Independence Day of the United States, also referred to as Fourth of July or July Fourth in the U.S., is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress declaring that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and no longer part of the British Empire

More than peace and harmony,

I wish for you this Independence Day.

More than a glorious community reunion

With a famous celebrity leading the way.

More than the precious moments

With kinfolk who are loyal and true.

More than the colorful fireworks,

A display that is exciting and new.

I wish you jubilation unending

With much respect and genuine love.

I wish you an everlasting unification,

And guidance from the Supreme Maker above.

I wish you the same euphoria

Of every worldly Independence Day,

When rivals ceased hostilities

And a national flag marked the way.

For all those who cherish Freedom!

Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.

Fireworks displays typically occur in the evening, at such places as parks, harbors, off of boats, sporting venues, fairgrounds, public shorelines, or town squares.

Very honored to have won the contest! There were so many fantastic photos. I called this photo Independence because I was standing next to this little girl's father (Bhautik) as I took these photos of her, and he was talking about how she is such an independent soul and he and his wife have spent these last 4 years getting to know this little personality. it resonated with me b/c I'm also very independent and am an only child. I thought the photo perfectly captured the spirit of that conversation and her obvious "independence".

I don't usually gravitate to people/kids in my photos, but I learned an important lesson on this photo walk as she not only added an artistic dimension, but she also added emotion which is why I think this photo turned out so well! Good learning!!!

The great thing about July 4th is that it gives me an excuse to post some more bald eagle photos. Hope you enjoy them too!

Just wishing all my American Contacts/Flickr-ers a wonderful Independence Day! Happy 4th of July!

I thought I'd contribute a video of me playign the USA's Anthem. I'm not very familiar with the anthem so I apologize if there's any wrong notes/timing.

Although, it would have been nice if some of my American contacts would have wished me a happy Canada Day on the 1st! :P!

So what have you guys got planned?

Wishing each and every one of you a wonderful fun filled day with plenty of food, good company and a heart full of love. ♥

God Bless the U.S.A.

If tomorrow all the things were gone

I'd worked for all my life,

And I had to start again

with just my children and my wife,

I'd thank my lucky stars

to be living here today,

'Cause the flag still stands for freedom

and they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American

where at least I know I'm free,

And I won't forget the men who died

who gave that right to me,

And I gladly stand up next to you

and defend her still today,

'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land

God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota

to the hills of Tennessee,

Across the plains of Texas

from sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston

and New York to L.A.,

There's pride in every American heart

and it's time we stand and say:

I'm proud to be an American

where at least I know I'm free,

And I won't forget the men who died

who gave that right to me,

And I gladly stand up next to you

and defend her still today,

'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land

God Bless the U.S.A.

My first Independence Day with an Nikon d700. Quite a learning curve, but I'm going to love it.

St. Cloud, MN's fireworks display on the Mississippi River is seen from BNSF's St. Cloud yard, where NLR owns a portion of it, on the correct side for the display. I was unable to get the newer GP15's in a shot with the show unfortunately due to a few things; poles, flood lights, and parked within the yard rather than on the side of it.

While setting up for the fireworks on Sat...this happened :)

Mrs. Sam Houston House is a historic house on Farm to Market Road 390 in Independence, Texas. Sometimes known as the Root house, this Greek Revival house was built probably around 1855. Margaret Lea Houston, the widow of politician and Texas statesman Sam Houston, bought the house in 1864 from Major Eber Cave, a family friend. She lived in it during her final years until her death in 1867. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
