Happy Summer! ☀️

The Bow Bridge/ˈboʊ/ is a cast iron bridge located in Central Park, New York City, crossing over the Lake and used as a pedestrian walkway.[1]

It is decorated with an interlocking circles banister, with eight planting urns on top of decorative bas-relief panels. Intricate arabesque elements and volutes can be seen underneath the span arch. Its 87-foot-long (27 m) span is the longest of the park's bridges, though the balustrade is 142 feet (43 m) long.[2][3][4] While other bridges in Central Park are inconspicuous, the Bow Bridge is made to stand out from its surroundings.[5] The Bow Bridge is also the only one of Central Park's seven ornamental iron bridges that does not traverse a bridle path.[6]

The bridge was designed by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould, and completed in 1862.[3][4] It was built by the Bronx-based iron foundry Janes, Kirtland & Co., the same company that constructed the dome of U.S. Capitol Building.[7] The bridge was restored in 1974.[3][4][8]

Small and rotund with intricate brown, black, and white patterning. Some striking variation in plumage across range. Most males, including those in the eastern U.S., have bold black and white head pattern and heavy white spotting on belly. In Mexico, males can be entirely cinnamon-colored below and have a fully black head; some might have a white eyebrow or a dark chest band. Females are more consistent throughout range: look for buffy throat and eyebrow. Pairs or small groups are found in scrubby fields and brushy woods. Usually on the ground, but occasionally perches in trees when singing. The only quail native to the eastern U.S., where populations are declining sharply. Listen for distinctive “bob-WHITE!” whistle. (eBird)

-----------------

They really do call "Bob-white" in the most amazingly loud voice. We heard this one long before we saw him. His mate showed up briefly, but stayed hidden deep in the undergrowth.

The story of autumn?... Will you tell me about the leaves that dance? (and the girl remembered how she imagined the leaves dancing in the sunset)

Of course I will... and of clouds that bring rain and cold... (whispered the wind)

And then we go back to the story of the old lady? (asked the little girl)

Hahaha... that's the same story... (laughed the wind)

It has clouds, it has rain and dancing leaves... and mist... (whispered more the wind)...

Mist? What is mist?... (asked the curious girl)... It sounds so mysterious... (continued the girl)

I just love the amazing geological formations one can observe in the relatively young Icelandic landscape. There is so much so see and like as this image hopefully may illustrate :)

Chive flowers are incredibly detailed. There are times that the flowers are covered in bees, so I was especially pleased to capture all the intricate flowers within the softness of the whole purple beauty.

One summer morning after a heavy dew fell overnight, I spotted this intricate spider web. It was woven on and around some rhododendron leaves. The first thing I thought of was that the web and leaves were shaped just like a sailboat.

Found this old jewel box in one my cupboards . The patterns and inlays are slowly peeling off but the work is still exquisite.

Took the photo in bright sunlight. on a white background .

The design and pattern on this box is found in many traditional and ancient Indian items.

I liked the long icicles that covered over the main falls and the contrasting color of the oak leaf.

On my visit to Nerstrand Big Woods State Park I initially set up at the base of the main falls to capture the intricate shapes of the icicles. Fresh snow had gathered on the ice and along the base where a red oak leaf offered some color.

There are actually three red oak leaves in this image, can you find the others?

(Hint: Look along the top edge.)

Well-camouflaged chickenlike bird. Intricately patterned plumage varies from cold gray to rich reddish-brown. Look for relatively long, squared tail with dark band near the tip, bold barring on the sides, and small pointed crest. Typically shy and difficult to see well. Often flushed from the forest floor, exploding into the air with a startling burst of wingbeats and then gliding down towards the next hiding place. Sometimes ventures onto roadsides to pick up grit. In spring, males beat their wings to produce a distinctive low-pitched drumming sound. Widespread and locally fairly common across northern North America, from the Appalachians to Alaska. Especially fond of forested areas with dense understory and secondary growth. (eBird)

My husband saw this well-camouflaged bird standing quietly in the grasses beside the trail. The bird waited patiently for us to go away, but when it became evident that we were interested in him, he ducked under the log and walked away. Shortly after, we experienced the adrenaline-pumping explosion of a second grouse from the other side of the trail. Quite a shock. It was wonderful to see this handsome bird, though. Usually, my year bird tick is based solely on his almost sub-sonic drumming during the spring.

A surprise find during one of our Christmas Bird Counts in December. This grouse plus three of its siblings were walking through the trees beside the road. He hopped up onto a low tree branch for a moment, giving me a chance to take a quick photo. Not the greatest photo, but a nice reminder of a welcome find for the day.
