State Senator Joan V. Hartley (D-Waterbury) sings along with students and volunteers at a 'Help Bag Hunger' Event in ShopRite of Waterbury. Senator Hartley was on hand to raise awareness of hunger in Connecticut and the need for food donations during National Hunger Action Month; students performed an original song and were selling CDs of the song to raise money for local food banks. Our local chamber of commerce put on an event where people acting as mannequins portray characters from books. It was called "frozen in time" and the people were set up in store fronts, behind the window glass.

This made for some difficult photography with glare and reflections. These shots were taken with my 1957 Kodak Retina IIIc loaded with Ilford FP4 film and self developed in a 1:14 dilution of Ilfosol3 for 7.5min at 68F

As part of the exhibition BEING , Storefront presented DISRUPT: Croquembouches, an installation-banquet on the connections and connotations between Food and Architecture. The event follow a day-long installation by Savinien Carcostea, which included an 9-foot tall cone of Croquembouches, a traditional French dessert, that was on display at Storefront's gallery throughout the day and offered to visitors in the evening.

7,000 Croquembouches were available for consumption.

This isn't perfect, a bit blurry. The plan this week was to take a photo of my evening meal but I may have left it a bit late...

The idea is there in any case.

"The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

When "Mockingjay" was released in the early spring, I heard about this series. I was curious, but thought it was geared toward a much younger audience. A friend loaned it to me last weekend, and when I finally picked it up, I couldn't put it back down again! Yes, it's geared towards 7th grade and up, but I found it an amazing read. It really makes you question what you would be able to do if you were put in Katniss's shoes. This was one of my favorite quotes from the story in chapter 16- "In our world, I rank music somewhere between hair ribbons and rainbows in terms of usefulness." Another from chapter 27 is "I stare in the mirror and try to remember who I am and who I am not."

Sadly, this photo deserves an explanation: One day, as I was having a cup of coffee, this man approached and presented me that little notebook. It read: "Excuse me my friend, may I have a cigarette please?" I gave him two in exchange for a photograph, to which he refused...

I am almost done with this book. I really like it so far. I hope it ends well. I love Katniss.
