The Dragon gets on surprisingly well with Cleo which is mainly due to the fact that he respects her superiority but still has the self-confidence you need if you deal with her Royal Highness. He seeks contact but knows that you have to treat Cleo with caution. And he is quite tough. If she slaps him for whatever reason he may think "what a bitch" but it doesn't ruin his day. :)

I don’t get close to this open beak! He is a rescue and only handled by my husband. He’s not aggressive, just a brat without manners that doesn't know his strength.

If you didn't know where this chickadee was photographed, you'd probably pass it off as a black-capped chickadee. However, I was in the Chiricahua Mountains here, one of only two localized places in the United States where you can see a Mexican chickadee. Even in the Chiricahua Mountains, Mexican chickadees are found only at high elevations and this bird was catching bugs to eat at about 8500 feet above sea level. Notice how the black bib beneath its bill extends much further onto its breast in comparison to a black-capped chickadee. The other obvious difference, besides its call, are the gray feathers along its flanks, as black-capped chickadees sport buff-colored flank feathers.

Now, I have not traveled to many places but this place was the most ethereal of all the views I'd ever seen. It was like Heaven had met earth and joined as one. Kitch-iti-kipi translates to "Big Cold Spring" The Ojibwe often refer to it as, "Mirror of Heaven". How fitting. :)
The Legend of Kitch-iti-kipi
Kitch-iti-kipi was supposedly a young chieftain whose girlfriend got the best of him. He told her he loved her far above the other dark-haired maidens dancing near his birchbark wigwam. "Prove it," she insisted. As a test of his devotion, she declared that he must set sail in his canoe on the pool deep in the conifer swamp. He was to catch her from his canoe as she leaped from an overhanging bough. His canoe tipped over as he was looking for her, while she was back at her village laughing with the other indian maidens about his silly quest.
According to legend the Spring was named Kitch-iti-kipi in memory of the young chieftain who went to his death in the icy waters in an attempt to satisfy the vain caprice of his ladylove.
Note: There will be more pictures to come of this place. How could I resist posting more when this place is so peaceful and dreamy.

If only I could give it a cuddle. I used to have Lop eared bunny pets so I have a rabbit hutch in the garden, it could stay in there? yes ;)) Apparently I won't be so keen when it's been breeding and eating all my flowers :(
Stella has finally lightened up and decided that the Christmas Frogs are pretty good company after all.
If you visit Pawnee National Grassland at any point throughout the summer, there's a fine chance you'll see one of these cryptically-colored goatsuckers sleeping atop a post or a tree branch. They're rather tame, probably because they rely on their apparent camouflage to protect them... unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work well when they're out in the open.

I thought the light for picture-taking was just about gone for the day, but some rays from low on the horizon broke through the tree tops and spotlighted Camille.
I like the randomness of the oak leaf hooked on Camille's claw.

If you look really closely, you can barely make out the Hermit Crab hiding in this shell. We were boating near New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and stopped on an island at low tide. Shells were everywhere, and I don't think I found more than one or two that did not have a crab in them.
If you walk down the Royal Mile and you'll see open doorways near the castle end of the street. In Edinburgh terms, these are known as "closes"; basically, very old, narrow, steep streets once replete with open sewers. Now home to bars, restaurants, and museums, they offer a true taste of historic Edinburgh. Advocate's Close is a particularly interesting one; positioned up high, it affords views of the Scott Monument and a good portion of Edinburgh. Halfway down, The Devil's Advocate is a moodily lit bar that serves up excellent cocktails in a historic setting.
Like most of the closes, Advocate's Close, which is thought to date back to the 1500s, is spooky and fascinating, and it's like stepping back in time. Most of these skinny streets have been widened or built over; the closes that remain are a precious fragment of local history. There are many more closes...as World's End Close, Fleshmarket Close etc
If you have never been to Dyker Heights during the holiday season and you live in New York City or in New Jersey, you will be amazed at the spectacular Christmas decorations that the mainly residential neighborhood in the southwest corner of Brooklyn do every year. There are actually paid tours that take tourist to see the light in Dyker Heights every year!
