OK,
I got you to look at it..!
That was the easy part of the equation.
The harder part of the equation is to elicit an emotional response, to ask you to exit your comfort zone.
Less Is More..!
* The idea behind this image is to expose less information, to allow the imagination to fill in the empty space; the dark spaces on the screen..
* The object of utilizing Negative Space is to reveal a striking visual, using minimal information, but to do it in a way that asks the mind of the viewer to participate in the illusion; to create it's own dream about the information in the image.. Negative Space can help accomplish the task..
* Don't tell the entire story, let the viewer tell their own story about what they see, through the interface of their emotions...
* Let the viewer conjure their own emotions, instead of requiring the viewer to feel something specific..
* Ambiguity with a hint of Specificity in Juxtaposition.
* Let the viewer feel something for themselves, rather than dictating which emotions the viewer should experience..
* Stimulate reaction, but don't dictate the emotion.
* Keep it simple, and let the experience of simplicity be strong.
Art is a stain upon the mind... Let that stain be memorable, emotional and vibrant..
Give the participant something to feel...
Thank you to Kayla-Jane aka Tigersgirl.
My wife was watching some episodes of season 2 of Game of Thrones while I was working yesterday and now the phrase 'mother of dragons' has stuck in my head and gave me an idea.
So with that in mind... I've done a previous image with a 'bad dragon'. I wanted to even it out with a 'good dragon'. I was curious who was giving the gift to whom. What do you think?
The lovely Kayla-Jane was shot against grey so I could composite her, the rendered dragon, the backdrop and all the foreground elements together. I now have 3D models of grass and trees so I can create foreground elements on transparent layers that make the compositing process so much easier.
For anyone who's interested. I've just uploaded a brief 'making of' video. It's not hugely in-depth but does give a broad overview of how this image was made. Link below:
I have wanted, for a little while, to do an image based around fighting a dragon from horseback. Typically, I did one version using these characters and then tried another idea using the same rendered images. I like both so I thought 'what the hell', I'll put them both up.
This is actually the second version I created. Decided to keep it quite simple with some dramatic lighting. The other version (the forest version, which has a whole different feel to it) will follow soon :)

Using images I'd taken a while ago at my local beach - here's another 'keep it simple' composite with a stock photo which was shot against a grey background, so all my usual compositing techniques could be applied without modification.

I enjoyed finding little 'relationships' among my calla lilies this summer.. I revisited this one while archiving and deleting, and decided to go a little softer than I have been lately, and to let it have a little more traditional photographic look.
I was reading a story on Toronto's Michael Reichman, who, upon hearing a remark about how his work didn't "look like photography", responded that they Do look like photography looks Now.. they didn't look like photography Used to look...
and while I'm not at all proposing any sort of rollback, I had the thought in mind as I opened this one for another look. The smooth softly lit tonality of the foreground blossom seemed to call for a more traditional photographic look, while I went more contemporary, perhaps, with the second blossom and background tone/colors.
Or maybe I'm just making it up that way when I talk to myself, here... lol.
A blue and red tribal mask made from a composite image of a preening red-tailed black cockatoo. (My husband pointed out that it looks more like a bird mask when inverted.)

An images taking it's cue from the gangster movies of the 30's and 40's.
My model Sarah-Jane is shot against a neutral grey background and composited into the scene.
All backgrounds are themselves composites of various elements to create a 'hopefully' dramatic theatrical quality.

Following on from my Blood and madness image. Here's something with a similar vibe using another of my rendered 'sanatorium' images. Perhaps not quite as grim, with less blood, but melancholy nonetheless :)
After Lydia's comment.. subtitled: The Truth is In There!
another 'amazing circle' transformation, inserting the circle derived from the base image back into the image
I followed the procedure, first, as outlined here: brilliantdays.com/archives/2005/10/how_to_create_a.php ,
and in the flickr Amazing Circles group: www.flickr.com/groups/amazingcircles/discuss/116859/
I Am using the basic wondrous polar coordinates transformations as beautiful in and of themselves, but also as starting points for grounding them in their origins and/or creating new relationships for them.
Thank you MiraNox.
Android guards stand watch over a troublesome prisoner. However, she has a look on her face that, to my mind, says: 'I can break out of here anytime, no sweat'.
And lets face it. With boots like those, you could kick any androids ass, no problem!

If the previous image 'A survivor' was inspired by Metro 2033. Then this can only be inspired by the Rainbow 6 series of games :)
This is a photo/image manipulation using Photoshop elements/CS3, Corel paint shop pro X2 and Photofiltre.
I used a few stockimages to create this.
Credits go to the photographers/artists who made the pictures i used.

Needed to keep my hand in. It's been a little while since my last comp :)
Here I'm again playing around with the technique that Joe Grossinger, the Bird Man of El Paso turned me on to (he got the idea from icon_st ). Here's how it's done, though in this case, using a layer mask, I brushed away the effect from the bee.
In Photoshop:
1. Duplicate the layer
2. Goto Image->Adjustments->Invert (Basically do Negative)
3. Make sure the negative layer is selected and choose "color" blending option from the combo box just above that layer.
That's It !!
If you're using Photoshop Elements, as I was, step 2 would be filter->adjustments->invert
Model by Tigersgirl. The very lovely Kayla Jane.

Following on from the 'Unexpected Alliance' images. All her zombie comrades have fallen by the wayside, but our heroine soldiers on.
The model was shot against a dark grey background so it meant I could composite her into this rendered scene created in Daz Studio. Lots of blends, brushes and dodging and burning later... voila! I feel there's some climactic moment just ahead! :)
