The picture was taken pretty close to 5000 meters. The clouds cover the valley below. I'm not sure why, but neither Val, nor I felt special altitude discomfort. May be because we found correct slow pace that kept us functional.

In spite of good spirits before sleep it was probably the worst night in my life so far. About midnight I felt pain in my right eye. I decided to put up with growing pain and wait till daylight. It turned out in the morning that my eye was poured with blood and didn't see much. It took several days for the eye to recover.

Peru 2005 - Inca Trail

Our first camp-site at Wayllambamba. 12kms from the start and we all thought we were dong well until here. The view was nice but the toilets were dreadful.

We had plenty of time on the pass, so decided to climb the adjustent no-name hill.

Looking back at the cloud covered Mount Veronica (18,641ft, 5,682m) - I kept hoping the clouds would clear and I would get that perfect shot but this was about the best I could do. It really was beautiful, though - and at least it wasn't raining anymore!

Inca Trail - Day 2

It was probably the altitude (because you wake up a lot during the night), but I had incredible dreams on the trek. Bright, colorful, detailed. It was fun to go to sleep.

We had plenty of time after lunch, and decided to walk some pretty trail that ascended the valley's right slope.
