As a young lad every butterfly I came across I called a Red Admiral. How ignorant I was. In fact I still am, but at least I have some degree of a clue these days.
This one was photted as is often the case whilst it was feeding on a buddleia bush. This potion was taken at the local Yorkshire Wildlife Reserve at Potteric Carr.
no other creature has ever denied it ;-)

Story: After I reached the beach just before sun up, I headed straight to one side where I thought I will find them. Heck, I was stupid, ignorant, desperate, unethical and what not, that I dragged a heavy wooden log with me over the sand for few hundred meters, and tried to set up a stage for them. Clearly I didn't know what I was thinking.
Well, the sun came up at 5:30 am, and I saw nothing. I started talking to myself as I always do in the field, and already gave up. Because I could not see anything as far as I can see. On my way back, as I was just halfway to my car, I suddenly heard the sound. The unmistakable call of give me the food first. So I looked back and saw the tail end of the action where the fresh kill was exchanged between the parent and one of the juvenile.
I rushed back, first ran to reach the beach and locate them on a down slope, then crouch-walked for tens of meters, and finally, as I was very clearly visible to them, I took the seal-walking position. I am sure it would have been fun to watch me at that time. I closed the distance as far as I could before making them wary of me.
They were hungry, being the first meal of the day and fearless, as they were juveniles. The next 30 mins flew by like just a moment in time. I got to witness the dominance of the females and the patient waiting of the male. Most part of the unfortunate dove was gone in minutes. Only the scraps and one half eaten leg piece was left for the male.
After the females were done, they flew away and I was left alone with the male. I was given the opportunity to take the parting photograph, which I will post later. But I came back with another unforgivable memory that would be hard to relive again. It was worth 4 hours of driving (return trip) at the end.
That's how rich I want to be ;-)

Begin, ephebe, by perceiving the idea
Of this invention, this invented world,
The inconceivable idea of the sun.
You must become an ignorant man again
And see the sun again with an ignorant eye
And see it clearly in the idea of it.
Never suppose an inventing mind as source
Of this idea nor for that mind compose
A voluminous master folded in his fire.
How clean the sun when seen in its idea,
Washed in the remotest cleanliness of a heaven
That has expelled us and our images …

An unexpected bonus to an ignorant man making his way to Eastern Quebec last March was the discovery of the Matapedia River Valley. When I came here last year, my mind was on the MLWs and mountainous ocean views provided by the SFG, and maybe shooting VIA rail on the local CN tracks, but I hadn't put much thought into the latter.
Little did I know, the CN line had a daily freight that ran through it in daylight. During that trip I chased that train blind into the river valley and ended up figuring out the Matapedia River Valley is one of the most gorgeous and fast paced train chases you can do in the Canadian East. Towering hillsides, tracks in clear view, and a gentle river alongside make for one heck of a time.
I originally shot it in winter and wanted to come back for better light on VIAs early morning valley run come summertime. Thankfully I was able to return. This time it seemed like I would have my luck run out and not see a CN freight run through, but just as I was considering an early quit and driving home I got word that BCOL 4646 was leading CN 562 east through the valley. So, I waited on an overpass midway through the valley short of chase-killing road construction and sat without phone reception for an hour and a half waiting on 6 lights to round the bend ahead of me. I was rewarded with a Blue Dash 9 in afternoon summer sun and made the few remaining positive sun angles work to my advantage.
Here, CN 562 is seen slowly approaching the small town of Matapedia at the mouth of the Valley with the same name, a place where I have now spent many hours (including some time sleeping in my car to save money) and have grown to love. The sun would be horrific past this shot so I decided to turn for home with a smile on my face.
Half-time takes twelve minutes. This not coincidence ;-)

Being ignorant is not a defect, but rather a tenacity for not wanting for more options. The diversity that exists in the world is the great kindness that others are lost.

Professional organizations mine Flickr for content, and love to play the "we'd like to use your awesome work in epic project x, but don't have much budget" game. They offer you "exposure" and "getting your name out there", when the fact is, they have every intention of leveraging your work for profit. MAKE THEM PAY. It's amazing how often they will agree to pay up when you give them your fee, but they will certainly try to play the game first to see how ignorant or desperate you are for attention. Trading your hard work for mere exposure only undermines others and makes you despised in the eyes of photographers who work hard to earn a living.
I repeat: MAKE THEM PAY. Research your rights. And get the use terms in writing.
my husband purchased this for the illustrations but it is truly an excellent commentary on our society - the author would probably be appalled at today's society which has become so much more selfish and ignorant than ever
that should decide its claim to admiration and respect :-)

People come from around the country to ride the ATV trails in my area. I don't like that much because they're noisy and people are ignorant and destroy the landscape. But I am thankful for the trails that are maintained. One of my favorite things to do is find a new trail that our truck can manage and see where it leads.

So here's the picture of my solo wall this weekend with a special mention to my niew niece Mayli ... I am now the godfather to one of my best friends daughter B-)
Inspired by the chaos of the kids I tried to go wilder in my background. I'm far from the first to be working on this at the moment but I'm gonna try and see how I can incorporate that kind of chaotic ignorant spraying with my more structured letter pieces.
At the moment I still havn't found a good connection between the background and the forground. I have elements that play kindof inbetween these two yet it is still as if I have a background then a piece placed above.
That's a goal that I'm gonna try and strive for ... mixing the background and the piece into one undivideable element.
Tried something new in my Z, not sure about having placed a brown shadow though ... mixes in too much with the dark green. I initialy had other ideas but I left some of the cans at home ...
Well, first I took great care in getting the shot, then I took a dozen of so shots from different angles, and then I named it in my head, thinking it was a stem of an Aloe. Then, I researched it, and here's what I found:
"Hesperaloe parviflora, also known as red yucca, hummingbird yucca, redflower false yucca and samandoque, is a plant that is native to Chihuahuan desert of west Texas east and south into central and south Texas and northeastern Mexico around Coahuila." Found in deserts of California.
The description also states, "It also is a spineless alternative to Agave and Yucca horticultural species." Does that mean that unlike Agave and Yucca, it doesn't stand up to bullies? By the way, at the end of our cul de sac, is a 70 year old Yucca that produces long downward bending spikes of white flowers. More important, Oak Titmice have made their nest in the trunk for six of the last seven years. Last year, they lost out to a paid of Chestnut-backed Chickadees.
I'm getting luckier, not smarter, but I'll never tell which when I post another wildflower. Oh, maybe I will. Hey, being lucky and smart is much better than lucky and ignorant ... especially in that order.
and leaves gaps for the viewer to fill in :-)
