?

Lostock came out strong and took the lead in the 16th minute with a shot off the inside post but saw their lead disappear within minutes due to a goalkeeping error from the Lostock keeper. Oli Evans restored the lead midway through the 1st half with a lovely looping header and had the chance to increase the lead through a penalty after being brought down by the Stoneclough keeper. Unfortunately Evans penalty cleared the bar and was last seen heading over Longton. It was pretty much backs to the wall from Lostock in the 2nd but they held out to take all the points.

Increasing female labor participation not only economically and politically empowers women, it also has the potential to substantially increase economic productivity. This is an especially critical issue in Japan where getting more women into the workforce could result in GDP gains of up to 13 percent and help to offset losses caused by the country’s demographic decline. Cooperation and coordination between Japan and the United States could also help to economically empower women elsewhere around the world, especially in developing countries where the potential economic gains are most significant. While increased female labor participation presents a significant opportunity, the structural and social hurdles are enormous – and it is not clear that policy initiatives currently underway in Japan and elsewhere can surmount them. As coastal artillery guns became larger, and their range increased, growing demands were placed on the fire control systems that targeted potential naval targets. By World War II the 16” guns of Battery Townsley and Battery Davis could fire a projectile 25 miles to sea. And there is a lot of sea out there at that range. To be effective the projectile would have to strike its target and that is where the artillery fire control system came into play.
Fire control systems basically sighted targets from multiple vantage points along the shore. The vantage points were connected by baselines of known relationship. The sighting direction from each fire control station was transmitted to a central fire control plotting room where the readings were fed into an analog computer, essentially adjustable arms on a large plotting table (see video). The coordinates of a target ship were updated at 20 second intervals to establish a ship trajectory, A projectile fired by the 16” guns was in the air for about 90 seconds so several intervals of plotting would occur while the load was in flight.
Coastal batteries with smaller weapons could use fire control stations that were relatively close to each other. However, the range of the 16” guns required fire control stations that were quite far apart. In the Bay Area these began down past Pacifica to the south and ranged all the way up to Wildcat in Pt. Reyes. The Hill 640 Military Reservation, located on coastal bluffs just south of Stinson Beach near the intersection of Panoramic Highway and Highway 1, had five fire control stations with each station associated with a different 16” gun installation. The site has fire control stations for completed batteries (Townsley and Davis) and unfinished batteries (129 and 243) plus a fifth fire control station of unknown association. It is interesting that while the fire control stations all belonged to the same era they have different designs. There must be a story behind this circumstance. It is also interesting that targeting information was not shared between the batteries.
Our visit found the fire control stations all grouped together above Highway 1. They seem to be in pretty good shape for structures built 70 years ago.

The EU should place mandatory limits on industrially-produced trans-fatty acids (TFA) which may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, infertility, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and obesity for consumers, says a resolution voted on Wednesday. TFA intake is mostly linked to consumption of industrially produced, partially hydrogenated oils.
MEPs mention the fact that, according to the European Commission, only one in three consumers in the EU knows about TFAs which shows that labelling measures are not enough. The Commission should therefore propose an EU legal limit on the industrial TFA content of all foods as soon as possible, and preferably within two years, say MEPs.
MEPs say that there is evidence that Denmark’s introduction of legal limits for industrial TFAs, which brought in a national limit of 2% on trans fats in oils and fats in 2003, was successful, significantly reducing deaths caused by cardiovascular disease.
TFAs tend to be used in cheaper foods, which means that people on lower incomes are most exposed to foodstuffs with a higher TFA content. This in turn increases the potential for widening health inequalities, MEPs say.
The resolution was passed by 586 votes to 19, with 38 abstentions.
