CHICAGO – December 12, 2012. Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by Illinois college students to discuss how inaction on pension reform is threatening Monetary Award Program (MAP) college scholarships and access to higher education in Illinois. One after one, the students made clear how access to higher education changed their lives and prepared them for a job and career. Today’s event is part of the governor’s ongoing effort to educate and activate the people of Illinois to push for pension reform as he continues to work with legislators on the issue. MAP grants are need-based college scholarships that provide students with merit who are in need across Illinois with the opportunity to attend a higher education institution. These grants help cover tuition and fee costs at approved universities and colleges in Illinois, and do not need to be repaid by the student. 18,000 students lost their MAP grant scholarships this year because of budget reductions to education. Currently, only half of eligible MAP grant applicants are able to receive the aid they need to attend college.

The battle goes on between

The fixed intractable land

And the fluid insatiable sea

Solidity versus mobility

Action versus inaction

Soft sand versus wave-weight

Expansion of humanity in regard to living nature. Character of urbanization and technical progress.

I have been up and down lately. I am not one for patience or inaction? My

DR..wife keeps telling me to slow down and take it easy. Taking it easy is

not as "EASY" as it sounds. I also called my coach, jim lehman, and he had

the same advice take it easy and finish watching "Entourage!" I am taking

it easy until my follow up with Dr. Lourie on the 14th.

I am at 73% today. Did 30mins on the stairmaster and 1 hrs spin on the

trainer.

Wallace had to work for most of the day and evening. I was able to sleep in and then go run errands with Banana. I made country fried steak with peppered country gravy, mashed potatoes and corn for dinner. After dinner Wallace and I have been watching t.v. including my big fat gypsy wedding and now say yes to the dress. We are non-stop Friday night excitement here. Just like a dance club, except for no music, no dancing, no drinking. Woohoo for the weekend!

Our actions now will reverberate for generations, as will our inaction.

Speak out for Gaza and for the victims of atrocities worldwide.

No voice is too small, no act too late.

Israel and Zionism have been synonymous with genocide for more than three quarters of a century.

I was headed for Fairview Ave. It was beautiful out; 100% sun, temps in the low seventies, light breeze, perfect! There was even some good news on the MofW front; a high rail truck was at work just beyond Maple Ave on M3, so for the time being all the action would be up on easy to photograph M1 and M2. Wow, you can’t beat that with a stick! All I needed now were some trains, but unfortunately the signals didn’t promise much; solid red westbound, defaults eastbound, and it stayed that way until a westbound commuter broke the monotony:

Waiting for the Barbarians

What are we waiting for, assembled in the forum?

The barbarians are to arrive today.

Why such inaction in the Senate?

Why do the Senators sit and pass no laws?

Because the barbarians are to arrive today.

What laws can the Senators pass any more?

When the barbarians come they will make the laws.

Why did our emperor wake up so early,

and sits at the greatest gate of the city,

on the throne, solemn, wearing the crown?

Because the barbarians are to arrive today.

And the emperor waits to receive

their chief. Indeed he has prepared

to give him a scroll. Therein he inscribed

many titles and names of honor.

Why have our two consuls and the praetors come out

today in their red, embroidered togas;

why do they wear amethyst-studded bracelets,

and rings with brilliant, glittering emeralds;

why are they carrying costly canes today,

wonderfully carved with silver and gold?

Because the barbarians are to arrive today,

and such things dazzle the barbarians.

Why don't the worthy orators come as always

to make their speeches, to have their say?

Because the barbarians are to arrive today;

and they get bored with eloquence and orations.

Why all of a sudden this unrest

and confusion. (How solemn the faces have become).

Why are the streets and squares clearing quickly,

and all return to their homes, so deep in thought?

Because night is here but the barbarians have not come.

And some people arrived from the borders,

and said that there are no longer any barbarians.

And now what shall become of us without any barbarians?

Those people were some kind of solution.
