I did not make this up. Google has these cheesy plastic icecubes that light up when you put them in liquid. Add vodka = googletini. It's so off-message.

This blood-filled mosquito was extracted from a cold drink, already stuck on an icecube on a sunny day in upstate New York. May be the most interesting picture I ever take.
Took in my first high school hockey game at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Here was the game between Saline High School and Dexter High School's varsity teams. Saline won 4-1 on the game played on a rainy and icy January evening. It was also Teacher Appreciation Night for Saline.

The LIGO device is actually a giant interferometer with two 4 km arms; you see the tunnel of one of them here. In the tunnel there is a high vacuum tube, to let a laser beam propagate without any disturbance, to a mirror at the other end and back to the center again, where the two beams interfere. The interference should change temporarily when a gravitational wave passes. Such waves are supposed to be generated by heavy celestial objects (black holes, neutron stars etc.) which collide into eachother, or get spinning around eachother.
