The Inca Town of Llactapata - seen from the Inca trail above. This town was protected by the watchtower in the previous picture. It sits at the intersection of two river valleys.
Inca Trail is famous for its countless steps. They were probably good to facilitate carrying Inca The King, but inferior for hiking. Our first steps happened to be in this bewitched forest. I took several pictures of it, and all were scrambled, like this one.
On our way to Machu Picchu. This was taken after the final control stop where we received our last passport stamp while on the trail. It's just before 6 am.

Eating lunch on the way down from Dead Woman's pass on the 2nd day of the trek. Basically we work our tans while the porters unpack chairs and tables (!!) for us and then cook lunch... (so, ya, we tipped them)
The stream looks nice and clear. Anyway, our guide advised us against drinking unboiled water. So we always carried some bottled or previously boiled water. In the first day we had about a liter per person, but it turned out we were not great water drinkers, so we decreased the volume to less than a liter for both of us. We also carried 'Micropur' tablets to purify water if needed, but never used them.
