Relying totally on the colours and the interplay between the light and the dark, this photograph still manages to capture my own personal interest.
This was my favorite shot today. I was especially pleased with the green bokeh created by the greenery and sun interplaying in the background.
Entrance to Energizer Park, home of the St Louis City Football Club in St Louis, Missouri. I took this just before the break of dawn. I love the interplay of light along the stone steps, hand railings, and stadium columns & seating. It's an amazing stadium nestled in the heart of St Louis! Artist Statement:
In this painting, I explore the interplay between light and shadow in a landscape both vibrant and otherworldly. The scene captures an early autumn afternoon where the landscape seems to pulse with an intense energy. The bright, almost supernatural light spills across a hillside, casting dramatic, undulating shadows that evoke a sense of movement, as if the earth itself is shifting under the weight of the sunlight.
The grass on the hillside glows, its soft green tones saturated by the warmth of the low angle sun, while the dark contrasts of the ground's natural topography create a rhythm, inviting the viewer to trace the flow of the land.
At the heart of this scene, the red trees seem to burn with light themselves, their branches reaching out in a fiery display, backlit by the late-afternoon sun. These trees, standing along the lower third of the composition, convey both a sense of fragility and resilience, as though their vibrant colours defy the inevitable quieting of the season.
In the foreground, the field is calmer—its soft glow still touched by the warmth of the sun, where the bright light seems to embrace the landscape’s natural serenity. Scattered in this peaceful space are a few sheep, delicately placed within the scene to suggest a humble, almost tentative presence amidst the overwhelming force of nature’s light.

Backlighting with Autumn Trees and glowing fields, Aberdeenshire in the Don valley.

It's the sight of vibrant autumn leaves scattered against a backdrop of freshly fallen snow, or the scent of spring flowers blooming amidst the lingering chill of winter. This juxtaposition creates a unique visual and sensory experience, highlighting the beauty of transition and the coexistence of opposites. It evokes a sense of wonder and introspection, reminding us of the cyclical nature of time and the ever-changing tapestry of life. In these moments, we witness the harmonious dance of past and future, of endings and beginnings, all within the same frame of existence.

For me, I enjoy finding a mushroom emerging from the lush moss and weeds, especially when I have a longish lens. Using it with an extension tube creates a soft, mystical look, capturing the scene's ethereal beauty. The interplay of textures - the infocused mushroom cap, the fuzzy moss, the tangled weeds - makes for a visually striking composition, well, to me. I find it necessary to adjust the EV.

This is an image from my recent Tethered project.
Tethered is a mixed-media project blending photography, animation, and traditional darkroom techniques with experimental processes and tactile materials. Through themes of grounding and isolation, freedom and rootedness, attachment and separation, the project weaves a visual narrative that explores the dualities of connection and solitude. Incorporating materials like thread, rope, food coloring, and elements inspired by landscapes, Tethered emphasizes the materiality of the medium, encouraging viewers to engage physically and emotionally. The addition of animation introduces a dynamic interplay between energy and stillness, enhancing the work’s exploration of landscapes as spaces of reflection, distance, and connection. By merging tactile elements with experimental approaches, Tethered invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship to place, identity, and the tension between solitude and belonging.

Other-worldly scenes like this are not uncommon in the Crete Senesi. The interplay of the sun hiding behind clouds creates rolling bright spots on the already rolling hills. Yet another magical natural phenomenon in a region replete with them.

What could be better than going for a walk in the woods? The colors of the fresh leaves, the damp forest air, the interplay of the sun's rays.
The time window for a photo like this is only about ten minutes.
Before that, the remaining daylight is still too strong, and the city lights can’t yet assert themselves.
Ten minutes later, the late blue hour fades into night – the blue tones on the rooftops disappear, and everything drifts toward black.
The margin is tiny, but if you hit it just right, you’re rewarded with a magical interplay of warm and cool tones – the image begins to glow.
Those ten minutes are also needed to capture a full exposure series, leaving almost no room for timing errors.
This technique allows for an extremely wide dynamic range, reduces noise even further, and enhances both detail and clarity.
