Then I was off the trail and back at Chuck's and Suzy's house, figuring out what to do next. Suzy took my out to one of the local parks.

(It appears that my Cinestill developer had had too many rolls of film developed with it. Both this and the previous roll were significantly under-developed. Cinestill one-step developer has its advantages, but I plan to go back to my Kodak D76.)

My brother and family invited us over for backyard grilling. Per form, I went wandering with the camera.

(I grew up in this house. But I was in sixth grade when we move here whereas Ken was born a month later. When the folks were getting prepared for breaking up housekeeping, the six offspring all wanted to keep the house in the family. Ken was the want who really wanted to live here. Eventually we made that happen. In essence, one of us bought it from the six of us. Brother Chuck was the estate trustee. He and Ken talked with a Realtor we knew and trusted and said, "Make it happen at a fair price.")

Another Friday at Letchworth. I checked out some connecting trails I had not hiked before. It had rained previously and the high grasses were very wet. Everything from the bottom of my hiking shorts on down was soaked.

When I got back to the Saint Helena area I decided to hike the two river access trails. The south access is at a bend in the gorge where the river forms a wide pool with a stony beach. The whitewater rafters coming down from below the lower falls take out here. Occasionally canoeists and kayakers put in here and paddle to the Mount Morris Dam.

Flower Head Folks at Heroes Brewing a few weeks ago. It was Dominic's birthday. I took a series of photographs of him, which he apparently enjoyed.

This was a test roll. ASA 400 just isn't fast enough for indoor photography of moving subjects. The HP5+ film box had instructions for developing it at ASA 1600, so I decided to give it a try. I was pleased with the results. It is fussy about lighting, but when the lighting is right it works beautifully.

This is only lightly edited from what came off the scanner. I slid the low end of the curves to the right to make the blacks black, made a pass with an unsharp mask, and cleaned up the minimal dust spots.

We drove down to the Mount Morris Dam overlook at Letchworth a few weeks ago. Thanks to hurricane leftovers there was actually water visible behind the flood-control dam. Usually it is empty except for the main Genesee River channel. It was filled to the top back a couple decades ago when the hurricane remnants came in close. Completed about 1950, the dam has paid for itself many times over.

The turret is the entrance to the dam access well.

January 6 is the day of Epiphany, or the making known, primarily associated with the visit of the eastern sages to the infant Jesus in Bethlehem.

I got back to the Abbey after my walk in time to pray Vespers. I had my tripod with me, so between Vespers and Compline (night prayer) I took photographs of the courtyard lights..

The path between the bluff and the bay.

At the end of Schnackel Road a path turns to meander between the base of the bluff and the houses along the bay, which are otherwise accessible only by water.

A couple weeks ago I took the Holga 120PC for a walk down Point Pleasant road to the Irondequoit Bay. I turned right to follow Schnackel Road down around Ides Cove.

I tracked down the trailhead for a Letchworth State Park trail I had never hike, mostly because I couldn't figure out just where the trailhead was. It wasn't immediately obvious from the road. The trail itself was fairly nondescript - the remains of an old two-track - but it was pretty down by the water. I had to walk across a hundred yards or so of dried up flood plain to get to the river edge.

I scrambled down to the river edge by a deep washout cut through the flood plain by the runoff from the spring snowmelt. It was a surreal landscape.
