Moscow Metro, Moscow, Russia.

When it opened on 15 May 1935, the Moscow metro was a subterranean Communist paradise: its chandeliers, marble, intricate mosaics and heroic statues created an opulent space that was accessible for the city’s workers. Eighty years on, it transports up to nine million people a day, with expansion plans set to make it the world’s fourth largest subway system by 2020.

Couldn't compose this very well to get the right angle without trampling on the flowers & wouldn't do that even for the sake of a decent pic!

Our minds seeks for structure / and more so / under intricate circumstances.

The image shows a visually striking scene featuring a goddess-like figure seated in a confident pose before a massive, ornate clock adorned with intricate golden designs. The figure is dressed in a dramatic outfit that blends futuristic and ancient aesthetics, including metallic gold armor and an elaborate headdress with fan-like extensions. Her long, wavy hair cascades over her shoulders, and her arms are raised gracefully.

The clock serves as the central backdrop, symbolizing the passage of time, with Roman numerals prominently displayed around its circular face. The structure surrounding the clock is grand, with metallic and gold accents and decorative patterns that evoke a sense of opulence and power. The sky behind the clock is moody, with clouds partially illuminated by sunlight, adding depth and drama to the composition.

The overall vibe is majestic and otherworldly, portraying themes of time, strength, and divinity.

That's what Chat GPT had to say about my sl photo.

Griffith Observatory is a facility in Los Angeles, California sitting on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles' Griffith Park. It commands an outstanding view of the Los Angeles Basin, including Downtown Los Angeles to the southeast, Hollywood to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. The observatory is a popular tourist attraction with an extensive array of space and science-related displays.

I have no idea what to call this... it reminds me of miniature fireworks but it is actually the reproductive parts of a plant that I photographed in southern Florida during the winter months.

The photo was taken during daylight but it had many distracting elements in the background so I darkened the background.

The famous white temple in Mandalay is the "Hsinbyume Pagoda" or "Myatheindan Pagoda." It's an iconic Buddhist temple with unique whitewashed architecture resembling the mythical Mount Meru. Commissioned by King Bagyidaw in 1816 in memory of his wife, Princess Hsinbyume, the temple symbolizes the seven mountain ranges encircling Mount Meru. Its design represents Buddhist cosmology and is adorned with intricate details, reflecting Mandalay's rich cultural heritage and spiritual significance.

Tbilisi is the capital and largest city of Georgia, situated in the eastern part of the country along the banks of the Kura River. The city has a rich history that spans over 1,500 years and has been influenced by various cultures and civilizations throughout the centuries. Tbilisi was founded in the 5th century by the Georgian King Vakhtang I Gorgasali. According to legend, the king discovered the warm sulfur springs during a hunting expedition and decided to build a city at that location. Over the centuries, Tbilisi has been influenced by different empires, including the Persians, Arabs, Mongols, Ottomans, and Russians, leading to a rich and diverse cultural mix. The old town center is a maze of narrow streets with traditional houses, balconies, and churches, and it also houses the famous sulfur baths. From the entrance portal of the church you can see the old city walls and the Semeba Cathedral. The Sameba Cathedral, also known as the Holy Trinity Cathedral, is the largest church in Georgia and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Situated on Elijah Hill, the cathedral dominates the landscape of Tbilisi. Construction began in 1995 and was completed in 2004, as a symbol of Georgian religious revival after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The cathedral, with its golden dome, incorporates both traditional and modern elements in its architecture, and serves as the spiritual center of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

From the window of the entrance portal of the Metekhi Church, you are treated to a breathtaking view that includes both the ancient city walls of Tbilisi and the grand Sameba Cathedral. The historic city walls, winding along the hills, stand as a reminder of the city’s rich past, having defended Tbilisi through centuries of invasions and rebuilding. These ancient fortifications offer a glimpse into the resilient spirit of the old city. In the distance, the towering Sameba Cathedral, also known as the Holy Trinity Cathedral, rises above the modern parts of the city. One of the largest Orthodox churches in the world, it dominates the skyline with its golden dome, symbolizing the religious and cultural revival of Georgia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

This photograph captures the grand façade of a historic building in Bari, Italy. The central focus is a large wooden door with intricate paneling, surrounded by a stone frame adorned with classical architectural details. Above the door, a sculptural ensemble includes three figures: a central statue likely depicting a saint or the Virgin Mary, flanked by two smaller statues of religious figures. These sculptures are housed in niches with ornamental arches, demonstrating a blend of Renaissance and Baroque influences.

The weathered stone façade showcases a beautiful patina, revealing the passage of time. The contrast between the warm tones of the wood and the pale beige of the stone emphasizes the craftsmanship of the structure. The columns on either side of the door feature Corinthian capitals, adding an air of elegance and grandeur to the composition. A small cross is embedded into the wall to the right of the door, subtly reinforcing the religious significance of the site.

In the foreground, four people sit casually on the stone steps leading to the door, lending a human scale to the monumental architecture. Their relaxed postures and modern clothing provide a striking contrast to the historical setting, suggesting this is a living, active part of the city. The paved stone square in front of the building reflects the bright sunlight, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere characteristic of southern Italy.

The lake in the middle of the Lion Forest Garden in Suzhou. The building in the distance is the Asking Prunus Mume Pavilion and the pagoda on the right is the Mid-lake Pavilion.

The Lion Forest Garden is another renowned garden in Suzhou. It's best known for its intricate stone work with stones from Taihu Lake and was built in 1342 although it had fallen into disrepair over the years and was restored in 1926. The owners who restored it, the Bei family, donated it to the Chinese government in 1949 and China opened it to the public in 1954.

it's amazing all the different ways that sandstone can erode!

Intricate cascading patterns from a small waterfall adjacent the main Bastion Cascades walk last year. We'll hopefully be heading off the Queensland in a week and fingers crossed tracks are open to be able to explore more of the forests and waterfalls on offer!

I never tire looking at the amazing plumage of a cock Pheasant. The colours and intricate patterns are so beautiful. A work of art.

In this detailed capture of the Orcinus Skipper (*Udranomia orcinus*), I sought to highlight the intricate beauty of this often-overlooked butterfly species. The photo was taken at the Emerald Valley Nature Center near Lake Yojoa, Honduras, a location known for its rich biodiversity and lush, tropical environment. The image presents the skipper in a moment of stillness, perched delicately on a cluster of white flowers. The contrasting deep brown wings with white and blue markings are brought to life against the soft, blurred background, creating a striking yet harmonious composition.

From a technical perspective, I utilized a Canon setup, zooming out to 521mm to ensure I captured the fine details without disturbing the butterfly. The shot was taken at 1/750 second, f/11, and ISO 3200, settings carefully chosen to balance the depth of field and exposure, allowing for sharp focus on the skipper while maintaining a gentle bokeh in the background. The composition draws the viewer's eye directly to the butterfly’s delicate patterns and textures, highlighting the natural beauty that is often missed in such small subjects. This photograph is a reminder of the fleeting moments that nature offers, captured through patience and precision.

Rising from the ashes — The Final Score.

Chris Roark is known for producing a number of award-winning lowrider vehicles, many benefitting from numerous unique parts designed and machined by Roark himself. His “Final Score” has racked up titles that include Lowrider’s Lowrider of the Year from 2015-2017, Best Custom at both the Grand National Roadster Show and the Sacramento Autorama, and Best in Show at the Rick Ross Car Show.

Built in Roark’s shop, C&C Customs in Vacaville, California, “Final Score” presents many hallmarks of a quintessential modern lowrider car: the extremely lowered stance; vibrant candy and metal-flake paint with graphics and pinstriping; airbrushed murals; a custom interior; intricate engraving; wire wheels; a decorated engine and undercarriage; and countless other remarkable details throughout. Additional modifications include a one-off grille, a single-piece front bumper with a “frenched-in” (recessed) license plate, and shaved door handles and cowl. The car’s creation over four years is even more impressive considering the Impala was in shambles when the work began, having sat in Roark’s garage for 20 years.

Sometimes you just have to step back and examine the intricacies of life. That means pulling a cushioned rocking chair into the shade and taking the time to sip a glass of green tea while you watch the dragonflies buzzing around. Sounds like a plan for today too.

They make a wonderful addition to any fall garden.

Lady Chapel

Westminster Abbey

London, England

03-19-25

An extreme wide angle view looking up at the intricate ceiling of the "new" Lady Chapel addition to Westminster Abbey. Ordered and constructed in 1503-1519 by Henry VII to replace the 13th Century chapel.

If you visit magnificent buildings like Westminster Abbey and don't look up, you're missing half the experience.

From the Westminster Abbey website: The Perpendicular architecture here is in total contrast to the rest of the Abbey. No accounts for this building have been found but it is thought that the architects were Robert Janyns and William Vertue. It has been called "one of the most perfect buildings ever erected in England" and "the wonder of the world". Henry spent lavish sums on its decoration. The glory of the chapel is its delicately carved fan vaulted roof, with hanging pendants. These are constructed on half-concealed transverse arches.

When Asparagus stops producing Spears it puts up large feathery bushy branches that can grow up to 6 feet tall. We had rain last night and it clung to the ferns. Knowing how to take care of them can be somewhat intricate & involved.
