Several hours later, we arrived, white-knuckled, to Zadar. The old town was, like many of the other places we visited, car-free and quite compact.
I don't know if it's just that Rick Steves' influence has a tendency to make or break tourism in a place, but the guy doesn't even MENTION Zadar in his guide to Croatia and Slovenia, and yet the place was more pleasant than many of the places he is on about and way, way less crowded.

In Potosi Bolivia you can get a tour of a working mine that has no safety regulations at all! No company owns the mine just miners who have stakes in different parts. This means no one is responsible for safety or controlling who enters the mine, allowing for silly tourists like me to visit and give them a few basic gifts (with a guide).
