This old dead branch is laid out on a bed of beautiful windflowers. You can not show the interplay of end and new beginning more beautiful than that way. One thing is passing and something new is arising.

there is nothing more cliche, albeit a beautiful one, than the interplay of snow-capped mountains and the sea in AK - HCS!

I can't resist going down the coast if there's any chance of some light and cloud interplay. On days when Southerndown is free of people, Witches Point is a great place to watch the day softly fade to night. The only reflections this night were in the space between the waves, so there was lots of kneeling on wet sand, and moving quickly. I love this track, and I think Frank Zappa just did the best guitar solos ever, so What's new in Baltimore it is .

In this image, you see the architectural essence of the Mercedes-Benz Museum's central atrium, designed by the Dutch architects UNStudio.

The dynamic, asymmetrical curves and concrete structures are typical of the deconstructivist style, symbolising innovation and fluidity.

The interplay of light and material enhances the museum's futuristic atmosphere, guiding visitors upwards through its spiralling design, reflecting both movement and progress.

Taken with my 7Artisans 9mm lens.

A design that practically begs to be captured in black and white.

For me always fascinating, the interplay of light and water, viewed through a macro lens.

Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. It developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers and became the deepest lake in Iceland. It is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland. The icebergs calve from the glacier edge and are seen in milky white (from the air trapped within the ice), bright blue (which is an interplay of light and ice crystals), and black (from volcanic ash).

This might just be the best Manx sunset I’ve ever seen or photographed! This 7-image panorama was captured back in December from the summit of Sartfell looking southwest as the Isle of Man was engulfed by a dense blanket of sea mist. The hills and valleys around Little London captured the interplay between mist and light superbly. I particularly loved how the peaks of South Barrule, Cronk Ny Arrey Laa and Slieau Whallian in the distance were all transformed into isolated islands in an endless ocean of cloud. Nature really can be mind-bendingly beautiful at times!

Out for a walk yesterday evening and passed under this bridge over the canal. I have been through here many times before, but this time the interplay of the light with the graffiti and its reflection made a pleasing composition.

St John the Baptist (Markyate, Hertfordshire) is an 18th century Anglican church and, here, illuminated by the bright winter sun against a dark sky. How to understand the interplay of light and darkness is the essence of photography - it is also the main thread that is running through the Christian narrative. Fuji X-Pro3.

"The river flows, and so does life; find your quiet harbor."

A serene landscape captured with a focus on the interplay of water, land, and sky along the Nile River.

A small, rustic wooden boat moored in calm blue water is positioned in the lower-left foreground, acting as a clear point of interest and adding a human element to the natural scene.

The horizontal line of the lush, palm-lined riverbank and the expanse of water create a sense of depth and tranquility. The inclusion of the bird in flight, in the upper frame, adds dynamic interest and balances the composition.

Natural sunlight is illuminating the scene while the vibrant blue of the water contrasts with the earthy tones of the boat and the greens of the vegetation.

The ripples on the water's surface, the weathered wood of the boat, and the distinct fronds of the palm trees provide textural variety.

Like a river, life is always in motion and constantly changing.

A powerful symbol often associated with life, change, and the flow of time. The bird soaring in the sky symbolizes freedom, hope, transcendence, or a spiritual connection. It can also represent perspective or a higher viewpoint.

The combination of these elements evokes a sense of tranquility, timelessness, and the enduring connection between humanity and nature.

For several weeks, I kept looking up at this interplay of light and shadows on my fireplace mantel. What to do? A photo, of course!

A broad immersive view of a tranquil waterscape at sunrise featuring Luxor city skyline silhouetted against a colorful gradient sky. The water reflects the sky's hues and shows gentle ripples in the foreground.

The lighting is characterized by the warm, golden hues near the horizon transitioning to cooler blues and purples in the upper sky. The water reflects these colors, creating a vibrant and harmonious palette. The contrast between the illuminated sky and the silhouetted city adds visual interest.

Gentle ripples or waves are visible in the immediate foreground of the water, adding a sense of movement to the otherwise still scene and create a leading line, drawing the viewer's eye into the scene.

A strong horizontal composition, with the horizon line divide the frame into sky and water. The cityscape on the far bank provides a middle ground, adding depth and a sense of place.

The emphasis is on the tranquil atmosphere and the interplay of light and reflection.

The soft lighting and calm water evoke a sense of peace, tranquility, and perhaps a touch of nostalgia or wonder, characteristic of golden hour photography.

Drawing: charcoal on canvas

Title: Untitled, from the Penumbra series, 2019

Artist ; Danja Akulin (1977)

Danja Akulin wants to make drawings that look like paintings. Layer by layer, he applies his charcoal in every direction, creating painterly relief on the canvas.

The artist himself:

"I tried out all sorts of disciplines, before I realized I could express a lot more in pencil or charcoal than I could with brush and pint. By working on a large scale, I stress the fact that my drawings are autonomous works a lot".

Akulin is interested in the interplay of light and dark, or 'Penumbra'. This is the title of a series of drawings, with landscapes in what appears to be moonlight or a solar eclipse.

The artist views these as conceptual works, in which black stands for the darkest emotions and white the lightest.

Museum MORE, Gorssel, The Netherlands, had last year an interesting exhibition called 'Size Matters | Monumental Drawings', where you could see dozens of large-scale and imposing drawings. All these works of art measure at least 2 meters in height of width, larger than most people themselves.

I visited this exhibition, just a day before it ended and was quite impressed. I will show you a few works. Enjoy ;-))

A vibrant display of illuminated ornate lamps and lanterns hanging from a ceiling, within a market, where every lantern tells a story of light. The sheer number and variety of lamps hanging from the ceiling create a striking visual display, making the scene unique and captivating.

The variety of metallic lamps, some with intricate cut-out patterns creating decorative light effects, are suspended at different heights, filling the frame. The lighting creates a warm, inviting ambiance, highlighting the detailed craftsmanship of the fixtures.

The low-angle shot, looking upwards, emphasizes the density and intricate patterns of the lighting fixtures. The depth of field appears somewhat shallow, bringing the foreground and midground lanterns into focus while the background elements are slightly softer, creating a sense of depth.

The scene is illuminated primarily by the warm glow emanating from within the lanterns themselves. This creates a rich, atmospheric lighting scheme with strong contrasts between the illuminated patterns and the darker, unlit portions of the fixtures and ceiling. The interplay of light and shadow highlights the detailed craftsmanship of the lanterns.

The dominant colors are warm tones of brass, copper, and the soft yellow/orange of the light, contrasted with darker, possibly aged metal or wood of the ceiling and some of the larger, solid bells. The textures appear varied, from smooth, polished metal to intricately perforated patterns that cast unique light designs.

The warm glow emanating from the lamps creates a distinctive and inviting ambiance evoking a sense of warmth, exoticism, and intricate beauty.

Dumps in former mining areas have become part of the landscape over time. This is exactly what the Förderverein Bergbau Erbe Saar e.V. Ensdorf/Saar did not want to happen. It wanted "a symbol for the 250-year mining tradition on the Saar... and for the necessary new beginning and structural change thereafter! "He succeeded in doing this by organising a competition and the winning project by Pfeiffer Sachse Architekten. The Duhamel slag heap is once again becoming a landmark. A new unity emerges from the interplay between the heaviness of the slag heap and the lightness of the polygon. Both the slag heap and the project reinforce each other's effect. Although static as an object, the polygon appears almost kinetic and has a completely different effect depending on the view. Sometimes almost unstable, like a triangle on a point, sometimes broadly dominant. From a distance, the figure is almost intriguing because it cannot be grasped directly. Then, on the approach and ascent, it disappears, only to unfold all the more dramatically in all its facets on arrival at the plateau. The polygon becomes both a stage for the far-reaching view and a magnet for the view from a distance, a land art that also fulfils a functional function as a viewing platform. With simple means from the production of industrial culture, a spatial framework made of sectional steel has been created here, a sculpture that emerged from local steel production. A complex effect was achieved with simple means. The artificial light effect has also emerged from the structure and enhances its effect at dusk with discreet use. This project between land art and steel construction is an extremely successful sign for the client, the architects and engineers. It is an understandable and at the same time an emotional project for everyone, far beyond the region.

A moment of tranquil rest amidst ancient walls. A scenic framing with architectural elements and a sleeping dog, employing several visual elements.

Leading lines created by the wall and the shadow line on the ground are drawing the viewer's eye towards the minaret in the background. The dog is positioned in the foreground, creating a point of interest and adding a sense of scale and life to the otherwise static architectural scene. The minaret acts as a strong vertical element, contrasting with the horizontal lines of the wall.

The strong sunlight creates a dramatic contrast between the brightly lit wall and the deep shadow cast across the foreground. This interplay of light and shadow adds depth and texture to the scene, highlighting the rough surface of the brickwork and the texture of the ground. The dog is partially in shadow, which adds a sense of tranquility and emphasizes its relaxed posture.

The image juxtaposes the ancient architecture of a mosque with a common street dog. This contrast between the grandeur of the past and the simplicity of everyday life creates an interesting narrative. The sleeping dog suggests a peaceful and calm atmosphere, despite the potentially bustling environment outside the frame.

The dominant colors are warm earth tones from the brickwork and ground, contrasted with the clear blue sky. The dog's fur also blends with these warm tones, creating a harmonious color scheme that evokes a sense of sun-drenched warmth.

Shot from the majestic Mosque of Ibn Tulun in old Cairo. Built between 876 and 879 AD, it's known for its high walls topped with crenulations and its distinctive spiral minaret. The mosque's large compound provides a sense of majestic serenity.

Mammoth Hot Springs is a large complex of hot springs on a hill of travertine in Yellowstone National Park adjacent to Fort Yellowstone and the Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District. It was created over thousands of years as hot water from the spring cooled and deposited calcium carbonate. Because of the huge amount of geothermal vents, travertine flourishes.

Palette Spring is a natural hot spring located in the Mammoth region of Wyoming. This attraction offers visitors an opportunity to witness the mesmerizing interplay of colors created by the minerals in the spring’s water, which are a direct result of the geothermal activity in the area. The vibrant hues, ranging from deep blues to rich oranges, create a picturesque scene.

As I stroll through the charming streets of Sarlat-la-Canéda in the Dordogne, I am immediately captivated by the breathtaking scene before me. The narrow cobblestone street stretches out gracefully, adorned with facades of weathered yellow stone that exude a timeless elegance. The warm hues of the stone create a cozy and inviting atmosphere, adding to the allure of this picturesque town.

As I continue my leisurely walk, my senses are awakened by the delightful aromas wafting from the many restaurants lining the street. The tantalizing scents of freshly baked bread, aromatic herbs, and sizzling local delicacies permeate the air, enticing me to indulge in the culinary delights that Sarlat-la-Canéda is renowned for.

In the mirror of the Alps

There are of course countless photos of Lake Eibsee everywhere, but it always shows the impressive tranquillity and majesty of an Alpine landscape.

Although it has been overrun for years, there are moments when you can admire the untouched beauty of nature.

At Lake Eibsee, the interplay of water, forest and mountains forms a harmonious whole and I think it is a paradise for landscape photography.

Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake in southern part of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland. Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers. It is now about 8 km away from the ocean's edge and covers an area of about 18 km2. In 2009 it was reported to be the deepest lake in Iceland, at over 284 m, as glacial retreat extended its boundaries. The size of the lake has increased fourfold since the 1970s.

The lake can be seen from Route 1 between Höfn and Skaftafell. It appears as "a ghostly procession of luminous blue icebergs".

Jökulsárlón has been a setting for four Hollywood movies: A View to a Kill, Die Another Day, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Batman Begins, as well as the reality TV series The Amazing Race. In 1991, Iceland issued a postage stamp, with a face value of 26 kronur, depicting Jökulsárlón.

The Jökulsárlón lake provides outstanding views of the ice cap, a vast dome of ice that rises to a height of 3,000 ft. It spills to the lagoon 12 mi away from the jagged glacier hill to the edge of the water line. The lake developed only about 60 years ago (1948 is mentioned), when the entire area was less than 100 ft of glacier, which was only 250 yd from the Atlantic Ocean, and 2 mi away from Vatnajökull. Vatnajökull was at the shore line of the ocean and dropped icebergs into the ocean. However, it started drifting inland rapidly every year, leaving deep gorges en route, which got filled with melted water and large chunks of ice. These icebergs gather at the mouth of the lake's shallow exit, melt down into smaller ice blocks, and roll out into the sea. In summer, icebergs melt and roll down the channel into the sea. The lake does not freeze in winter. Ice water and soil make a unique ecological phenomenon.[citation needed] Jökulsárlón Lake, the "glacier lake", is now reported to have doubled in size in the recent 15-year period. The huge blocks of ice that calve from the edge of Vatnajökull are about 30 m high, which fills the lagoon stocked with icebergs. Some icebergs appear naturally sculpted on account volcanic ash from ancient eruptions that partly covers them.

The icebergs that calve from the glacier edge move towards the river mouth and get entrenched at the bottom. The movement of the icebergs fluctuates with the tide currents, as well as being affected by wind. However, they start floating as icebergs when their size is small enough to drift to the sea. These icebergs are seen in two shades: milky white and bright blue, which depends on the air trapped within the ice and is an interplay of light and ice crystals.

Photographing gum trees and showcasing their natural beauty can be rewarding. Here are some tips to help you capture stunning shots:

Photographing Gum Trees

Lighting: Early morning or late afternoon provides the best natural light. The golden hour adds a warm glow to the scene, highlighting the textures and colors of the bark.

Angles and Composition: Experiment with different angles. Shooting from a low angle can emphasize the height and grandeur of the trees. Including the surrounding landscape can provide context and contrast.

Focus on Details: Close-up shots of the bark, leaves, and branches can highlight the unique textures and patterns of gum trees. Look for interesting shapes and colors.

Weather Conditions: Cloudy days can provide soft, diffused light, reducing harsh shadows. On sunny days, the interplay of light and shadow can create dramatic effects.

Equipment: A wide-angle lens can capture the full height and canopy of the trees, while a macro lens is great for detailed shots of the bark and leaves.

Showcasing Your Photos

Editing: Use photo editing software to enhance colors, contrast, and sharpness. Be careful not to overdo it—aim for a natural look.

Presentation: Consider printing your photos and displaying them in frames. This adds a tangible element to your work.

Online Sharing: Share your photos on social media platforms or photography forums. Engage with other photographers to get feedback and improve your skills.

Portfolio: Create an online portfolio to showcase your best work. This can be a personal website or a dedicated account on a photo-sharing site.

Photographing nature requires patience and a keen eye for detail. Take your time to explore different perspectives and enjoy the process. 🌳

The Château d'Olemps was built at the end of the 16th century by Hugues Caulet, a resident of the town of Rodez who owned a mill at the Monastery and held several seigniories. The building is a fine example of the Louis XIII style of architecture, the most obvious characteristic of which is the interplay of polychromy: slate and red sandstone (instead of brick in the rest of the kingdom)

which contrasted with the limestone.

I love the interplay between clouds and mountains and few places are better for enjoying this than the Isle Of Skye. This is Sgurr Nan Gillean at Sligachan.

I was fortunate several years ago to spend time in Africa. For a nature lover, it's a dream come true. I know that many people don't get why some are attracted to the interplay between predator and prey, but nothing gets my heart pumping and my emotions so out of control as a hunt. It's more than the spectacle, it's the raw emotions such sights engender. Stay safe out there, that virus is a predator in our midst. Let's defeat it!

Published in the U.K.'s Building mag from 8 March 2012 as a photo of the week.

One of the truely outstanding bluebells sites in southern England is Dockey Wood, part of the Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire. The sun shining through the tree trunks made for a nice interplay of light and shadow as the flowers marched up the hill.

Bathed in soft, ethereal light, this photograph captures a quiet moment of devotion inside an Orthodox Church in Tbilisi, Georgia. The intricate frescoes, golden icons, and graceful arches speak of deep-rooted tradition and sacred artistry. A lone worshipper stands in prayer, adding a human connection to the spiritual ambience. The interplay of light and shadow brings a serene solemnity to the scene, reflecting the profound sense of peace and reverence that fills this timeless sanctuary.

Scenic framing of a serene seascape under a dramatic cloudy sky. Rays of sunlight pierce through the clouds illuminating parts of the water with a shimmering reflection.

On the right side of the frame, a rocky coastline just out into the water providing a contrast and emphasizing the natural landscape. A lone bird, likely a Reef Heron, on the edge of the rocks is overlooking the sea. A tiny detail that adds a touch of life and emphasizes the vastness of the natural environment.

The water appears calm, reflecting the light from the sky. Sunbeams pierce through the clouds, casting gentle rays of light onto the water, adding a sense of depth and ethereal beauty.

The overall mood conveyed is one of serenity and natural beauty, with the interplay of light and shadow on the clouds and water creating a captivating scene.

Shot an early morning after sunrise from one of the most beautiful hiking trails at Ras Abu Galum National Park.

Made from a digital photography from my portfolio, a digitally painted watercolor painting unveils the picturesque scene of an inner street within the fortified city of Carcassonne. The brushstrokes capture the essence of this historical location, where narrow cobblestone streets wind their way amidst ancient stone structures. The painting portrays a vibrant atmosphere teeming with life as tourists amble along the meandering lanes, enchanted by the allure of the medieval architecture that surrounds them.

The focal point of the artwork is the beautiful yellowish stone buildings, standing tall with their two-story structures, proudly displaying the marks of centuries gone by. The textured strokes of the brush bring life to the aged walls, highlighting their unique character and weathered charm. The warm hues of the stone reflect the sun's gentle caress, creating a harmonious interplay of light and shadow across the canvas.

The street itself appears alive, bustling with activity. The artist's attention to detail showcases the diversity of the passersby, their clothing and accessories hinting at various cultures and backgrounds. Curious tourists explore every nook and cranny, their eyes drawn to the intricate architectural details that adorn the buildings. Balconies adorned with potted plants overflow with vivid blooms, providing a splash of color against the ancient stone backdrop.

As the eye wanders deeper into the painting, the narrowness of the streets becomes apparent. The use of perspective creates an illusion of depth, guiding the viewer's gaze deeper into the heart of the city. Delicate shadows cast by the overhead sunlight dance along the street, adding a sense of movement and capturing the fleeting nature of the moment.

In this captivating watercolor, we are transported to a bygone era, where the fusion of history and everyday life creates a timeless charm. Invite us to stroll through the streets of Carcassonne, to admire the enduring beauty of its medieval architecture, and to become captivated by the unique atmosphere that emanates from every stone and passerby.

Old and broken pillions become a thing of interest for my camera. As i lean over a bridge to compose a shot, the once useful pier is little more than sticks in the mud.
