Increased number of gun sales is also putting a strain on ammo sales. The shelves at K & R Gun are almost bare with hand gun rounds. Rifle rounds are a little better but ammo supplies are tight.

by false propaganda. This intake of 2008 is an incontrovertible 18%increase in seats over that of 2006 that cannot be taken back or altered by the university in any future. Fresh lists are still being broughtout, and wemust do the utmost to ensure that all seats are dulyfilled. .

However. the misplaced debate over a non-existent 'seat-cut' is a motivated smokescreen that is deliberately deflecting from the real problem at hand: the fraudulent criterion behind non-fulfilment of OBC quota-an issue on which the pec!dlers of lie of "seat-cut" are ng and scrutiny: and the JNUSU's careful scrutiny of the process has identified that illegal.

completely silent. Th1s matter calls for v1gilant mon1tori.

calculationof 'cut-off is the cause for non-fulfilmentof OBC quota. This is explained below. .

.

Why is the QBC quota in JNU not being fulfilled: Where lies the administration's fraud? .

Thepresent moment is acritical juncture in implementing OBC reservations.Until last year, OBCstudents see~ing admission were given 5extramarks on ith.

the basisof the deprivation point system. Accordingto theOBC reservationlaw,OBC studentscan begiven areduction ofup to 10marks.Why is it that w.

a 5markreduction, OBC students consututed 12%of the university's strength, while with reservation JNUis not able to fulfil even this number?Clearly, .

111ere is adiscrepancyinthe wayJNUis implementing thequota. .

In the meeting of the StandingCommittee held on 11 "' August, theJNUSU Office-Bearersexposed the complete illegality of the basis onwhich theJNU .

.

Administration is defining and implementing the lawon OBC reservafion. idates well intime.This.

According to thelaw and the MHRD directives, the university must fix .,cut-off marks" forboth unreserved and OBCcand.

cut-off is institution specific: it is theclear parameter on whichitis evaluatedwhether students fit the standards of the institutionor not. In JNU, for the .

unreserved candidates the cut off mark is 40, meaning that this is the benchmark that sets the standard of the university. The Supreme .

Court has stated thatamaximum relaxation of 10 points can be given to OBC candidate with regard to the un-reserved candidates as a differential. .

Accordingly, in JNU, the "cut-off mark" for OBC candidates should stand between 40 and 30. But this is something the university has .

.

not done. .

The crucial point of contention has to do with wherewe apply the 10 mark relaxation. The Administration is presently arguing that this relaxationis to be .

.

applied on merilln such acase, letus take the example of aparticular centre: .

In this centre, suppose the merit list for the unreserved category is filled between 90 to 70 marks. Then, as per the JNU's argument, the 10 marks relaxation .

.

tor the OBC candidates means that the quota has to be filled by students getting marks between 70 and 60.In this example, 60 marks is the last benchmark for an OBC candidc:1e 10 get admission. After this.if the quota is unfulfilled, the ranaining seats will go to the general category 1rthe rema1nmg seats are offered to the general category, then astudent of the general category can be given aseat at 65 marks, or 60 marks, or 55 marks. In the first situation.where aseat is given to an unreserved candidate getting 65 marks, then aseat has already been given to an OBC candidateat 65 marks, which means that the OBC candidate who hc3s received the seat should actually be in the General Category and not in the OBC merit list! In the second situation, the general and the OBC candidates have been admitted at the same cut-ff which is illegal as OBC'sshould receive a10 mark .

relaxation in the cut-off! .

In the third situation, where the general candidate is taken in with 55 marks, then the new general category student is below in merit to the lastcandidate .

.

I .

of the OBC merit list! · Each of these situations is not only absurd, but illegal, and in contravention ofthe letter and spirit of the law. When confronted by JNUSU '.

on this issue ofblatant illegalities, the Administration was left completely silent As JNUSU's indefinite hunger strike enters its fifth day, the question to be asked is why is a particular organization bent on targeting JNUSU? Why are they harping the issue of a non-existent "seat cut" and remaining completely silent on the illegalities of OBC reservation, which is one of the key reasons for non-fulfilment of the increased intake? .

The Challenge that faces us in today's UGBM There is avery real challenge that faces us in the UGBM today. It is clear that there for aparticular organization and its allies on campus, the prime concern .

IS not implementing OBC reservation but targeting JNUSU.They would prefer to undermine JNUSU rather than struggle with JNUSU for social justice, only so as to serve their narrow political interests. .

JNUSU believes that the struggle for social justice cannot be held back by opportunist political forces that are spreading false rumours based on afalse: 'smokescreen' of numbers. Ifthe opportunist politics of these organizations is allowed to play havoc, then the real focus of implementing OBC reservations will be deflected. What is moreJ in afo!'Um such as the JNLJSU Council meeting, the councillors belonging to aparticular organization, when asked toclarify their stand, took the minuted position that they "donot care about rules or legality." Such an attitude is one of grave irresponsibility for the Central Act .

on OBC reservation is alaw that has to follow certain provisions. To hold that JNUSU .,neednot care about any law or rule" for the implementation of such an extremely important ACT of OBC reservation is tantamount to leaving the field .Jpen to anti-reservation forces both inside .

and outside the administration to challenge and obstruct the implementation of OBC reservation. This is an illegal and motivated position that JNUSU opposes in every way. JNUSU as acollective student body has always stood onthe side of social justice. The implementation of OBC reservationin this campus has required vigilance and struggle every inch of the way.At each juncture, JNUSU has informed the student community of the developmentsat hand. Wethank .

!he student community for their support at every juncture. JNUSU appeals to the student community to stand in solidarity with JNUSU in today's UGBM against all those forces that have been targeting the union based on misleading and legally untenable arguments, and to ensure that the struggle against all existing anomalies in JNU's admission process, for fulfilment of PH, OBC, SC/STquotaand overall intake, extension of date of admission and tor social justice is a victorious one. .

Responding to the need for increased addiction treatment and recovery services statewide in the face of an epidemic that claims a life from overdose every other day, Governor Markell joined Department of Health and Social Services Secretary Rita Landgraf and other leaders Aug. 12 to detail the state’s priorities for the $4.45 million in new resources provided by the Fiscal Year 2016 budget.

Speaking at the construction site for a new withdrawal management clinic in Harrington, Governor Markell said that facility exemplifies the state’s commitment to serve the thousands of Delawareans and their families affected by the state’s addiction epidemic.

Mike Barbieri, the new director of DHSS’ Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), detailed the priorities for the remainder of the $4.45 million in new funding. It would allow DSAMH to:

•Expand the capacity of residential treatment programs throughout the state by opening new programs statewide. This will be done by reconfiguring the existing program at Delaware City and opening three 16-bed units across the state. When the changes are completed, the number of residential treatment beds is expected to increase from 78 to 95. ($800,000)

•Double the number of sober living residential beds statewide from 60 to 120, allowing more individuals who are in the early stages of recovery to live in safe and secure housing that is free from drugs and alcohol. ($935,000)

•Double the number of residential treatment beds across the state from 16 to 32 for young people age 18 to 25 who are beginning their recoveries from addiction to heroin or other opiates. ($1.15 million)

•Fund start-up costs for residential treatment programs. ($815,000 in one-time funds)

April 12, 2023. Lawrence, MA.

Activists, families and community members stood out at 60-62 Union Street in support of the Lawrence LatinX Union Street Tenants Association. Three Households will face their first no-fault eviction mediation after the entire tenants association resisted the rent increase from their new landlord. Six households received rent increases of 50%+ and tenants immediately formed a Tenant Association with the support of City Life Vida Urbana. A 50% rent increase will push these families out of their homes. The Union St. Tenants Association already had a vigil outside their homes after sending a couple of letters to the owner seeking negotiations and offering a compromise. The landlord so far has refused to negotiate. Families hope with public pressure theyâll be able to advocate for multi-year contracts with 2% rent increase caps. City Life has successfully negotiated collective bargaining agreements all over the metropolitan area. These are typically multi-year agreements that cap rent increases over a 5-year period. They provide stability for both residents and owners. They are also urging Massachusetts legislators to lift the ban on rent control to stabilize rents with the Act Enabling Cities and Towns to Stabilize Rents and Protect Tenants (2103 / SD1299).

A beautiful flower, with an ugly name- the Spiderwort. While walking a trail in Arkansas with my dogs, we came across a bunch of these gorgeous blooms. It had just rained the night before, and the flowers were holding on to several rain drops on their petals. I love how the bright yellow stamens contrast against the rich forest floor, and the petals are the most delicious violet color.
