Friday evening, Feb 15th, at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts the Illinois Symphony Orchestra performed a special presentation of music from Disney movies, accompanied by clips and stills from the films! Trenches are full of dead Soviet soldiers. Repola,Rukajärvi. October 10th,1942.
When the Finnish 14th Division advanced towards the Rukajärvi municipality in the late-summer/autumn 1941, the Soviet recon-destroy patrols caused a remarkable threat for the Division's supply routes. During the Trench War era (12/1941-6/1944) the enemy operated there more actively than the Finns, sending several patrols through the lines, mainly using the Hiisjärvi Lake area in the north and the Ontajärvi Lake area in the south.
Due the lack of troops and the large sector the 14th Division was forced to position most of its troops to secure the main routes and the areas between them. The wilderness was controlled by field bases and patrols, so the Soviet patrols could go through quite easily. Causing not remarkable damages, though, pursuing them and securing the possible targets needed a lot of soldiers - who would've been needed elsewhere.
Maybe the most furious attack against the Finnish field bases is the Battle of Pallo, June 26-27 1943.

Jo etenemisvaiheessa loppukesällä ja syksyllä 1941 olivat vihollispartiot häirinneet 14. Divisioonan selustayhteyksiä sen edetessä Rukajärvelle. Asemasodan aikana suomalaislinjojen läpi tultiin pohjoisessa Hiisjärven suunnalla ja etelässä Ontajärven yli tai sen eteläpuolelta. Linjojen läpäisyä helpotti se, että yhteinäisten linnoitusketjujen asemesta korpialueita valvottiin kenttävartioin ja niiden välisin yhteyspartioin.
Joukkojensa vähäisyyden ja valvottavan alueen laajuuden vuoksi Divisioonan oli keskityttävä saavutetun linjan pitämiseen ja tiesuuntien varmistamiseen. Vihollisen aktiivisuuden vuoksi erämaa-alueiden kenttävartiot olivat jatkuvassa valmiustilassa. Neuvostopartoiden aiheuttamat tuhot eivät sinänsä olleet merkittäviä, mutta niiden jäljittäminen ja mahdollisten kohteiden varmistaminen sitoivat voimia, joita olisi tarvittu etulinjassa.
Rukajärven suunnan kenttävartioihin suunnatuista hyökkäyksistä ehkä tunnetuin on Pallon taistelu 26.-27.6.1943.

This is a city of 150000 people near Barcelona where our group ended up tonight.
I´ll be late for dinner because I have to wait for a slow USB1 connection while burning my photos on a DVD in an internet cafe. But at least I get free space on my card for pictures of Barcelona.
I now found out why we ended in Sabadell instead of Barcelona. Barcelona is expensive and prone to overbooking so that you have a chance to end up in Sabadell anyway after some extra hassle instead of the Barcelona hotel you booked. So the travel agent decided that it made more sense to go straight to Sabadel to a good and less expensive hotel. I still don't like it. The advantage besides the price is that they have a competent cook in the hotel Sabadell which seems to be rare in spanish hotels. The other one is I have time to spend in an internet cafe. I still would prefer a hotel in Barcelona. And even more so after spending my last evening in Spain in Barcelona.

K100D, Developed in Lightroom 3 from RAW. 3200 pushed 1.25 stops in Lightroom (ISO 6400+). Noise reduction applied in LR3. I think it is cleaner than the K-7 shot, but the lack of shadows in this shot does give it the advantage.

Also, there's been a firmware update that's supposed to fix the banding, this camera didn't have the latest firmware.
