Dating back to the 13th century, the castle was heavily restored in the 15th. Poligonal ground plan, double enclosure, with cues and square turrets, plus an artificial moat excavated in the rock. The castle uses part of the wall and preserves the remains of one front, with Romanesque elements.
The tower that serves as the tower of homage uses a different bonding that the rest of the castle. It used to be owned by the Herrera and the Velasco (Dukes of Frías) families. The sons of the king of France, Francisco I, were kept hostage in this castle.
The tower of Pedraza Castle houses the Zuloaga Museum, established by the heirs of the painter Ignacio Zuloaga.
The painter bought Pedraza Castle in 1926, and after restoring one of its towers, installed his studio there, where he painted landscapes and portraits of the village's residents. Ceramic pieces, paintings and drawings by Zuloaga are on display in the museum, along with paintings by other artists, including one of Christ by El Greco, a portrait of the Countess of Baena by Goya, and a 17th-century Flemish still life.
Pedraza is a municipality in Spain, located in the province of Segovia in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is located at 37 km northeast of the city of Segovia with a population of less than 500. It is a walled town known for its medieval buildings, including Pedraza Castle, which displays works by Basque painter Ignacio Zuloaga. The Romanesque San Juan Bautista Church presides over the plaza.
Every year in July, Pedraza holds the Concierto de las Velas festival during La Noche de las Velas. Residents of the town and surrounding cities light candles along the streets and residences. In the city center multiple concerts are held featuring varying types of Spanish classical music. Unfortunately in 2020 this event was cancelled due to Covid 19 but as many of the confinement restrictions had been lifted we were able to go there just for dinner.
Since 1550, the town has celebrated its annual Fiestas Patronales with a running of the bulls around the city wall and bullfighting in the Plaza Mayor.

Today I had a very interesting with the artist and he devoted much time to explaining many of the works on display in the Botainic Gardens [Sculpture In Context 2015].

An African legend states that spirits of dead beings choose trees as a resting place, between the worlds. A wood carver or sculptor has only to scratch away the surface of the wood to reveal the spirit inhabiting the tree. In African culture wood carvers are given a special place in the community, and are well respected for their creativity. They have the ability to show to everyone the beauty and magic that lurk in a dead piece of fire wood.

SMASHfestUK 2018 - Living in Space - behind the scenes of the co-creation process:
"If the world really was devastated by natural disaster, we might have no option except to look to space for a new home for civilisation - could it be the Moon? Could we live on Mars? What would it take to build a world in outer space? How could we resource ourselves out is space?" This was the question that drove our big Living in Space collaborative project through 2017, into 2018. Working with over 6000 members of the public across the UK, during 6 different events; bringing together 5 universities, 4 schools, 2 museums, a software company, Astrocymru and the Royal Astronomical Society, we created a multi-part, semi-immersive experience which debuted at SMASHfestUK FLOOD! 2018 in Deptford.
SMASHfestUK joined with Middlesex University, Deptford Green School, Llangatwg Community School, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College, Christ The King Sixth Form School, Monster Paw Games, Kerbal Space Program, Swansea University, Cardiff University, The National Museum of Wales, The Royal Observatory, Greenwich, Queen Mary University London, AstroCymru, and Dr. Sheila Kanani and Dr Lucinda Offer of the Royal Astronomical Society, in a project ‘Living in Space’ funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council. Building on projects funded by the UK Space Agency ‘Space for All’ and the Royal Academy of Engineering ‘INGENIOUS’, exploring ideas and creating experiences with a diverse group of public visitors, young people, and engineering, design, mathematics and science professional experts.
As we sat on the back of a Brisbane City Ferry, the fresh air whipping off the river churning behind us, I noticed this scene unfolding beneath me. Two buckets, ostensibly with which to extinguish a fire onboard our trusty vessel (which, due to the discovery of said buckets, was feeling rather less trustworthy). What good would these buckets do to extinguish a diesel fire? Why were these buckets kept outside the back of the vessel where they could rust? Why place these buckets over the engine compartment, where a fire is most likely to break out? Has the motion of the ferry on the usually still river, or some delinquent moved one bucket from its home? Perhaps it was not replaced with due care after its last use? Why are these buckets so inherently beautiful?
Instead of over-analysing the situation, I dropped to the floor to capture this scene. There's something peaceful about it, and I'm yet to work out why.
Delicate Arch is a 52-foot-tall (16 m) freestanding natural arch located in Arches National Park, near Moab in Grand County, Utah, United States. The arch is the most widely recognized landmark in Arches National Park and is depicted on Utah license plates and a postage stamp commemorating Utah's centennial anniversary of admission to the Union in 1996. The Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics passed through the arch.
Because of its distinctive shape, the arch was known as "the Chaps" and "the Schoolmarm's Bloomers" by local cowboys. Many other names have been applied to this arch including "Bloomers Arch", "Marys Bloomers", "Old Maids Bloomers", "Pants Crotch", "Salt Wash Arch", and "School Marms Pants". The arch was given its current name by Frank Beckwith, leader of the Arches National Monument Scientific Expedition, who explored the area in the winter of 1933–1934. Although there is a rumor that the names of Delicate Arch and Landscape Arch were inadvertently exchanged due to a signage mixup by the National Park Service (NPS), this is false.
This arch played no part in the original designation of the area as a national monument (Arches National Monument) in 1929, and was not included within the original boundaries; it was added when the monument was enlarged in 1938.
In the 1950s, the NPS investigated the possibility of applying a clear plastic coating to the arch to protect it from further erosion and eventual destruction. The idea was ultimately abandoned as impractical and contrary to NPS principles.
Delicate Arch is formed of Entrada Sandstone. The original sandstone fin was gradually worn away by weathering and erosion, leaving the arch. Other arches in the park were formed the same way but, due to placement and less dramatic shape, are not as famous.
During the summer, white-throated swifts (Aeronautes saxatalis) nest in the top of the arch.
