INDIVIDUALITY
Artist: Jessi McConnell (@jessthesnapper, @jessiikate)
Location: Clique Organic Salons, 417 King Street West
Medium: Photography
Year: 2019
In 2007, at the age of 16 years old, Jessi McConnell began a photographic journey with an affordable point-and-shoot camera. McConnell has continued to capture the visuals of everything around her. While her main focus is capturing sentimental moments for clients, her passion project is focused on landscape photography, and capturing the details and unique textures of nature.
My collection of photographs is a visual representation of how I view “the little things”. Despite seeming small or unimportant, it’s the little things that ultimately drive our day-to-day emotions. These images show the details of nature in an up close and personal form that may not be seen if not captured.
Beneath the same white face paint.......Five (Maiko) Geisha with different personality, individuality and life experiences......
I took this picture when I visited Gion, Japan while on Holiday.. It is not easy to meet One Geisha.. to see Five is very lucky indeed. This shows their front view and in another picture in my stream, shows the beauty of their neckline....
With this picture, I was lucky to have won a second prize in a local Open Exhibition Competition.. So I would like to share with you....
Makapu'u Point Lighthouse is located on the windward coast, in the southeast corner of Oahu Island in the Hawaiian archipelago. It has become a tourist attraction with a well kept trail of about 2.5 miles from the parking lot to the lighthouse and back. We spotted several humpback whales while we were there.
Quote Of The Day:
"True education makes for inequality; the inequality of individuality, the inequality of success, the glorious inequality of talent, of genius; for inequality, not mediocrity, individual superiority, not standardization, is the measure of the progress of the world." Felix E. Schelling (1858-1945)
with bud...
I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen!
Shimmering in silky tones, trembling with beauty and individuality, the bud looking up at big 'sister'...
For years I 'experimented' in the studio, to get that Flemish painter's light? Well, I was born in Flanders, it must be in my blood? LOL.
Lead and enjoy a good life, do and say things that enrich... and do not forget to tell the people close to you, how much you love them!
With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *)

On the streets of Seoul these days, 6 out of 10 women in their 20s wear white headphones on their heads. She wears white clothes and wears long hair.
It's like teaching at a private school, but they don't know each other.
They lost their individuality in following the trend, but they look pretty.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Glasgow is full of colourful characters - this guy certainly takes on the role to the letter. Enjoy!
Clothes only tell what a person likes; they express his or her own individuality, but not whether (s)he is good or bad.
He was smiling as he typed.
Should you recognize yourself on the photo, please read my comment here:
My Monday floral greeting today, exceptionally, doesn't include a single flower, but a mushroom (so it's a mushroom greeting).
"Where's the mushroom?" you might be asking. And that's exactly where we're at.
But first, the mushroom is in the foreground, in the center. Although it has absolutely nothing in common with leaves (it's not even a plant, strictly speaking), it's almost indistinguishable from them.
Have you ever experienced someone (perhaps even yourself) trying so hard not to stand out, to fit in (to avoid conflict), that they became invisible?
That gradually all individuality was suppressed until it was almost impossible for even that person to recognize themselves anymore.
Well, I'm coming clean now, because I was one of those people for most of my childhood and adolescence (though I had plenty of time and opportunity to bring things back into balance).
If any of you feel addressed by this, there's nothing to worry about if you're aware of it and feel completely comfortable in this situation.
If not, I invite you on a journey. A journey to yourself. Discover who you truly are and where your place is in this world. Whether you stand out or not is irrelevant. The most important thing is that you feel at home there.
Hause.

I'm not too familiar with Mercedes-Benz models and I'm only guessing that this is a 1960s W108 model based on a Wikipedia photo, but it looks to me like the kind of luxury car a wannabe dictator or gangster of the era would ride around in.
I do love old cars, they have so much character and individuality that modern rides mostly lack.
Enjoy this previously unpublished shot from 2019.

Aren't uniforms interesting? A uniform (especially a helmet)...
- communicates membership
- communicates other things
- removes individuality
- provides anonymity?
- affords protection
- offers uniformity
- shows organization...

It is an overstatement that classical Greek sculpture always showed an idealised human typography. This death mask (third century AD. Below the plaster mold cast from the dead man, above a silicone cast taken from the mold. Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki) demonstrates that there was also an interest in capturing the individuality of the portrayed person. The sculpture resulting from this would have the individual features of the dead man's face.

What is cracked lets the light through. And it is through wear that industrially produced objects acquire their character, their individuality, and become irreplaceable. This kind of reflection is nothing new. Just as exile — which one once naïvely thought to turn one’s back on — had already been written, imperfectly, in the awkward gestures of a twenty-year-old boy. We are primates. We live quite literally "in the wake of a mandrill", and we are biologically wired to believe in divinity. That is what cracked the Gnostic demigod-bashers, whether they called him Samael or Ialdabaoth; what turned Wolfgang Pauli into an alcoholic, genius notwithstanding. And yet we are forced — limping along, for better or worse, blindly, by sheer chance — to keep moving forward, echoing an older procession of cripples (back in more boastful times). This is what explains the joy of returning to one’s “ground,” of reconnecting with a seventh landscape one failed to cherish enough, of fantasizing about a return to the source, reunions, or even imagining graceful funeral rites. To love the crack or to attempt its repair? It hardly matters. To season the leftovers of meat and vegetables spilling out of the Römertopf, to carry through to the end an old theme barely sketched out: to speak of monkeys and civilization, to imply that every imitation is necessarily diabolical, that we know perfectly well how to recognize a parody of empire.
Never seeing New York — keeping its kitsch intact — staying in tow, sparing oneself the impact. Sometimes it is better not to raise one’s voice. Sometimes it is not necessary to have done one’s homework. Sometimes there is no need to feel guilty. That does not prevent apologizing for one’s shortcomings. Better late than never, despite a fragment already released during a thirty-fifth winter, and in the resurrection of a ursine sigh — technically magpie-patterned, symbolically bipolar.
ATTITUDE=Individuality and self-confidence as manifested by behavior or appearance.

A view of the Austin home and studio of Elisabet Ney (1833 – 1907), a German-American sculptor. Ney spent the first half of her life and career in Europe producing portraits of famous leaders such as Otto von Bismarck, Giuseppe Garibaldi, and King George V on Hanover.
At age 39, Ney immigrated to Texas with her husband. In the early 1880s, Ney was invited to Austin by Governor Oran M. Roberts. In 1892, she built a home that was as unique as her artistic style. This castle home, named Formosa, which means 'beautiful' in Portuguese, was a one-of-a-kind structure in the Hyde Park neighborhood north of Austin. It stood out amidst the stately Victorian homes and Craftsman bungalows that soon followed, a testament to Ney's individuality and creativity.
Ney's castle is built from rough local Texas limestone, contrasting with the European design. The balance between classical and rustic is everywhere here. The unmanicured native grasses and trees give the castle its natural setting, as she wished. Inside, refined marble statues sit in a studio roughly hewn from stone and wood.
Ney's works in Texas include marble sculptures of Sam Houston and Stephen Austin, which can now be seen in the Texas State Capitol and the National Statuary Hall Collection in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Today known as the Elisabet Ney Museum, the "castle" is a cornerstone of the Hyde Park Historic District, listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The district is roughly defined by West 40th Street to the south, West 45th Street to the north, Duval Street to the east, and Avenue A to the west. It includes Victorian architecture, Tudor Revival architecture, and bungalows.
It is much harder to deny the individuality of this face. Sculpture of an old man, 3rd century AD; Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.

The variety of the chimneys in the Grande rue of Besancon had impressed me very much as a sign of great individuality. Here I had a small selection presented in airy height above the apartments.
Art education can be dangerous. It often kills individuality and establishes a mold. Certainly you must know the fundamental tools and materials and how to use them, but you must do the discovering yourself :-)

To Prologue of the Story "The Doors"
Free from the suffocating conformity of her past world, she marveled at the liberated realm she had discovered. The societal norms that had once bound her like chains now dissolved into mere wisps of vapor, revealing a vibrant and eccentric world where individuality flourished without judgment. Questions that had haunted her previously now seemed trivial, like echoes from a distant dream.
In this new reality, she reveled in the absence of societal expectations and the freedom to explore her own desires and beliefs. The constant bombardment of opinions and judgments from the masses, which had once plagued her thoughts, vanished into oblivion. Instead, she found solace in the profound connection she forged with her own inner voice.
The constructs that had once defined her every move — the endless rules, the bizarre limitations, and the arbitrary boundaries —seemed like relics of an oppressive regime now a distant memory. She marveled at how people had blindly accepted these artificial constraints, allowing them to dictate their thoughts and actions.
The weight of others' opinions, which had once weighed heavily upon her shoulders, now lifted as though they had been carried away by the ethereal winds. The suffocating pressure to conform to an ill-defined and ever-changing social norm was gone, replaced by a sense of liberation and self-discovery.
Amidst the mesmerizing symphony of strings and cascading melodies, her senses soared to unimaginable heights. As she immersed herself in the graceful movements of the stranger’s body, a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues and ethereal impressions exploded before her eyes. The boundaries between the known and unknown blurred, giving way to an unrestricted exploration of a world where questions and limitations ceased to exist.
Within this newfound realm, the music consumed her, dissolving the trivial distractions that once cluttered her mind. The beauty and perfection of This Enigma, in its celestial dance, became the focal point of her being, eclipsing all preconceived notions and social norms. The age-old debate of human decency, plastic surgery, and societal expectations melted away, leaving only an unbridled appreciation for the perfection of form.
With each passing chord, the enchantment grew stronger. Time seemed to stand still as she reveled in the harmony of movement and sound, oblivious to the outside world. Questions of identity, purpose, and morality faded into insignificance, replaced by an overwhelming sense of tranquility and fulfillment.
In this realm of boundless beauty and peace, she discovered a freedom that transcended all earthly constraints. The body became a canvas upon which the universe painted its masterpiece, a testament to the infinite creativity and wonder of existence. And in the embrace of this celestial symphony, she found solace and liberation, a sanctuary where the superficiality and trivialities of the mundane world held no sway.

Today I'm trying to combine my Monday floral greeting with a photo from my last trip to the High Tatras in Poland.
We're back in the foothills of the mountains. But this time it's just after sunrise as I kneel in this beautiful flower meadow drenched in morning dew.
I tried (using focus stacking) to focus on the beautiful blossoms and the impressive mountains simultaneously, which is quite a difficult task. While the result isn't ideal, I'm happy with the compromise.
This balancing act is also the message I want to convey with this photo.
We often find it difficult to focus on one thing without losing sight of another, equally important thing.
This could be, for example, our demands on ourselves on the one hand and our own well-being on the other. Or our need for individuality versus our need for community.
Our lives are full of such "opposites," which are essentially siblings. Surely you can think of more, right?
One approach to solving this problem is to slow down and be willing to compromise.
And so this week, I invite you to take the time to look for the "needs siblings" in your life and check whether they are in the right balance.
And if not, what such a compromise might look like.

“The eighth wonder of the world
Remains a woman who
Understands the value of her time
Because, she understands
The value of her self-worth.
And when she understands
The value of both her time and self-worth,
She can never let anyone treat her
Less than that...
Because her truth is now
Based in her ability to transform
The world, by transforming
Her world, first.
And so, she lives...
Freely, uninhibitedly
In now’s possibility,
Knowing, that now is
All she needs – to breathe,
To be,
The best version of herself.
Today, right now.
Her secret
Weapon through her individuality,
Her gift to this world.
Her unedited - You.”

by the old trick of using several photographers to photograph the same object. This always result in a varied range of approaches and technical manifestations, each one expressing a different impulse or subconscious energy stimulating its realization. In other words, this means the photographer’s individuality or self-identity works in varying degrees according to the degree of emotional contact with the subject matter :-)

I found this spot after searching for quite awhile feeling kinda out of it (read the blog to hear more on that).
The flowers are just about in full swing at the Columbia Hills in Washington. I hear Rowena is starting, too.
Update on my E. Oregon project: I have reached $2,300! This is incredibly exciting, as I have now surpassed my goal. I still have many days left so I'll still try funding further, but what this means is that the project will happen now, no matter what!
