I took several image pair while I was out hiking. These two are from the same spot, one focused in close and the other focused out on the Archery Field area in the distance.

Friday, June 3 I hiked the Letchworth State Park trail 1 along the west side of the Genesee River gorge end-to-end with a loop back. It was a beautiful day for hiking - a few clouds and high about 75F. I took lots of photographs with the Olympus OM2 and Ilford HP5. Gaia GPS said 15.1 miles for the entire trip, which makes me think trail 1 is longer than the published 7 miles. It was a beautiful day.

I got to hike Stony Brook State Park one day in September. I followed the gorge trail up and the west rim back. It is a place I have hiked and photographed many times over the decades - my parents used to take us camping there as kids.

Time out of time.

I'm not sure what happened here. It feels almost like a double-exposure, but not enough to convince me. The photograph keeps pulling me back in, as if it wants to tell me something about the generations of kids and adults who have walked this path and reveled in the waterfalls. I hiked and camped in this park as a kid, we took our kids here when they were young, and now I am the grandfather walking the trails with my old cameras.

I walked down to the Saint Helena bridge site earlier this month. Other than old bridge abutments, the original town is long since covered by silt.

I overcompensated for the brightness and actually underexposed several of this set.

The path from the Abbey church to the retreat house dips down into the treeline on the way out to River Road. A branch path has several sets of benches. They are wonderful places for sitting in warmer weather.

My last afternoon at the Abbey was overcast. The OM-2 and I went for a walk.

We got down to Stony Brook State Park last month. The gorge trail was still closed off. I walked up(!) and along the east rim trail.

There are two sets of abandoned railroad bridge piers, the old one of concrete and the really old one of cut stone, which I admired from below.

I love this photograph, but I had to push it really hard in post processing. Thankfully, black and white film is exceedingly forgiving.

I put the Olympus OM-2 back in service with a test roll. I shot the entire roll in the auto setting to see how the onboard light meter handled various lighting conditions. My assessment so far that it does well in daylight and evenly lit rooms, but if the lighting is dim or otherwise tricky, it's time for me to pull the light meter out of my pocket.

Hogsback from the north.

There are two primary overlooks for the Hogsback on the west side of the gorge. My destination was the one on the far side just about in line with the end of the Hogsback. The trail follows the rim on around. The river is barely visible on the far side. At high water the entire flood place will be under water.

Milady dropped me off at the dam overlook then drove down to Hogsback to read a book.

The story of the music.

The @deviantArt WeeklyFotoChallenge is "The story of..." Mark Thomas said, "Instead of a subject you finish the sentence with a picture and description of it."

I thought of renaming this morning's post to "The story of the kitchen", but that didn't seem quite fair. None of the images waiting in my sta.sh seemed to fit, so I went back to scanned negatives for another look.

I skipped this photograph first time through (and the second and third). This time it caught my eye, though I wasn't quite sure why. As I was cleaning up the scan and thinking about the challenge, I decided the image was about the story of the music. The truest story of the music is not the story about the music but the story told by the music. And that is a mystery that unfolds only as one sits and listens and watches and lets the music flow around and through.

About three weeks ago in Durand Eastman Park on a beautiful day. I parked by the start of the yellow ski trail, followed it all the way around then down the west side of Durand Lake and over the ridge to the start of the Eastman Lake trail. I followed it along the east side of Eastman Lake then back along the west side to return to the car in the deepening dusk.

Then I was off the trail and back at Chuck's and Suzy's house, figuring out what to do next. Suzy took my out to one of the local parks.

(It appears that my Cinestill developer had had too many rolls of film developed with it. Both this and the previous roll were significantly under-developed. Cinestill one-step developer has its advantages, but I plan to go back to my Kodak D76.)
